[The past two weeks have been rough. Her mother's death was sudden and unexpected, and Joan has been dealing with it by remaining entirely shut down emotionally as she went through the necessary steps, arranging for the funeral, handling family, and then making all the necessary plans to transport her mother's body to China to be buried with her family.

Joan is going with her. And spending a few months visiting family. Her mother had been on her case to make the trip for years, and now...now she has no reason not to.

It has nothing to do with the fact that she hadn't figured out her mother was sick. Hadn't been able to help her. Had been too busy to see her the past couple months.

Nothing to do with guilt at all. Of course not.

Her bags are packed, waiting upstairs for her morning flight. She's in the kitchen, sitting at the table with a cup of tea in her hands, staring at the steam rising from its surface.]

[ It was the night before class 3-A graduated for good, and of course Tamaki had called an emergency meeting of the host club. She hadn't been surprised, of course, though she had pretended not to expect the snacks and decorations - he'd gone through the exact same motions for Honey and Mori.

But it was getting late, and the twins had dragged Tamaki to the corner to tease him about something or other, so Haruhi steps in next to Kyouya and casts a sidelong glance up at him. ]

The school is going to be a lot different without you.

[As these things go, it's not the best situation she's been in. Probably not the worst. Maybe. She's sort of lost track at some point, really--traveling with the Doctor wasn't exactly the safest thing.

But it was amazing. At least, when they weren't locked in a windowless underground cell, being guarded by Daleks.]

He'll be all right. He's stood up to the entire Dalek army before, and won.

[She doesn't sound entirely certain though. He looked an awful lot like he was about to die when she last saw him--and even if he is all right, she's not sure he'll make it in time. But, they have to believe. After all, that's what they do, isn't it? Believe in him.

This wasn't the first time Susan had visited these particular brothers. From the first adventure they'd suffered together, through the Magical shenanigans that caught them up on the odd occasion, to the casual forewarnings that Grandad had occasionally thought to provide, Susan had visited them enough times that they qualified as family friends. If it weren't for the impossibility of it, and the fact that they would never agree to be taken anywhere Magical (understandably, really), they'd probably have been invited for Hogswatch Dinner, long ago.

Unfortunately, being on a first name basis with Death and his family came with a few regrettable perks.

Usually, Susan knocked.

This was not a usual visit, though, and she didn't feel inclined to bother with things like doors. Instead, she arrived in their living room in silence. She was early, but she needed a moment, one of them would arrive home shortly. It occurred to her that they might not recognize her straightaway, with her hair at ground state and wearing her...well, business attire.

Then again, knowing who they were, they would know her on sight...just possibly not as Susan.

[She knew this goodbye wasn't forever, but there's still something to be said about the separation that was bound to occur. She still has Ba'ul, but she won't have everyone else who's helped to ease her many years of loneliness. Almost uncharacteristically, she finds Yuri sitting next to the campfire and sits next to him. She brings her knees up to her chest and wraps her arms around them, sitting there in silence for now. Talking isn't one of her strong points, but she hopes that Yuri can deduce she's not there just for the light, or the heat of the campfire.]
