Great. They have really good coffee too. It's a good combo. I always wonder if trends actually moved slower, or if there was just less - urgent global interconnection that lets us see everything in minute detail. I'm sorry the rain made your day less comfortable. Being able to see the stars at night is one of the few things I miss about Vermont.
I'm guessing you go very regularly there from the sound of it little bit of both? people didn't care as much out in the middle of nowhere but a lot tend to care much more now
I drive out of the city sometimes to see there are some decent parks around for that
I'm more of a bodega breakfast regular, but this bakery is my stop of choice when I'm in the mood for something different to the bagel and coffee combo. The middle of nowhere thing is a good point. We definitely had our own trends in rural Vermont but the real hot topic was always gossip.
Yeah? That sounds like a nice way to unwind. Do you have a favorite park?
hard to beat a bagel haha honestly, I usually prefer a savory breakfast anyway with the exception of pancakes but yeah seems like things are just more boring now outside the city so gossip is what people thrive on
( or modern conveniences have reduced the amount of work needed so that there's more time to gossip. )
don't have a favorite necessarily if I'm driving out, I'm usually in a mood anyway so I'll drive until I feel like stopping and start looking for signs for parks or rest areas
Savory breakfasts usually feel more filling. Pastry breakfasts are more of a treat. With the exception of pancakes. I'll have to make some for you one day. It'll set the gold standard of pancakes.
That makes sense. What do you think it is that's appealing in those moments? The quiet, or just the feel of the big sky?
Oh, it's going to be a showdown of mom's recipes then. My mom made pancakes for the diner she and my dad ran, but these are the ones she'd make for special occasions for me. There is something weirdly comforting about that. Like that Carl Sagan quote. The "mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam" one.
then I'll have to try them yeah stuff you had when you were a kid will always have that kind of feeling to it, I think so please don't be offended if I still end up preferring my ma's
don't think I've heard that one before but yeah something like that

wow somehow better than my ma's pancake recipe? sure we'll see haha
the quiet and also being able to remember that whatever I'm feeling is small and doesn't matter that much when it comes to the big picture

I'd settle for best pancakes not made by her.
It's a good quote. You can read it here if you're interested.
[She sends a link next.]
The whole book is a good read. It's about scientific discovery and how it alters our understanding of ourselves as a species.
