[Making herself busy, Heather washes her dishes as she stares atthe ones still on the drying rack. The dishes they used merely a few hours ago when the Fisks visited. The ones she washed on her own.

Telling herself that she needs to look for something in her nightstand, she's well aware that Matt must have stepped out of the shower as she steps in the bedroom.]

Take it you had a busy night?

[Matt had offered to stay and help clean up after Fisk left. The reaction to his offer had been, to his mind, less than enthusiastic, so he'd left without doing so as that seemed to him to be what Heather wanted. He wasn't such an asshole he didn't pull his weight even when upset.

A towel wrapped around his waist, Matt goes to the closet to start putting on a fresh suit.]

Yeah. Lot of new cases. I just came by to change, gotta get back to the office. Good luck with your caseload.

[From her perspective, Matt was being thoughtless, selfish, downright rude during dinner. The offering to help around, to pretend that everything was working out smoothly the second their guest left? It was almost insulting.]

You are already running back out?

[It shouldn't be a shock. Lawyers have the worst hours. But she wonders if he is simply avoiding her now.]

[He'd certainly never intended to give the impression all was well after dinner, and he didn't think the conversation surrounding the offer to help had implied that, either. They had, after all, been arguing after Fisk left. It had been in Matt's mind absolutely nothing like sweeping the night under the rug, just not leaving her with the mess to clean up. Until it seemed she just wanted to be rid of him in his mind, refusing to even entertain that he might have a point during the meal. To his mind, she was being willfully obstinate and condescending.]

Yeah. Like I said, there's a hefty caseload at the office right now.

Hmmmm.

[Matt wasn't mistaken. For a brief moment, she wished he was gone. Was almost relieved when he announced he had to run, letting herself be embraced by the illusion that her own home felt like it used to be. Matt was putting excuses, she was sure that they both were aware of it. But as Heather slipped under the covers of that wide and empty bed, she couldn't help but wonder what she would find in the morning.

For once, she was glad to be mistaken. She was glad this theory about Matt being self-destructive was proven wrong as he didn't show up with any visibly bruises. Not unless he was hiding them under that towel.

That didn't help but ease the feeling that this was still a mistake.]

And you can't take five minutes to have some coffee? Did you even eat something?

[Matt gave a small shake of his head as his fingers felt along the row of suits, a much shorter row than it had once been since the explosion ruined his closet. He then pulled one out and laid it on the bed before pulling on the pants.]

I haven't eaten yet, no. Can't say I've been hungry.

[He wasn't the best at compartmentalizing, and last night's fight had left him without an appetite. The breakfast he'd cooked this morning had been for Kate and Clint. Zipping up his pants, he then pulled out an undershirt from her dresser to put on.]

Besides, I wasn't sure you'd want me to stick around for coffee.

[Maybe he hadn't been sure he wanted to stick around for it, either.]

[The fact that she doesn't argue with that last point sure does speak for itself. Heather knows that she should know better, know when to say when. The thing with Fisk is only an excuse. It aches like a recent burn, but what truly bothers her is Matt's need to reach for the hot pan in the first place.

It's his unrelieable behavior what really gets to her.

Did he really spend the night working?]

You shouldn't leave without having something to eat. [She says firmly, almost as if speaking to a child.] Specially if you had a long night and then a longer day ahead.
