The Police Procedural Meme

THE POLICE PROCEDURAL MEME
Whether in movies, TV, or literature, we hold the cops in a lot more esteem in fiction than we do in reality. Now it's your turn to play cops and robbers! Or cops and cops. Or cops and other people. Something like that.
The process is pretty simple:
1.) Post either your character and canon in the title bar, or your chosen scenario if you want to try and attract people via the setup rather than the character. If it's complicated, feel free to post your scenario in the comment.
2.) You can either create your own scenario, roll to generate one, or mix and match. Note that this is a meme that works well with more than one person involved, so if you want to drag in friends, feel free.
Choose from three sections:
1.) Cop and Cop: The interactions between you and your coworkers.
2.) Cop and Criminal: "Good" guys versus "bad" guys. Up to you who's who, though.
3.) Cop and Public: Dealing with everybody else.
Then roll from the following tables:
COP AND COP
1.) Patrol: You're driving around. Or walking around. Either way, you're keeping an eye out for crime on your beat. Maybe it's just little things, like whizzing on the walls. Or big things, like armed robberies. Either way, it's just you and your partner.
2.) Surveillance: Ah, the exciting life of sitting around, hoping your suspect does something other than read a book and go to bed early for the night. How do you guys manage your boredom?
3.) Door-to-door: Lowly patrolmen have it tough. They're the ones who have to do all the footwork to try to get information from neighbors who may or may not have seen the crime, be HELPFUL, or both. Still, it's got to be done.
4.) Interrogation: You've got a guy. You don't know if he's THE guy or just connected to the guy. Either way, who gets to be the good cop?
5.) Investigation: Look at the clues and see where they point. Are you getting anywhere, or just spinning your wheels? Just remember, whether it's a serial murder or a robbery, you're always working against the clock.
6.) The Privileges of Rank: One of you is higher in rank than the other. You've got things you need the other one to do. Try not to let it go to your head.
7.) The Complaints: You done messed up. Or someone accused you of messing up. Or maybe they're just making SURE you didn't mess up. Either way, Internal Affairs (or Professional Standards, or what the hell ever) is on your case, who just happens to be the other character. Lousy backstabbing "cops."
COP AND CRIMINAL:
1.) Caught in the Act: You've just caught the other character doing something they ought not to. Time to drag them down to the station. Hope they're not TOO resistant. Or armed.
2.) Caught AROUND the Act: Okay, maybe they're not necessarily the person who committed the crime, but they sure as hell are connected to things somehow, probably very closely. Be careful how you get information from them.
3.) The Raid: Freeze! This is the police! This is where all the action happens. Time to catch the bad guys -- especially the other character -- once and for all.
4.) Hostage Negotiation: Oh boy, an innocent's involved! Better handle this with kid gloves, or you're going to have a hell of a time explaining how you let an innocent life get lost on your watch.
5.) Hostile Suspect: You brought the other character in for questioning. See if you can try to fool them into confessing part of their deed before they call for a lawyer. (Note: If they do call for a lawyer, feel free to bring in another player or just NPC it.)
6.) It's Complicated: The main culprit (i.e. the other character) is a mob boss. Or a respected member of government. Or a higher up in the very police force you work in. How are you gonna handle it?
7.) The Dance: You know the person did it. The other person knows you think they did it. The only problem is, you don't have any concrete evidence, so you can't really drag them in. YET.
COP AND PUBLIC
1.) Damn Reporters: You're the press liason, they're the press. You want to keep as many details under wraps until verification, they just want red meat. Handle with care.
2.) Witnesses: One character saw bits of the crime. Maybe not all of it, but enough. Talk to them and see what they got. Of course, some of them might have seen too much, which means a delicate touch may be required.
3.) "Witnesses:" There's always the nutter who THINKS they saw the criminal or the missing person. Or, hell, maybe they think they committed the crime themselves. Sorting the wheat from the chaff is always a pain.
4.) Victims: Obviously not the dead ones, but there's always the poor sod who's been robbed, beaten... or worse. Hopefully you can get something useful out of them; they might be in a bit in shock, after all.
5.) The Worst Thing Ever: Guess what? You get to go tell the loved ones that their relative or spouse is dead! Doesn't that sound like fun?
6.) The Autopsy: Technically, the medical crews who handle things like autopsies and the like aren't really official policemen. That said, you just got the dubious pleasure of sitting in as they do their work. See how long you can last without barfing. Doctor, we hope you're not the type who ENJOYS watching policemen turn green at the gills.
7.) Not Connected In the Slightest: Friend? Partner? Relative? A cop has downtime too. How much are you willing to tell your loved ones about your job? And how much do you want to shield them?
A note about setting: There is literally nothing that dictates that your scenario has to take place in modern-day America or Britain. Maybe it takes place in China, or South Africa. Maybe it takes place in the past, or the future, or a complete fantasy setting. All have been done before; there's even police procedurals with superheroes, after all! Feel free to play it as you see fit.
And, of course, have fun, coppa!

It was different, today. There had been specific orders: watch the procedure closely. Question the medical examiner. Learn everything you can about the cause of death, about the case, about the victim themselves. Everything relevant that they had, they had turned over to Ms. Kimishima when they had brought her the body.
There had been nothing for him to do but agree, of course. No doubt Vexen would want to hear every minute detail--their forensics specialist always did, in cases like these. So Lexaeus settled into the chair provided for him, sighing quietly as it creaked in protest at his weight, and resigned himself to a long evening ahead. It probably wouldn't be simple, he knew that much right off the bat; since when was any case he worked on ever simple? His division always had ended up getting the cases that were a little strange, not so easy to explain, a little darker than some might be comfortable handling.....

[Also they're probably Canadian since he's French and America doesn't have female special forces old enough to retire yet.]
[Anyway, the crime they're fighting today is homicide in a shady part of the city. A career crook was found very messily shot up in the street the previous night, and now it's time to look for witnesses.]

Jessica Hamby-Compton~ True Blood OTA (Spoilers)
Jessica did just kill three faerie girls and attacked another because of their blood. This was before vamp camp. If you want to play a cop who works for the vamp camp for the Gov. or Mrs. Newlin? That would probably work best here.}

Once he was comfortable with the whole thing being for real, not so out there at all.

Welcome back! How'd the move go? :O
An odd mix of dull and interesting. I'm still unpacking and settling in.
I see, I see... glad to know that the move went relatively well, though!
No worries, you have seemed busy.
Thanks. ^^; How about you? Have you settled into your new home okay?
Still settling in, really! It was a cross-country move and all.
Aah, right, I'd forgotten about the cross-country bit... hope it's going smoothly.
So far, so good! It'll be smoother once we each have phones and a phone plan, I think.
Ah, that's good to hear. Crossed fingers and best wishes that it doesn't take too long!
Thanks! :) Slowly getting used to the area, and it seems like a good one so far. :)
That's nice... :O It can be difficult to find an area to settle down in sometimes.

Poor Edgeworth. He never asked for this... XD;
Indeed he didn't. And yikes, sorry for losing the tag...
It's okay! I take it that Dreamwidth ate the notif or something?
I probably deleted it by accident while clearing out other mail. DW rarely eats notifs for me.
Ah... DW eats my notifs every now and again. Which sucks, really, but what can you do...
In my case, use an email provider that's not so preemptive about "spam filtering".
Ah, I see... does GMail work?
No, people having issues with Gmail is exactly why I brought this up.
Ah. What e-mail client would you recommend, then?
Not a different client, but a different service. Sadly, mine's now paid-only for new accounts. :(
Awww. Damn, that sucks... :<
Still, the principle of looking into other, more reliable email services holds.
A fair point. Something I've yet to find at this point.
