Acts of nature, vicious monsters, merciless enemies, and treacherous worlds. These are circumstances which put your skills and your wit to the ultimate test: the struggle to survive. Maybe you're fit enough to make it on your own, or maybe you're in over your head. Either way, can you afford to help a friend or stranger in need? That's a decision you'll have to make in the moment.

1. wilderness
Whether you're stranded, adventuring, or simply camping, the wild has been known to turn on those who would appreciate her splendor in an instant. Wild animals, inclement weather, hazardous territory, and food that fights back are just some of the things you'll need to contend with to survive.

2. natural disaster
Earthquakes, floods, avalanches, and more. These forces of nature are hard to predict, and even harder to control. You may need more than just your own wit and ingenuity to make it through this.

3. post-apoc
The world has met with some disaster - be it war, a climate event, an invasion - and for most, all the comforts of modern life are a thing of the distant past. How have the stragglers survived so far?

4. alien planet
You've landed on a strange and unknown world, and you have no idea what dangers could lurk ahead. The very air could be poison, and on some worlds, even the plants have teeth!

5. zombies
Whatever you do, don't get bitten. No one can afford to spare your life when the virus takes hold.

6. robot uprising
Humanity has been pushed to the very brink of existence on their own world, as AIs rise up to take their place as the rightful stewards of the planet. Do you even stand a chance against intelligence and physical ability far superior to a mere fleshy being?

7. monsters
Take care and stay on your guard, for this territory is crawling with foul beasts who will come for you at any sign of... fear, sound, movement, blood... or what have you!

8. battle royale
In this nightmare, your enemies are the very people who are trapped here with you. Do you team up to survive, or do you take no prisoners?

9. enemy territory
This is your most dangerous mission yet: you're heading right into the enemy's lair.

[LOVE this kind of meme! Up for anything but my favs are post-apocalyptic, zombies, and battle royale. Honestly, he's a pretty good person to have around in a survival situation. Having a lack of empathy and a lot of skills that lend themselves well to survival situations can be an advantage sometimes.]

[ Things could have gone better when dealing with the exceptionally large flying serpent. But they had been sure they could knock it out of the sky. Verso casually mentioned that it had eaten him a few times before the battle.

Perhaps, he had been too casual about the ferocity of the Nevron.

In any case, their Disaster Expedition ended up scattered. The serpent taking hold of the main party and flinging them off Esquie's back toward the southmost reaches of the ocean. Esquie had, of course, immediately flown after them (perhaps) under Verso's command - as Lune and himself ended up flung the opposite direction.

Thankfully, Lune could catch herself before crashing into the water and Verso was, well, immortal. It broke a few bones but nothing that didn't mend itself within minutes. And so, they end up stranded in the wilderness with just themselves and no supplies. Fun.

At least, they had a fire thanks to his companion. Verso sat in his undergarments as he waited for his clothes to dry. He had his arm propped up against his knee and rested his mouth against the inside of his palm, staring at the flames.

He lifts his head up enough to say: ]

You know, if we cut me in half, we could technically have a party of three... maybe safer that way?

[ A casual joke to ease the mood. ]

Hey. At least it didn't eat us, right?

[ Yep. This is just one of those days, isn't it? Lune had been a little skeptical about this undertaking, but not enough to protest seriously when the idea was initially floated around. Sciel had, of course, been all about the challenge. Lune throws another piece of wood into their camp fire to feed the flames before sitting back on the grass. Night is starting to fall, and they have no supplies beyond what's packed in their pictos, and the clothes on their back — except most of Verso's are currently hanging on random braches in hopes they'll dry. A fact Lune is kind of painfully aware of.

She rubs her bare arm lightly with her other, the golden lines of chroma etched into her skin glinting faintly in the firelight. She wasn't harmed in the crash, nor dunked in the water like he was — perks of being able to float and fly some distances — but that doesn't mean she isn't feeling the effects of the rough couple of hours or so they've had. ]

Right. Go team.

[ It's lightly sarcastic, but more weary than anything else. She does manage to huff a noise that's somewhere between half-laugh, half-scoff at the morbid idea of halving Verso to create a party of three. ]

Yeah, maybe save that one as a back-up plan. [ A hint of a smile follows, though, and her eyes track the darkening skies for a beat. ] Any idea if Esquie might be able to find us sometime soon? We need to regroup with the others, but it's pointless to leave this general area if we'll end up passing by each other.

Woo. [ He pops his chin back down on his hand. ] Back-up plan, it is. [ With his free hand, he firmly wagged his index finger to indicate his dedication and seriousness to the idea -- which honestly was very little, if he was being real. ]

He will, but it also depends on how hurt the others are. [ The puffball wouldn't want them to strain themselves trying to crawl up on him. ] I assume there were some damages and they're probably trying to decide how to move forward...

[ He can believe the Curator will be doing what he can to keep everyone safe, too. Trying to be the voice of reason without a means to be fully understood. A frown danced along his lips before he let out another sigh. ]

Anyway, the best way to be found is ... to cry.

[ Verso turns his gaze on Lune, lifting his eyebrows up. ]

It has to be a certain kind of crying, but he'll come if he hears it. [ So, that's one option. ] Then, we'd be back at trying to find the others, but we'll at least have him.

[ Another little wag of his finger. ] Or we can wait it out.

To... cry?

[ Her expression reads absolute bafflement, before she shakes it off after a moment and settles back on just being resigned. Why is she even surprised? It's Esquie they're talking about. ]

Then I guess we're spending the night here. It seems mostly safe a spot, at least. [ Pause. ] If you don't believe in jinxes.

[ Since she may have just in fact jinxed them. No need to invite misfortune, Gustave's voice remarks in the back of her mind, and she quickly focuses on something else. ]

Unless you feel like squeezing out a few tears. [ A small smirk twists at her lips. It sure isn't going to be her, after all. ]

I'll knock on wood as soon as you do.

[ Verso chimes back about believing in jinxes. Rubbing his hands up his arms, he feels like he would be able to seem a little more anything if he were not having this sort of talk in his underwear, but whatever. It's fine. ]

Me? Cry? [ He catches what she's doing and plays along. Resting his hands on his chest, he looks surprised at the idea. ] I'm afraid I'm much too manly for something like that, Lune. Too manly, too capable, too indestructible.

[ Letting out a loud, pained sigh, he laments: ] What are we to do with me?

[ She rolls her eyes a little when he mentions knocking on wood, letting the subject pass by otherwise. Her expression shifts more and more toward wry amusement the further he gets in his theatrics, huffing a slight laugh once he's done. Drawing her knees up, she leans her elbows against them, palms resting on her biceps. ]

What, indeed. Are you saying it's unmanly to show... vulnerability?

Vulnerability, no. Tears, yes.

[ As he replies, he flicks his index finger toward her to punctuate each sentence. His mouth widens into an even bigger smile -- but the smile fades. He drops his head and rubs his shoulders, allowing a dark cloud to settle over his head. ]

Lune. [ Verso calls to her softly. ] The night isn't overly cold, but it is chilly. [ A beat. ] Could you sit closer to me?

[ Lune shakes her head slightly and lifts her palms for a moment without moving her arms, conveying without words she's letting that subject go. When he next speaks her name, it's with the sort of earnestness that makes her pull her eyes from their surroundings and pay attention. His request makes sense; he's immortal, not insensate. The air does have a slight bite to it, if you're forced to endure it in your underwear. After a beat, she nods, tossing another small branch into the fire from the stock pile next to it before getting up on her feet.

The circles the fire and comes to take a seat next to him, much closer than she normally would in effort to share her body heat, her bare arm pressing into his. ]

We should have probably tried to figure out a way to hang your clothes closer to the fire so they'd dry faster.

Probably.

[ Since it seems like she won't, or perhaps he's being impatient, he rests his head against hers. Flexing his fingers, he does feel a little warmer with her near him. His eyes roll as he thinks he probably shouldn't word it quite like that, though.

Scratching the side of his face, he rubs his beard as he lets out another exaggerated sigh. ]

I have to tell you... I'm incredibly disappointed.... [ He presses his lips together before opening them; they make a soft wet sound. Not all that pleasing to the ears, sorry. ] ... of all the elements that's been learned... I can't believe you still don't know how to harness wind.

[ Lune stiffens slightly at first, not having expected more contact, but she relaxes into it soon enough. At least as long as it takes for him to open with that, and even though it's one of his quips, her spine straightens a little as if maybe she's about to unleash one of those very elements on him. ]

Are you now? [ The syllables stretch out slightly, dry and sarcastic. ] Bold of you to criticize, sitting there in your underwear.

[Literally what Arid was built for, although nowadays she only helps people if she chooses to. Info and preferences in journal; not interested in 8, but all other options are on the table!]
