[ Mercy's 'office' in the main warehouse is just particleboard and curtains, more depressing than even the most pathetic high school nurse's station, but there's a warmer lamp than the humming fluorescents that line the roof of the vast and 2am-empty space beyond those arbitrary demarcations. She has Gideon up on the examination table, lets her bleed out there a moment while she washes her hands and snaps on latex gloves.

Her oval face is pale and set rigidly, movements almost robotic as she opens a triangle bandage and brings it over to replace whatever Gideon has been using to staunch the gunshot wound. It's been couple of months since they saw each other, that terrible night where Gideon's father discovered she existed, discovered the ways in which Mercymorn had betrayed the organization, betrayed him.

Most of what he did to her has healed. John knows better than to throw away a doctor of Mercy's calibre — but he hasn't really forgiven her. She has restrictions, now, and nobody speaks to her, and she's expected to work long shifts through the night doing triage for the cannon fodder of John Gaius's cult qua crime family.

Mouth pinched, eyes tired, wisps of peach-pink hair falling into her face, she doesn't bother asking how Gideon got shot. If she's come to Mercy, then it's because she doesn't want anyone to know. ]

Arm up. And wipe your mouth.

[ Pressing a different cloth into her hand for that last thing, before drawing back the bandage to examine the blossomed exit wound with a tight frown. It's a sucking, gorgeous thing, and if it had been angled even a little differently she would be dealing with a corpse. ]

supernatural (it might not be his typical wheelhouse per se, but he's obvs v. werewolf and vampire adjacent, has dealt with zombies, and sorcerers/magic/etc in general — so easy to canon mash, or come up with something wholesale);
spy/espionage and agency shit (ex-CIA, baby. semi-related, there was once this weird-ass mini that was all about mind control, tulpas, and also the possibility of aliens, so... idk, x-files adjacent agency stuff could also be A Thing);
merc/military/idk some kind of bounty hunter scenario — ig the former lends itself to a variety of scenarios as marc would take any job if it paid enough, and in terms of the latter, marc has been a wanted (war) criminal in canon, so yk, There Are Options;
dystopias (the AU future where ultron took over the world and he was trying to figure out survival + resistance with A Pal lives rent free in my head as wasted potential for something deeper)

[I LOVE a good AU. Favorite scenarios are daemon, wings, Hunger Games, merman, "normal" apocalypse, and zombie apocalypse! Others include soulmates, monsters (he would make a fantastic werewolf!), or that kind of AU where they're in the psych ward together and all the fantastic elements of the person's canon are in their head.

One final idea is a high school AU but where he's attending at age like 16 after being in the psychiatric facility for a long time, so basically he's Cady at the start of Mean Girls because he has no idea how high school social hierarchy is supposed to work.]

Only no for me are ordinary AUs like coffee shop or florist.]

Edwin Payne - Dead Boy Detectives - OTA (M/M for romantic/smut but anything goes for platonic)

[So many different types of AU to be had with this boy, just starting with all the variations on 'alive' and/or 'alive and modern', but even more-or-less in-canon there's alterations to be made, Edwin as an incubus is a favorite, but I do love a full world-build a la Star Wars or Hunger Games or more generic like Cyberpunk.]
