Hurt/Comfort - Hurt/comfort is a fan fiction genre that involves the physical pain or emotional distress of one character, who is cared for by another character. The injury, sickness or other kind of hurt allows an exploration of the characters and their relationship.

1. INJURY. You've been injured. Broken bones or bleeding out or maybe just a tiny little papercut. The choice is yours.
2. SICKNESS. You're sick and laid up in bed, at home or in a hospital. The severity is up to you.
3. FEAR/ANXIETY. Something is happening and you're scared beyond belief.
4. LOSS OF SENSES. Sight, touch, taste, hearing, smell, etc. You've lost some important sense or ability and now you're left to deal with it.
5. DESPAIR. Nothing is good or right anymore and you can't shake the depression. Maybe that friend of yours can help though...
6. BREAKUP. You've been dumped. You need someone to comfort you, possibly by the one who dumped you.
7. MAKE UP. Fight or break up, it's time to makeup.
8. RESCUED. You've just been held captive and/or tortured for however long and finally, someone has come to the rescue.
9. BAD ROMANCE. Fight, cheated on, abused, whatever the case is, someone else can clearly see you need comfort from someone who isn't your terrible lover tonight.
10. LOSS. You've experience a loss of some kind and need help getting through it.
11. INSANITY. You're seeing things that aren't really there, hearing voices, or you're just convinced you're at your wit's end finally and you're going to crack. Maybe someone can give you a helping hand.
12. TIRED. You've had a heard life recently and you're just worn too thin to really care anymore. There's no fight left in you anymore. Can someone help change your mind?
13. ADDICTION. Drugs, alcohol, sex, gambling, or any other type of addiction has got you in its grasp. First time or relapse. Will someone be able to save you?
14. INSOMNIA. You can't sleep anymore, no matter how hard you try. Maybe someone can give you company.
15. NIGHTMARES. Or, on the other end of the spectrum, you can't sleep without gruesome, horrible nightmares. Either someone is stuck in your dream with you, witnessing it or they're just waking you up, soothing you out of it.
16. BLACKMAIL. You've been caught doing something you shouldn't and you were blackmailed because of it
17. SEPARATION. You're going to be separated for awhile or were separated for a long time. Either make up for lost time or try to spend every last moment together.
18. VIOLATED. You've been violated in some way. Can include sexual overtones or not. Can someone help you through it?
19. STRANDED. You've been stranded somewhere remote, with no help of anyone finding you for awhile. Can you survive this together?
20. SINS. You're feeling the weight of your sins and guilt clearer than ever. Can someone give you absolution or lessen the ache any?
21. SECRET. It's difficult having to keep that secret of yours, be it a relationship or something you just don't want to share with anybody else. Maybe it's okay to talk about it now though...
22. ADDITION. Babies should be joyous things unless you're in a situation where you know you won't be able to care for them. Either you've adopted or found out you're pregnant.

It had taken months to claw his way back from the brink of death. Months of his men, his pirates, being killed and trod on by Hoyt's privateer dogs. Months of pain and weakness while watching the Rakyat and his whore sister trying to pick off what Hoyt's dogs hadn't already taken down.

He'd been pulled off the island. Forced to retreat and gather his strength with his best and most loyal. They had been Rakyat in their time. All surviving the island and its dangers. When Vaas had broken fully from his people to try and take the island for Hoyt, he'd managed to pull them with him. Now they were keeping him alive as he made his plans to turn against Hoyt and deal with Citra once and for all.

His plans had taken a sudden shift, though, when he found out that Jason was still alive. That Hoyt was trying to break him and make him his new mad dog on a chain had pissed Vaas off. Jason was his fucking chew toy and like hell was he going to let Hoyt break him. He also didn't want the find out what the white boy would be like to face down with everything that made him human stripped away like Hoyt would do. Jason had been a formidable opponent and a hard little fuck to even do lasting damage to.

So he folded in the need to rescue Jason, because no one was allowed to break that boy but him, into his plans. Made them a priority to let Hoyt know he was alive and that no matter how powerful the crime lord was he could still be struck at. That Vaas did not appreciate being cast off as useless. That he would not let his men be stepped on like ants.

There were several estimates of how long a human could go without sleep before actually dying from it. While sleep deprivation was a nearly universal experience and so was the practice of deliberately fighting the urge to fall asleep, the situation was a bit like holding one's breath in that eventually, no matter how hard a person tried to keep it up, they would simply collapse unconscious before any real harm could be done. Even those who suffer acute mania or are filled with amphetamines will eventually find themselves blacking out a little at a time. Certainly people have been tortured to death by sleep deprivation, but the emotional stress involved in being tortured to death would have hastened their deaths in highly variable ways, as would the choice of physical measures used to ensure that sleep was not possible. A certain extremely rare genetic condition progressively robbed its victims of the physical capability of sleeping, causing death from sleep deprivation after the age of reproduction...

Moriarty didn't sign the text message he sent to Sherlock Holmes, but really, who else could it be? The phone was registered to someone who didn't exist. Moriarty regretted sending it a scant second after he had pressed the send button, it undermined the entire mystique he had been building for so long and killed the suspense. Maybe Sherlock would think it was some sort of unimaginative prank by some drunk police detective?

[It's no use. No matter what, Natsuru just can't seem to even get comfortable. Every few seconds, she'd shift around, close her eyes, and still be wide awake.

It's been gradually getting worse, too. She used to eventually pass out from exhaustion, and then have to trudge through the day on what little sleep she had. But if it keeps up, she'll end up staying awake through the next morning, and who knows how much that would drive her crazy?

At that thought, she lets out a loud groan, pushing herself up to lean back with a very ungraceful thud against the headboard. If anyone nearby heard, or were maybe awakened from their own rest, they'd see a very annoyed blue-haired girl with her arms crossed, glaring at the wall. As if it's to blame for her not being able to get some freaking rest for once!

She just knows she'll be sore and hazy and tired all day once the sun rises, too... dammit...]

It was Severus who found Granger lying sprawled on the cold floor in the Malfoy Manor. He'd heard the screams of agony echoing through the corridors and the hallways, and the unmistakable sound of Bellatrix's gleefully sinister laugh.

By the time he reached the room, his wand at the ready to defend himself, Bellatrix was nowhere to be seen, but there lay Granger, stony-faced, sweating, seemingly paralysed by whatever it was Bellatrix had done to her. The Cruciatus Curse, Severus thought as he hurried across the girl, his robes billowing behind him; that was, after all, Bellatrix's favourite, and those screams of pain he'd heard weren't from just receiving a mere cut.

Crouching down next to Granger, he took her wrist and held her arm out when he noticed a wound upon it: the word 'Mudblood' carved into her flesh. A feeling of incensed revulsion towards Bellatrix stirred in him. Laying her arm back to the ground, Severus pointed his wand at Granger's chest and began drawing a slow line down her sternum to the base of her ribs as he quietly incanted, "Restituere Subsidio."

A green glow emanated from his wand, releasing a calming energy into Granger to relax her muscles and relieve her of residual pain from the Cruciatus Curse.
