See that man behind us? That's not his wife. That's Jill, from work, and he's sleeping with her. He looks nervous because he's hoping to God his wife doesn't walk in and see that her suspicions are correct. He's had a hell of a time hiding it from her. [ she inclines her head to the left. ] And her? She dropped out of college. Her parents think she's still up at Northwestern, but she wanted to try her chance at backpacking across the US and being a free spirit. It isn't working out as well as she'd hope.
[ she rises up, palms flat on the counter, elbows straight. ] And someone in here is damn pissed that they haven't gotten their onion rings yet. It's been ten minutes. Not sure who... [ she turns, calling over her shoulder: ] Holly, onion rings!
[ a blonde, older woman emerges from the back muttering shit, shit, shit, i forgot! and breezes past them with a plate of onion rings, which she sets on one of the tables in the far right corner. sookie grins. ]
See? Told you. Onion rings. [ she returns to her original position. ] I hear a lot of things, damn near most everything, but I can't hear you.

And the onion rings are convincing as well. Now there's an interesting power. He looks back at her. ]
You read minds. [ He raises an eyebrow. ] But not mine.

[ her lips curl up into a small, almost mischievous smile. ] But that's not all I can do.

Oh?
[ So what else can she do? ]

Not here. I'd be even more of a spectator sport if I did it here, and I don't need to give any of these people more of a reason to ogle me like some free walking freak show.

[ He leaves the premises, and a few moments later walks around the back of the bar, finding a secluded alley. They won't be seen here. Whatever Sookie has in store for him, he'll be the only witness. ]
