Incest is, despite its taboo nature in most societies, actually a pretty popular convention in both romantic fiction and works of a more erotic bent, in everything from period or fantasy pieces to series taking place in places like modern day Japan. Still, the most common configuration in these fictions are the pairing of siblings. Perhaps this is because of the usual lack of age difference and power dynamic that exists in child/adult relative pairings, though this is not always the case. Because of this, a sexual or romantic relationship between siblings can almost seem, well, romantic in the right light. Of course, more often than not, there's a dark side under the veneer of forbidden love.

There had even been a time, when she was young, that she thought she would grow up to marry Robb. Like the old Dragon lord had done in their House. But after it had been explained to her by their mother that was not going to happen, that House Stark did not mix blood like that, she had grown to accept it. Even as it had broken her little heart at the time.

Perhaps it was simply that the Prince, though he'd never say it, rubbed him the wrong way. There was something about Joffrey he didn't quite like, something in his smiles that felt oily and unlikable. But that wasn't all of it. And perhaps there was a part of him that knew, that knew the real reason, and wasn't willing to admit it. Because admitting it would almost be as bad as feeling it, and he couldn't bare it.
