into each life some rain must fall.

caught in the rain
it started out quietly, and then, quite suddenly, you're caught in a storm. time to find cover. nothing much to do but to wait it out.
scenarios listed below for those who want 'em.
i. WHERE;
001 PLAYGROUND - well, you can try to hide under the slide or maybe in the jungle gym... at least you're some place fun?
002 PARK - always happens, caught outside trying to take advantage of the weather... and it ends up pulling a fast one on you.
003 STORE FRONT - better hope they have an awning you can take advantage of.
004 THE BEACH - not exactly the best place to be during a rainstorm, however it is possible to get caught in a sudden storm.
005 WILD CARD - anyway you want it.
ii. HOW;
001 TREE - not the best cover, but it'll have to do, stay close to the roots and you won't get too wet.
002 UMBRELLA - most conventional... kinda boring. But it works.
003 NEWSPAPER - not permanent, but it'll have to do. good luck.
004 BAG - well... y'gotta do what you gotta do.
005 NONE - you know what. you're a rebel. you don't need cover. screw convention.
006 WILD CARD - that's the way you need it.
iii. WHY;
001 REJECTED - welp. rejection sucks. and no one will see you crying in the rain.
002 WAITING - for the bus? for someone else? for some revelation? what are you waiting for.
003 MELANCHOLY - sometimes the best place to feel a bit down is out in the rain.
004 HAPPINESS - is everything going your way? are you singing a refrain while walking down the lane? just singin. singin' in the rain.
005 ANGER - WELL YOU KNOW WHAT. SCREW YOU TOO RAIN.
006 WILD CARD - anyway you want it.

But she pushed herself into walking, even as her chest felt more and more constricted the closer she got to Spock. It felt far to hard to breathe. She was planning on just walking past Spock and into her building. There wasn't any reason for them to talk. They were over, done.
And even if Jamie told her the truth of why she had pushed her to leave the Enterprise... For once, Kirk didn't want to know what the reaction would be to that.

The Vulcan turned heel, and kept a continuous gaze firmly directed on the Captain of the Enterprise. She had forgone all of her considerable pride and waited for this woman. She would be heard.
"I request a moment of your time."
no subject
But Kirk forced herself to turn and face Spock, using the anger she had at herself to force words to come out, sharp, tight, "Why? We have nothing more to discuss, no reason to."
no subject
Spock's face was still and she did not flinch.
"After this moment, my company shall not be forced upon you." So give her this.
no subject
"Fine. What is it?"
no subject
"I have- found a new position. On the Exeter." It was information that Kirk could have easily found from another source.
Spock stepped forward once.
no subject
But, like so many things in her life, she had fucked it up.
It was starting to get to her in the worst way, her words carrying a tremor as her breathing became more labored, "I know."
The effort in her breathing was audible in her next statement, "I'm glad for you." She was blinking rapidly, not just to push back the tears she could feel gathering but to try and keep her eyes focused. She better not fucking faint. She better not fucking faint. Kirks don't fucking faint.
no subject
"We depart in the morning." Her new mission was not one of deep space exploration. So, in that sense, Kirk had accomplished the thing she set out to do. The Exeter was a more diplomatically and closely kept vessel. On many occasions, it would be possible for Spock to visit New Vulcan and keep track of the progress made.
Spock is able to track the other woman's physical reactions and that forces her another step closer, just in case Kirks do faint.
no subject
Kirk takes a step back as she nods, "Okay." She feels that first hot tear leak out and she's cursing under her breath as she reaches up to wipe at it. And then the other eye betrays her and she tries her damnedest to recover, looking at the ground as she clears her throat and forces out.
"I'm sure you'll do great, Spock. You always do."
no subject
"Indeed. I will continue to prosper, as it is my dearest wish that you do so as well."
no subject
no subject
"I will always be your friend, Jamie Kirk."
As always she had been.
no subject
It just... wouldn't stop.
no subject
"Come, Captain. Let us return you to your residence." Gently, Spock gathered the other woman up by her shoulders and guided her towards the apartment.
no subject
"Don't touch me. Please. I'll die if you touch me."
Oh god. She was pretty far gone if she's pulling lines from books. She covered her face in her hands. Her voice was muffled but no less devastated, "I'm sorry, Spock. I'm so sorry."
no subject
"Apologies are unnecessary."
There was no logical course of action that she could see to assisting to ease this moment. Yet, she did not simply leave. Not unless it was requested.
"I am certain that you acted with the best of intentions."
no subject
No, no, no. Why was she opening her big mouth? Why couldn't she just leave it alone?
no subject
"I do not understand." Why would Kirk have dismissed her? If she had not wanted Spock gone from the ship? There is no logic, there is no emotional reasoning to substantiate that decision.
no subject
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said anything."
Whether she was talking about what happened weeks ago or right now, even she wasn't sure. It was probably both.
no subject
"I require a full explanation."
Implying that she may decide not to leave this spot until she had one.
no subject
She shakes her head as she makes her way for the front entrance once again, "You're not getting one. Just forget what I said. I was being stupid."
no subject
"Very well, if you continue to insist on being childishly stubborn, I shall deduce your reasoning by logical extrapolation. You will not speak of your reasons, which leads me to the conclusion that you are embarrassed of them."
Why should Kirk be embarrassed regarding a decision? A moral flaw would account for such a thing. "Either you had developed feelings for another person, and acted on them... but no, I would have discovered such a thing easily. You had yet to act on them. Have you now?"
It was McCoy. It must surely be McCoy. Spock's possessiveness began to reawaken, though the only sign of that was her hand shifting into a fist.
no subject
The words and the forming fist, however, distracted her for a moment.
She looked at the Vulcan, brow furrowed, "Are you... are you jealous?" Sure, Jamie had had a thing for Bones from the moment she met him but she had convinced herself long ago it was one-sided. And then met Spock. She had secretly prided herself on being completely faithful to the Vulcan. Even after she had left.
no subject
Spock hadn't left. She had been dismissed. It was a fine distinction of intent that had lead to this eventual confrontation. Her job performance was unparalleled, yet still the Captain had seen fit to send her away. Surely it was not too much to expect an honest reasoning?
"Have you taken a new lover?"
no subject
"I haven't wanted to."
