[ It's nobody's business if Henry's gaze lingers on Hans' eyes and lips when they spar, or if he somehow always brushes past him on his way to his room at the Devil's Den. He's just checking on him -- it's been his duty, after all, to watch out for him. Nothing could ever change that.

They sit next to each other at dinner, shoulder-to-shoulder, but who can blame them? There's only so much room, and only so much food to go around. In a place like this, they're all just soldiers. Boisterous and uncaring of titles and rank and nobility. It's only in times like these that Henry allows himself to melt a bit. He lets himself smile a little softer, cling a little closer to his lord. No one ever questions them. No one ever asks.

War is looming, and tomorrow isn't guaranteed. In times like this, who could blame them for wanting to find more than just camaraderie? Surely no one. But even still, it's too precious to risk losing, and Henry loves Hans too much to risk it getting out.

So they drink and they sing and they play dice into the night, enjoying their wine, and their song. Totally normal. Not a single thing out of place. Just two guys, enjoying a game of farkle because they're not gay. ]

Looks like I win this round!

[ Henry smiles, his eyes bright with victory, alcohol, and the kind of bone-deep affection he couldn't hide if he tried. He only seems to catch himself a moment later, hands fumbling for his dice on the table. ]
