[ There was no way that Charles would let Edwin rot in hell a second time. He hadn't deserved to be there in the first place, and he sure as hell didn't deserve it a second time, either. And Charles came for him because he loves him - wholly and entirely. Even without the romantic overtones it's a love that most people would spend their whole lives trying to find.

And so, it's precious. It's the most important thing to Charles - to keep Edwin's friendship, even if this doesn't work out between them. Especially so, since if it does, then there's no reason they wouldn't remain friends. He just knows that no matter what, he can't not have Edwin in his life.

Everything else feels negotiable.

And right now, with the cavity in his chest feeling like it's going to burst, feeling like it's thumping loudly, how can he have another thought? ]

Well. Let's not take that long. But, yeah, no rush.

[Edwin has felt the opposite of what Charles is currently going through. He never truly felt so much as an ounce of desire until the Cat King stumbled into his life and created chaos for everyone involved. He doesn't love him. Desire can masquerade as intense (and confusing) emotions for two lonely creatures, but it's nothing at all like his feelings for Charles.

It's taken them thirty-odd years just to get this far. He'd rather not wait around another couple of decades either, but for now, this...it's very nice. He'll never tire of the small thrill he feels as their hands gently squeeze every so often.]

One day at a time, then.

[He pauses, drawing his brows together at the mention of Crystal]

Even if we do not verbally tell her, she is a medium. She might find out through other means.

[ While that's true, and he thinks that Edwin has a point - Crystal's a medium, and she's smart too. She'll notice that something's up. Still, he would rather keep them a bit of a secret for now, just because this change is so new and fledgling, and he wants a little bit of privacy with Edwin about it.

As long as we don't act odd or out of character around each other, I highly doubt she'll notice straight away.

[They're still on the roof of the building, glancing down occasionally at the dark, street-lamp-lit atmosphere. It's late enough at night now that everything around them has gone quiet, save for the crickets chirping away. It feels like the world around them has temporarily stopped to allow this tender moment. He's grateful for it.

In the morning, he knows they'll separate and go about their usual business. However, for now, he can savor this.]

[ Charles looks at Edwin like he always does, with a bright smile, and all the pride in the world. ]

Yeah, I know.

[ He doesn't think he'd entertain this if there was a chance they could lose this friendship. Even if he had all the love for Edwin in the world, the risk would be too great.

But he feels safe, that they'll both prioritize that over anything else. ]
