Everyone knows the feeling of when you see someone and you know you've seen them before. Isn't that a part of déjà vu? But what if the connection you have with that person goes beyond the superficial recognition of familiarity? Perhaps you were connected once...in the most intimate of ways. Some religions and philosophies believe in reincarnation of souls, and it's said that souls could be reincarnated together - once again to follow out the same path they did before.
Or maybe not. Maybe it could be a second chance for fixing things that went wrong before, like the a tragedy or circumstances keeping you apart. But can you take that chance? Do you even want to?
HOW TO PLAY- Comment with your character, stating preferences and pertinent information.
- Tag around to others and roll the RNG to determine what your scenario will be.
- The first roll determines the parameters of the "past life," the second the parameters of the "present life." The meme is intended to take place in the present, but there's nothing stopping you from playing out flashbacks to the "past."
- Play out the scene!
- WARNING: There will probably be triggers here.
| | A. THE PAST- Medieval: The two of you lived in the middle ages or an equal high fantasy setting. Kings, queens, knights, wizards, your doomed love was set among the sword and shield.
- Feudal Japan: During this time, honor reigned supreme and warriors lived and died by the sword. Perhaps the two of you lived here?
- War: World War I, World War II, World War...III? Whatever the tension was, the two of you weren't living in happy times.
- Not Human: You were gods, demons, monsters, angels - or at least one of you was.
- Sci-Fi: The two of you found love in a world of science and technology...maybe a base on the moon?
- Taboo: In a past life, the two of you were related, yet still somehow fell in love. Or perhaps there was a big age gap, or different social standings. Whatever it was, your affection was "wrong," somehow.
- Intended for Someone Else: One of you was engaged, intended, or taken by someone else.
- Not Allowed: For some reason, you couldn't have your love back then.
- Tragically Cut Short: Somehow, your love ended in tragedy and one of you died.
- Living Happily Ever After: The two of you grew old together, had a family, the whole shebang, and died of old age. As a reward, you get to be with your loved one again.
- WILDCARD or CHOOSE YOUR OWN
B. THE PRESENT- (Not So) First Meeting: You could swear you've seen this person before...but where?
- Need to Be Near You: You don't know why, but you have to be close to this person, to protect them, to love them.
- Memories: You're having memories of your past life and it's freaking you out.
- The Reveal: Somehow, the truth is revealed to you about who you used to be and what you life was like with this person.
- But I'm Taken: Unfortunately, you've already moved on to someone else who doesn't fit into the picture of your past.
- You Have to Be With Me: You're determined to rejoin with your past lover...even if they're not interested.
- He Doesn't See Me: You're afraid your lover only sees the past "you" and not the you who exists now. Are they in love with a memory?
- Madness Ensues: It's getting hard for you to tell which life is the "real" one, the one you have now or the one in the past. Perhaps you only see one way of release: becoming reincarnated again.
- It All Worked Out: The battles are fought, the war is one. You've earned your happy ending in this life and the two of you can live together.
- WILDCARD or CHOOSE YOUR OWN

[He staggers as the ship rocks beneath him, and he finds himself back in medbay, clutching at the edge of the biobed. Shit, what had he been saying? What had he just asked for? What the hell was going on?]
- the, the dermal regenerator! Stat!
no subject
She rushes back a moment later, handing him the regenerator. Thankfully there are no more flashes of that other place for the moment.]
Here, sir.
no subject
[Dammit, Len, focus. This isn't the time to be taking flights of goddamned fancy to wherever that was - whenever that was. You've got enough on your hands as it is.]
Finished here - do a post, Nurse Laria - give me that PADD, who's next?
[He snatches up a PADD from a nearby nurse, scanning for the next patient.]
Nurse Chapel! Table 17, now!
[And he's off.]

"Please, sir. When we reach the new location, I want to assist you however I can. You know I take orders well, and I'll do anything you need me to." She feels a bit of heat in her face and knows she's blushing. It's wrong, she knows, but she hasn't heard from Roger in so long and she wants to be useful to someone.
no subject
"Thank you, Nurse Chapel." He glances at her for a long moment, noting the color in her cheeks. It's not unattractive. He would be foolish to think his nurse was anything less than beautiful, but he knows she has a fiance out there somewhere, and he would never dream of getting between them. "I hope you feel you have not been ill-used here?]
no subject
"I'll see you at the new location, sir."
Christine comes out of her daze to see she's touching Dr. McCoy's arm right there in the medbay. She gasps, quickly turning back to the patient and moving to tear the fabric away from the injury to his calf, carefully not looking at McCoy.]

Heartbeat is accelerated. We need 50 mg of tramadol - should be enough for now.
no subject
[She hurried over to the medicine lock up, which wasn't so locked up anymore after a fallen beam had taken out the door. Carefully stepping around it, her eyes scanned the shelves, seeing that some vials had been knocked around and were on the floor. She couldn't use anything damaged, so she hoped the tramadol was safe. After a moment she found it, vial undamaged, and returned with it and a hypospray for the doctor.]
no subject
[Her absence also gives him a second to have a pretty serious internal what the even fuck moment, because what the even fuck. One minute he's here, in the middle of a serious situation, and the next, he's with Nurse Chapel in the past, and he's in love with her, and that scares the hell out of him. Is he losing his mind? This is the worst possible time for this to happen, and he's not going to let it.
As soon as she gets back with the tramadol, he loads it into the hypospray and fires it into the patient's neck, watching as his face relaxes.]
Take the tricorder, check the extent of the damage. If you can just use the dermal regenerator on it, do it; I'm going to the next bed over.
no subject
[She takes the tricorder and looks up at Dr. McCoy for a moment. That's all it takes before she's spinning back into that hallucination again.
This time the scene has changed and she's outside a tent late at night. Her white apron is stained with blood and she's holding her engagement ring on its chain, staring at it critically.
"I just don't know anymore, Roger. This war's made things so complicated. I don't think I'm the girl you once knew anymore."
Hearing someone approach, she drops the ring down inside the collar of her nurse's uniform.]

"What about you, sir? You must be tired."]
no subject
He checks his watch. "You should retire for the night, Nurse. We will be up early tomorrow morning."]
no subject
"Yes, sir. Please, get some rest too?"
As she asks, she begins to move away, intent to heading into the tent she shares with the other nurses.]

Personnel! Report!
no subject
[She's shaken by everything that's hitting her at once, unable to understand or even explain it, but she does her duty and moves to assess the injuries on her next patient while more crew stagger into the damaged med bay. Across the aisle she spots Dr. McCoy and her heart flutters in her chest. Is she just crazy, or is this something she can disclose to him? She's afraid of what he'll say if she tells him about these strange hallucinations that feel like memories, but another part of her wants to spill it all out; to trust him.]
no subject
You hit your back, not your head, McCoy. Keep it together.]
Status report, Nurse! You okay?
no subject
Fine, sir! You?
no subject
[And he turns away from her, breathes in, and hurries off to check in with the other personnel.]

Nurse Chapel!
no subject
She jumps up, smoothing down her uniform, blood stains and all, and rushes to meet him.]
Yes, sir?
no subject
[He'll ask the rest of the medbay staff after this, but he has to ask her first - just to know if she's seen the same things he has.]
no subject
[She hesitates, because lying to a superior officer is not something she wants to do, but it would be so selfish of her if she hid this so she could keep working and she ended up making a medical error. Why does she have to be such a stickler for the rules?]
I... for a brief time, I mean, I had a... mild episode. Just a hallucination, but it's passed now, I promise.
no subject
[He ignores the twisting in his stomach and scowls instead, pulling out his tricorder and turning it towards her.]
