into each life some rain must fall.

caught in the rain
it started out quietly, and then, quite suddenly, you're caught in a storm. time to find cover. nothing much to do but to wait it out.
scenarios listed below for those who want 'em.
i. WHERE;
001 PLAYGROUND - well, you can try to hide under the slide or maybe in the jungle gym... at least you're some place fun?
002 PARK - always happens, caught outside trying to take advantage of the weather... and it ends up pulling a fast one on you.
003 STORE FRONT - better hope they have an awning you can take advantage of.
004 THE BEACH - not exactly the best place to be during a rainstorm, however it is possible to get caught in a sudden storm.
005 WILD CARD - anyway you want it.
ii. HOW;
001 TREE - not the best cover, but it'll have to do, stay close to the roots and you won't get too wet.
002 UMBRELLA - most conventional... kinda boring. But it works.
003 NEWSPAPER - not permanent, but it'll have to do. good luck.
004 BAG - well... y'gotta do what you gotta do.
005 NONE - you know what. you're a rebel. you don't need cover. screw convention.
006 WILD CARD - that's the way you need it.
iii. WHY;
001 REJECTED - welp. rejection sucks. and no one will see you crying in the rain.
002 WAITING - for the bus? for someone else? for some revelation? what are you waiting for.
003 MELANCHOLY - sometimes the best place to feel a bit down is out in the rain.
004 HAPPINESS - is everything going your way? are you singing a refrain while walking down the lane? just singin. singin' in the rain.
005 ANGER - WELL YOU KNOW WHAT. SCREW YOU TOO RAIN.
006 WILD CARD - anyway you want it.
>> POST with your character
>> TAG others, use rng if you need to, or just make up your own scenario if you want!
>> HAVE FUN.

it'd be nice if he had found his answer - his reason - before this, but all's well that ends well. or something like that. he doesn't say anything at first, wondering if rin even notices him, but then again, with him looking over like that, how can he not? ]
Regionals isn't too far away. [ which is one step closer to your dream, right, rin? that's something he can quietly say into the raining air, righttttt? ]
no subject
... Why, are you practicing right now, or something?
[ a dumb joke on how wet they both are. he doesn't feel like laughing at his own crack, though. ]
no subject
either way... haru looks over at him, water dripping down off his hair in classic haru-style. you know the way... ]
The street isn't a good place to swim. [ he sounds awfully serious about this, like it wasn't even meant as a joke originally and that if there was enough water in a place like an alley or sidewalk, he may consider...... large puddles, anyone? ]
no subject
No, of course it isn't.
[ he sees you looking at that puddle at the side of the road... ]
At least put up your hood.
[ the drops of water streaming down from them in dramatic shampoo commercial style is really distracting. ]
no subject
haru contempltes it, he really does, fingertips going to the edges of his hood but he stops. ]
It helps me think. [ the water, he means. which is why he usually does his best puzzling and contemplating in the tub... or showers at the gym... or well, you know, out on a bench waiting for the bus in the rain (in the rain) ]
no subject
Think about what?
no subject
he's going to take awhile to answer that one, letting his hands lace loosely in his lap as he stares down at the puddle forming near his feet. if only he could just sink into that... ]
Why I swim. [ it's almost a bit... uncertain because he's not sure he should be telling you this or even saying this to anyone else, but he looks relatively stoic when saying it, so maybe it's all fine. ]
no subject
it takes him a few moments to reply to that as well. why he swims? Rin wants to know too, actually. if it's not for winning or improving... to him, it's pointless. ]
That's not the kind of thing I thought you'd have to wonder about...
no subject
haru isn't sure that was meant to be a compliment or not - especially coming from rin, so maybe it's best to go with 'no'. regardless, he shrugs and looks off to the distance. I thought so too ]
This is out of your way, isn't it? [ this bus stop, this area, he means. ]
no subject
I went home for the weekend.
[ and his mom baked a cake to celebrate his advancing to regionals. it tasted good, but it kind of... didn't make him feel as good as he thought it should. ]
... I'm going back to school now.
no subject
haru seems to accept that answer and he makes a small noise and a nod. ]
Tell Gou thanks. [ for signing them up for the medley, of course, but he figures one or both of the siblings will figure it out. but he figures rin texts his sister enough and that the chances of her talking to her brother before haru are very high, even if they attend the same school. ]
no subject
she is clearly the more devious of the two siblings. ]
You have a phone, don't you? Tell her yourself.
[ ... she'd like that better.
and he doesn't want to explain to her why he's carrying a message from Haru, of all people. ]
no subject
[ and it's back at his place, anyway!!! phones. who actually carries those around?
haru tosses rin a look, barely able to with how hard the rain is starting to fall. ]
no subject
Then tell her in person. You guys do go to the same school.
[ as the rain gets even worse, he's mentally waving his textbooks goodbye. it was a good run. maybe the blowdrier can save them, though?
the water's pooling in the bottom of his plastic grocery bag, too. ]
no subject
he doesn't comment on that and makes a move to stand, hands shuffling into his pockets as he looks back over to rin. ]
The bus isn't coming.
no subject
but going home also means that he'll have to walk in the same direction as Haru for a while. he sighs and starts walking too, but since he's a few paces behind, it just looks like he's creepily following Haru or something. ]
no subject
What happens when you get to the Olympics? [ he's asking those real, hard questions of you since you're creepily stalking him, ok?
but really, he's curious. if he can puzzle you out maybe he can reason himself out, too, since apparently swimming again with you didn't set him free. ]
no subject
[ there's a pause. his stupid groceries keep on getting heavier because more and more water keeps falling in. ]
Competitive swimming is a career, after all.
no subject
What happens after you win?
no subject
I'll keep improving, and I'll keep competing. It's not like winning once is the be-all-end-all...
no subject
...you're going the wrong road.
no subject
I can keep getting better. It's not like I'm going to stop swimming after winning a single medal, that would be pointless!
