Swords and Sorcery

In a time long before history or in a realm far, far in the future, exists a fantasy realm of might and magic. Many fantasy classics have existed in a swords and sorcery world—Conan the Barbarian, Red Sonja, and much of Dungeons and Dragons can be ascribed to swords and sorcery. The genre features a pre (or post) technological world where magic is real, and the wilderness is expansive and wild, with vast unknown territories at the edges of the map. Cults and city-states seize power where they can, and warlords conquer and unite tribes until corruption destroys their dynasty.

Prompts:
1) The Corrupt Monarch - The ruler of this city state or region is power-hungry and corrupt, so it’s up to a brave band of heroes to build a rebellion and overturn them. Or, if you prefer a sneaky route, perhaps a nice power coup or assassination?
2) The Cult - A dark cult has been gaining popularity in your vicinity. Cults like this traditionally favor reptiles, fire, and bloody sacrifices. If you’re not careful, you might be volunteered to be one of those sacrifices. Or maybe your girlfriend/boyfriend/family member has been kidnapped to be one of those sacrifices, and now you’re going to have to get them back.
3) Traveling Mercenary vs Monster of the Week - In this pulp fiction classic, a town of relatively nice innocent people is being threatened by a horrifying monster of some variety, and it’s up to you to slay the monster and save the town so you can get back to the important business of drinking in the local tavern.
4) The Prophecy - You can’t have a proper 80s fantasy classic without someone getting prophesied to do something. At least one of you has been prophesied for greatness. But do you embrace your destiny or are you a reluctant hero? Your fate has been written in the stars.
5) Full Lovecraft - Swords and sorcery combines so well with eldritch horrors from beyond the void. Lovecraft and Robert E. Howard were pals, after all. So you’ve still got your swords and your cults, but the dark gods that they worship are real, and madness unfolds in their wake.
6) Choose Your Own Adventure - Have fun, honestly. Swords and sorcery is a massive genre that’s been popular in more or less its current form since the 1930s and popular for centuries if we’re counting Camelot.

[His mother was a fire genasi, his father was an orc warlord, and here he is, just trying to make his way in the world. He sort of fell into being a ranger, it's generally solitary work, but he doesn't mind it.

He's pale enough to be a sort of seasick green at all times, though in the low light of a tavern, mostly covered up, it's less easy to tell, and his shock of red hair is carefully, skillfully braided back away from his face both to keep it out of his way and to keep his horns hidden. He's definitely half something, but there's a lot of half-somethings around, one more isn't going to gain that much notice.

[Anywhere there's ~~boywhores~~ male courtesans he'll fit right in. He might even be a member of the local Companion's Guild working a long-term contract, or some kind of wandering practitioner. He's also a former soldier, so secret bodyguard is also an option.]

[Just your usual wandering bard, earning himself a few coins or a room for the night, he's good at what he does and that's even without tapping into what his mother gave him by dint of being an actual for-real Siren of the Deeps.

His father was a charming sailor who managed to get out of that situation intact, and Henry's got more than a little of that to him, too.]

[She's a Thief, and a good one, difficult to say how someone with one clearly tiefling (or demonic if we're going generic and not name-brand) parent ended up barely topping out at five foot even, not counting the pouf of curls, but she did.

She might be on a job, looking for a job, or looking for a caravan to join for the next leg of her trip, she might just be having a night off, there's lots of possibilities.]

[Leifr is a pesuedo-viking and Bloodrager. It's a class that combines the rage of Barbarians with the casting of a sorccerer. He's of the infernal bloodline.]
