Despite the airy and cheerful atmosphere of the party Helios was a bundle of nerves. He was holding the Academy's annual welcome back to school dance and celebration and these always put him on edge. It wasn't so much the amount of people here as who the people were. Famous and powerful families went to this school and they all held Helios is high professional regard.

So he will be off wall flowering it up at the food table trying to not look too embarrassed at his overly professional attire. He's already got enough compliments that have made him self conscious so he's taking a break for the night. But not dancing or having a good time would look bad and, gods, he's terrible at parties some times.

It's annoying being required to attend a fancy dress ball because the Knight-Commander has inexplicably decided that she is done with antagonizing the nobles of Kirkwall for once and wants to extend an olive branch of sorts. Of course, he's the olive branch. She's too busy and doesn't want to send the wrong message by attending, herself. So he's there in light dress plate with a flowing red cloak embroidered with the Sword of Mercy and feeling both fraud and fool.

He's not noble born, not a Marcher at all. He's a Fereldan upstart according to at least four "overheard" conversations tonight alone, spoken loudly for his benefit and hushed as soon as he's close enough for false smiles and affected manners. Were it not for Meredith's explicit instructions that he's not to antagonize these fools, he'd be glowering enough to have them cowering back against the wall in his wake the way they frequently do in the streets when he's about Templar business.

He looks twice before he recognizes Hawke. He has never seen her out of armor, and she's the last face he ever expected to run into in this vipers' den. It's almost pathetic how relieved he feels to have the excuse to speak to someone he doesn't want to backhand on sight. He approaches with his untouched wine glass in hand and nods his head to her. "I'm hesitant to ask what has you here tonight," he said.

[The police ball likely wouldn't be glamorous. It's a charity event; thirty-five at the door, dinner at seven, a cash bar, and a raffle. The better half of the Morgan duo saw "ball" and jumped at the chance to attend. Rita is practically buzzing with energy the night it falls on; well more so than usual. She's cheerfully brushing off Astor's complaints, triple checking with the sitter to make sure she was prepared for them to be out late, and keeping Lily Anne from touching her new dress all at once. When Rita is satisfied all will be well in the household without her for one evening, it's off to ball in a navy blue cocktail dress and matching gym shoes. Isn't this wonderful? A date night with all his co-workers must surely be Dexter's idea of a good time. Well, it's what Rita thinks in any case.]

[Being a shapeshifter has its benefits. Among those benefits are being able to attend those important festive parties and such without drawing as much attention as would, say, walking in as a giant rabbit.

But Ev has promised she'd come to see Merida this time, along with the rest of the visiting Pooka warriors, despite her insistence on not 'liking' these sort of things-- and, of course, despite the fact she's doing it for her own reasons.

A bit of fun won't hurt, either, so she isn't at all inclined to be on her best behaviour.
