It can be hard enough being ejected from your own home - imagine being plucked away from your home world! This could be because of your own doing, you were too evil or too ambitious to stay, or even due to an accident. Those temporal shifts can be a little much. Whether by design or by chaos, however, you end up in the same place...or, rather, a different place. Theoretically, this world could be very much like your own, with only a few minor changes, like a purple sky instead of a blue one or lion-demons instead of tiger-vampires. On the other hand, it could be completely different, anywhere from more technologically advanced or less so or even filled to the brim with bizarre creatures. They still use cars? What are those infernal beeping devices? Why does no one have feathers or gills? Needless to say, this could be overwhelming if you are possibly powerless and definitely alone.
But you're not alone. Someone, a native of this world, has ended up tangled into this whole affair with you, whether they want it or not. You can't turn that down. They're your only ally, your only anchor in this brand new world. Maybe, just maybe, they can show you a thing or two to help you back up on your feet. Or, best case scenario, back to your home! When you're out of the frying pan and into the fire, though, nothing is cut and dry. Everything about this world may not be so horrible - it may be fun, even - and this person you've ended up with, oh, they could be worse. In fact, you may be beginning to feel at home with them.
Remember. This is not your real home. You want to go back, don't you?
And what about the other party? Of course, you may be less than thrilled that you now are playing tour guide to what seems like a crazy person. Perhaps this was out of the kindness of your heart or you may be forced to play babysitter, but it all leads to you keeping an eye out on them. They have to be lying about all this! Sure, they may talk strange, unconsciously insult you, and act like the simplest things confuse them; that has to be an act!
...still, act or not, you're starting to see that there's more to them than their goofy ways and there's more to your feelings toward them than you thought.
how to play
- Comment with your character and preferences. Don't leave your comment blank! Mention something about your character's world in the comment for the canon blind (ie, "ancient Greece" or "dystopia with kids killing kids - the Japanese version"). It doesn't have to be long, it can even be a few words! If you have any other ideas, include them.
- Reply to others. Use the RNG - or not. Whichever you prefer.
prompts
- arrival → You've just arrived...and someone has seen it. What's your impression? Good? Bad? Get the hell away from them? It may depend on why you're here in the first place.
- not so different → Huh, this could be your own home in the universe, except for a few subtle changes. But those changes stand out.
- different time → The place you've ended up is either much more advanced or much more primitive than you're used to.
- different world → They breathe oxygen? Where is their night vision?
- magical moment → See the gif. Essentially, it's that moment of interest before everything goes absolutely wrong.
- disbelief → So, they says they're an ancient Roman or a magic sky god. Did they hit their head?
- argument → No, no, no. You're not going anywhere until we get you some clothes and some help.
- forced to take them in → You have no other choice but to take this person in. You were either charged with the task or feel guilty.
- offer of shelter → You actually want to take them in out of the kindness of your heart.
- depowered → Were you a powerhouse before? Well, now you're an average joe. That'll teach you.
- misunderstanding → Here, we don't walk around in loin cloths, draw swords, or barely bathe or eat toothpaste. We also don't ride dogs, either.
- friendly fun → Being around here isn't always bad. You get to see new sights, taste new foods, and make new friends. Your milage may vary on the last one.
- introduced traditions → Time for the newcomer to show their host something from the old country, so to speak, or the reverse.
- romantic moment → Dancing or sitting under the stars or your own preference. Go wild and be creative!
- showing you care → They have helped you out a lot since you've arrived. Perhaps you can return the favor by lending a hand or solving a problem?
- the romantic shift → The typical turn of events where the two of you begin to see each other in a different light.
- not my type → Your usual type is more glamorous or more...possessing of gills, but the bond between you two endears them to you.
- jealousy → The newcomer misunderstands the dynamic that's already set in place.
- someone back home → You find yourself growing closer to your new friend, but you're already taken back home.
- confession → You both admit it's more than mere interdimensional alliances.
- smut → You've reached that point in the relationship, or you're about to leave, or you're just curious about the people in this world (remember that scene in Howard the Duck where - nevermind, actually).
- epic fight → Two worlds collide and big bads from the past are coming to threaten your temporary home and new love.
- reformed → You've learned your lesson and turned over a new leaf. As much as you can, anyway. You're more open, less cocky, whatever the case may be.
- sacrifice → Unfortunately, you won't get to go home. You selflessly put yourself in harm's way for your lover.
- going home → Time for a heartfelt goodbye. Will you see each other again or is this it?
- new home → You've learned and gained so much, you've decided to stay in this word.

She swears up a storm once she feels the ache in her foot, but all of it fades away as a bright white light engulfs her.
Shit. All I dead?
It's the only the thought she has before everything around her vanishes. Something tingly goes through her body. Maybe it's her atoms slightly coming apart through time and space, but eventually she's solid and whole again.
She's not in her lab. She's outside some big Expo. She's blinking out the brightness in her eyes to help her adjust. It's nighttime. There's people milling about, but their clothes are wrong.
The cars are wrong too.
It all looks like some kind of sitcom from TVLand that she used to watch as a kid. A man comes up to her, hand on her arm to steady her. ]
You okay, dollface?
[ She shakes off her dizziness and nods. She looks up and finds a kinda cute guy grinning at her. His eyes are raking her over, particularly her chest and her bare legs in her overall shorts and sneakers. She's got a long sleeved t-shirt underneath that's got bleach stains on it. It's her casual wear. It's not like she'd been trying to go anywhere fancy. Just trying to get her work done. ]
No, yeah, I'm fine.
[ She waves him off as slips out of his touch. His grin never falters. ]
You look more than fine. Got a real set of gams on ya. Never seen a dame dressed like you. [ His voice turns hush as he steps towards her. His hand starts to caress along her curves. ] You one of them good time girls?
[ She's going to blame it on her disorientation, but suddenly, her arm rears back until she's decking in the guy in the face. ]

It seems to him that he'll be giving his best friend another lecture like the one in the alley on their way here, once he finds him. When he finds him.
His attention ends up pulled by the sounds near him of what sounds like a guy trying to talk to a real looker who wasn't interested. After years of talking to women, Bucky knows a few things and having to take care of a few idiots outside of dancehalls for one of his sisters, he's got some experience there too. The punch she lands is impressive, making his eyebrows jump up towards his uniform issued hat and a muttering of "wow" to himself, before the guy begins to invade the woman's space again.
That's when he steps in, like he does when Steve's getting too in over his head and starts to push the guy away from her. He's smooth and confident about it, his hold strong as he makes a point to bodily block the woman with himself, even if it's his back facing her. ]
Alright, pal. I don't think she's interested and you need to back off, unless you're looking to pick on someone your own size.
no subject
He's taller than the first. He practically hides her behind his broad shoulders. He's a soldier from the looks of his uniform. A soldier from World War II. That just makes her head hurts as much as her hand. He manages to get the guy to back off. Apparently picking on someone his own size doesn't appeal, and Darcy isn't worth the hassle.
He mutters an unkind name to her, but honestly, she's heard worst. ]
Thanks. I don't think he likes it when his ladies fight back.
[ She hasn't gotten a good look at her savior since his back is to her, but when he does, her head does a wild rollercoaster loop. ]

[ It's an assessment and Bucky's glad the guy wasn't in uniform and he doesn't look familiar, so it's not someone who's backside he's kicked ( be it literal or figuratively ) between getting involved in the fights Steve gets in, his own ( defending his sisters counts as his own ) or from boxing. The Expo gets a lot of attention and with some of the displays he's managed to notice before getting involved, there are plenty of reasons people would come from all over to see it.
Her reaction's not one that he thinks has to do with himself, instead his eyes are roving over her not to be like that guy from before, but in case she'd been manhandled worse. The way she's holding her hand tells him she's gotta be in pain from it, so he gestures toward it, to bring attention there. It might be his last night and he can't stop looking at her because of what a knockout she is, but knows when the moment's not right. ]
You alright, doll? Other than bruising your fist with his face, he didn't do anything, did he?
possibly nebulous present where avengers still live in the tower with Bucky c. 2012 type shit
But the Barnes that stands before her is a blast from the past. His expression is open and smiling with crinkles at the corner of his eyes. The way he looks and how he's dressed tells her this might be before he ships out. The beginning of the war. She blinks and tries to orient herself. She offers him her hand without thinking. It throbs and there's a gross smear of blood from the dude's noise. ]
I'm okay. Could be worse. No one ever says how much it hurts to punch someone which is kinda messed up.
fuck yeaaah we doing it
The roughness of his hands comes years of menial work that did well enough to give him enough money to help keep his sisters fed, pitching some of it towards Steve so he was set as well. Now it's from training for the war, for making sure that he's ready enough ( and the men fighting beside him ) for what's coming next. But despite that roughness, he's inspecting her hand in a way that he knows what he's looking for, having seen it plenty of times thanks to Steve's need to fight bullies and when he's got to take care of his own.
With the hand not holding hers, he goes searching for something that he doesn't end up producing because he doesn't have anything he can wipe the blood off with to at least put her in the right direction. They'll have to find something else. ]
Why else you think boxers wear gloves when they get in the ring? [ There's a rich layer of mirth in his tone, even if she's gotta point that people don't bring up how much it can hurt to punch a person - be it in the face or otherwise. ] There's gotta be something around here we can wipe that hand of yours and put something on it.
buuuut also somehow the wakandans are around maybe idk
He's looking for something to clean the blood off her knuckles. She's split some along with the blood from the dude's nose. It's gross, but he doesn't pull away. It takes her a beat to realize that he's joking and teasing her. Her bright red lips quirk into a little grin. ]
I can just use wipe it off on my denim. It's no big deal. I bought it at Goodwill anyway.
[ There's some good finds there! ]
blah blah butterfly effect happened and events shifted/alliances happened sooner
[ Goodwill's not the odd part of the comment, it's the way she says it's not a big deal because while the war's got things picking up after the last decade ( even if it means they have to ration things here to send them over there ), it doesn't mean they're not getting as many wears out of something as possible. He's no good at sewing something up, but that's what he's got sisters for. That and Stevie's aware of a little of it, thanks to his Ma.
Bucky's got them moving a little out of the way, away from any of the cross of people so they're not keeping anyone else from seeing any of the inventions that were being exhibited at the Expo, especially as some have begun to clamor a bit together away from the Synthetic Man on display as a few women at Howard Stark's exhibit begin to start getting the attention of the crowd.
Being the bolder, charismatic man that he is before heading off to war, he doesn't hesitate to stop one of those heading past them to grab a handkerchief off one of them and thanking them for it. His eye line follows only for a moment towards the growing crowd - Howard Stark's not there yet, not boasting about his latest invention - before turning his attention back to the woman before him. It's quick as he goes to take care of her bloodied knuckles and to wrap the handkerchief around her hand, securing it in place. ]
You from around here?
no subject
He's being so sweet and thoughtful by tending to her knuckles. She follows his lead as she marvels how easily he finesses a handkerchief out of someone. Oh, yeah, this is the era where carrying that is common. She wonders why he doesn't have one. Or maybe only ladies did? She's not sure. Her mind is ping-ponging all these random questions as she processes this entire situation. ]
I'm from Jersey. [ Which isn't a lie. Just not the Jersey of now. ] Hope you don't hold it against me.
no subject
It escapes him that she's trying to process things, going through different questions quietly in her head because his focus is mainly on her hand. When that's taken care of, his focus is now on taking her in, his gaze briefly focusing in on her mouth and the shade of red on her lips before settling in to look directly at her a moment later. The Bucky Barnes of this time has more of a reputation than the one she'll go on to be aware of later - he doesn't even know who that guy is, who he'll come to be - but he's not gonna do anything that'll lead to her punching him as well. ]
You got out of Jersey, right? You're here, so that means you gotta know better than most, the one's who decided to stick around. [ A beat, as he considers it for a moment even if Jersey's not so far that she wasn't planning on heading back there after. ] Picked a hell of a night to get free of Jersey, with the Expo going on.
