Injured by your own hand or someone else's, you still need help to get you through it. Let's hope someone finds you before it's too late!

[ He ghosts away, leaving Tony the illusion of privacy, though he listens from the kitchen. Just making sure that the young billionaire isn't contemplating a lawsuit, or an air strike.

He won't take insult from Tony's words. He didn't expect to be rewarded. ]

[ Nothing of the sort.

Mostly, it's him speaking to someone named Pepper -- the famous Miss Potts -- and a back-and-forth of I'm fine, I'm still living and them talking over each other and tony what's going on where are you! and this call is coming in from a different state, tony! and that's when he realizes he can't just have Hogan sent out in the Rolls-Royce and he slaps and rubs his hand down over his face and readjusts his plan. He really hates the Magia.

He orders her to cover up his absence -- make up some business trip, or maybe he's just off with some hot model or on Iron Man duty -- and have one of his jets sent over with Happy inside and he'd call him from there, okay? Oh, and bring medical supplies -- which she answers with a shriek of Tony! before he hangs up. ]

[ Cue Benjamin returning, taking the phone and placing it back in the kitchen in its cradle. Limited battery life, on these things. ]

I stitched up the wound. I'll have to go scrounge up some antibiotics for you, since I don't know what was on that knife.

You're welcome to stay. As long as you like.

That won't be necessary. I have a plane coming in and my driver will get me out of here.

[ Tony turns his head to Benjamin from where he lies, fully intending to deliver a drawling thanks, but then he pauses, eyes squinted, sweating a little, in obvious pain, and he draws his eyes back away, more distant. ]

... Thanks.

[ a deep breath, back to himself ]

I can compensate you for your troubles, if you want. [ a pause, a glance ] That's ... what you want, right?

I want to know that the man who stumbled onto my doorstep bleeding, desperate and alone is no longer bleeding, back on his feet, and with friends.

[ he takes a seat next to Tony. ]

That tends to be enough of a challenge. I don't pursue money too.

[ Tony squints up at the ceiling, lying flat on his back, one hand on the wound. He remembers pieces: the desperate bout for freedom from the Magia, the knife, hiding in an alley. Stumbling to the first safe haven he found. The wash of blood. ]

Might wanna pursue new floorboards. You can probably sell the stained ones for a pretty penny to the fanatics.

As yours isn't the only blood that's stained them, I doubt that. And there are all sorts of pesky regulations.

[ He touches the back of Tony's hand. ]

Are you all right?

[ That touch gets a slightly quirked eyebrow, but Tony lets it be. Strangers touch him all the time. ]

Yeah, I feel great. [ Sarcasm. Maybe. His tone of voice makes it hard to tell. ] Why do you ask?

I should have expected that -- Tony Stark is, after all, a notorious liar.
