Before this, you had nowhere to go. Nowhere but your own aching body, most likely injured, or your tussled thoughts. You may not even know where to go, your identity stripped from you in whatever hurricane of an action that lead you to be so down and out. But then, someone came along and offered you somewhere to stay. You can't turn that down, no matter how loathe you may be to deal with anyone or owe anyone something.
Or that's how it all begins. As you two stay close together and they nurse you back to full strength - despite your potential complaints - things between you change. You grow closer and more used to each other; then, slowly, what used to be thankfulness and generosity turns into love...or something like it. Affection. Deep adoration.
And somewhere along the line, that itself turns physical.
You're thanking them. You're trying to show them how much you care. You want them to love you more than anyone, because they gave you a chance and a home. You need to seal the deal and do more than just "play house" with them. No matter the case, they've opened their bed to you now, as well. This could be the first time, the last time, or the millionth time, but you'll gladly take their offer.

- ғɪɴᴅɪɴɢ — Who's that? They're no ordinary passersby! Were they in an accident? Are they foreign? ...should you approach them?
- ʀᴀɪɴ, ʀᴀɪɴ, ɢᴏ ᴀᴡᴀʏ — The elements make this night no time to sleep out of doors.
- ʙᴀᴄᴋ ᴛᴏ ʜᴇᴀʟᴛʜ — Cuts, broken bones, injuries all of sorts...you have to stitch them back up, then make sure they don't get any
- ɢᴏᴏᴅ ɢᴜᴇsᴛ — It's all you can do to show gratitude to the person who took you in. Fix them a meal, care for their house, whatever you can do once you're able.
- ʙᴀᴅ ɢᴜᴇsᴛ — FUCK THIS PERSON AND FUCK THEIR COUCH. You didn't ask to be brought here. Let them clean up after you, you don't even care.
- ᴡʜᴏ ᴀᴍ ɪ? — How you got into this situation is a mystery. Even more of a mystery is your identity, and why the person you were would be so displaced.
- ʟᴇᴀʀɴɪɴɢ — If you've been injured badly enough or can't remember all too well, you might have to relearn a good deal. Luckily, you have a helping hand.
- sᴄᴀʀs — Scars from the encounter that lead you here or scars from prior, you don't want them to see either. You still have your secrets to keep.
- sᴛᴜʙʙᴏʀɴ — Ugh, your house guest is so stubborn! They always get up when they should be resting, have the worst habits, and completely disrespect your home! You'll get to them, one way or another. Or you'll throw them out. You don't want to, but you will.
- ᴄᴏᴍғᴏʀᴛ — Bad memories or nightmares wreck you; your host and nurse comes to your side unexpectedly.
- ᴄᴜʟᴛᴜʀᴇ ᴄʟᴀsʜ — The person who's taken you in is from a different culture or lifestyle than you, and adapting is harder than you thought.
- ᴄʀᴇᴀᴛᴜʀᴇ ғᴇᴀᴛᴜʀᴇ — Think learning about a new culture is hard? Try being a different species. Can you keep your little eccentricities at bay for the good of your station?
- ᴊᴇᴀʟᴏᴜsʏ — Now that your emotions towards your caretaker/host/jailer are softening, you're finding yourself unusually jealous of those in their life who were close to them before.
- ɴᴇᴡ ᴀᴄᴛɪᴠɪᴛɪᴇs — You never thought you'd have fun after all that's happened, yet such simple gestures as a picnic or a movie make all the difference.
- ʀᴇᴀʟɪᴢᴀᴛɪᴏɴ — You love them, this person who's taken you in or this person you've found. It's not a pity or a thankfulness, it's love, and you know that now. What you choose to do with this information is
- ʜɪsᴛᴏʀʏ — Suddenly, the person who's been so nice to you finds out that the two of you have a history. You killed their loved ones or caused something terrible. How can they forgive you?
- ᴘʀᴏᴛᴇᴄᴛ — So much has been done for you. The least you can do in return for the one who helped you at your lowest is make sure they never have such a low point.
- ᴅᴀɴɢᴇʀ ᴄᴏᴍᴇs ᴋɴᴏᴄᴋɪɴɢ — Anyone in the way of getting to you will be destroyed, and that includes the person you're staying with.
- ʟɪᴠᴇ ᴡɪᴛʜ ᴛʜᴇᴍ — You've been given a home, maybe which you've never had before. You don't want to leave.
- ʀᴏᴍᴀɴᴄᴇ — Not only are you living with them, but you're starting a proper life with them.
- ʀᴇᴠᴇᴀʟ — All secrets are laid out on the table. You've decided to tell about your past and what lead you here.
- ʀᴇᴠᴜʟsɪᴏɴ — What you've done and who you are is so heinous, they want nothing more to do. You're to leave their home and leave them alone.
- ᴀᴄᴄᴇᴘᴛᴀɴᴄᴇ — It doesn't matter what they've done. You've opened your home and your heart to them, and nothing's changed.
- ᴘᴀʀᴛɪɴɢ — All things must come to an end. No matter what you feel for each other, it's time to leave. Hopefully, you'll see each other again.
- ʜᴀᴘᴘɪʟʏ ᴇᴠᴇʀ ᴀғᴛᴇʀ — Come what may, you've decided to stay at your new home with the person you love. Now, it's safe enough to do so.

it's him that's on her doorstep again, bloodied again, and though rowena knows that his body is healing, that with time he'd completely heal himself, she also knows she'll give him a little boost from her magic as he rests )
We have to stop meeting like this.
( she steps back to let him in, offering a hand if he needs it, and directs him to her couch. she'll grab the whiskey and the washcloths first )

Anyway, turns out, she couldn't tell him, either, but she was pretty good at kicking it out of his system.
He doesn't remember it. He doesn't remember most things past the last couple of decades. He does remember her, in patches. Enough that he shows up again the next time he finds himself not healing like he should. And again. (Look, it doesn't happen that much.)
It's a little weird, thinking she might know him better than he knows himself. He's not sure how he feels about it. But a witch doctor's a witch doctor, and her liquor cabinet's never less than fully stocked. There's worse places to be. Definitely worse company to be had. ]
Yeah, well. [ He's got one arm on her doorframe. There are three bullets in him, none of which he's been able to just spit up like usual, so. That's a fucking problem. ] Next time, I'll buy you dinner before I get shot.
[ He plops onto her couch. It sinks under his weight. ]

( she'd joke about he could take her after he's healed but she knows he'd prefer to be out of that door than linger. she's not hurt by it, amused more by him, and these moments of company break up some of her life. she'll flirt but she'd never try to keep him around.
a wiggle of her fingers over the bowl warms the water before her hand passes over him, removing his shirt with her magic and letting it drop in a bloody pile beside her when her hand lowers, letting her look over his injuries before dipping the washcloth into the water )
Who shot at you this time?
( she'll clean up the worst of the blood before offering to get the bullets out and heal him. part of it will be a painful process but she can soothe that after when she heals him )

But a drink? Now that he can do. ]
Not sure. [ Sometimes people come after him. Sometimes he doesn't know who the hell they are or why. It's a thing. Anyway, he's already digging a finger into one of the bullet holes with a grunt; blood trickles down his chest. ] Died before I could ask. Probably ex-military.
[ All guns, no mutant powers, knew enough about him to load up their darts with something that's making him, well. Do this. Bleed, for a hell of a lot longer than he normally ever does.
He drops the first bullet on her table. ]
They had this. [ He fishes a small dart out of his pocket and holds it out. Smells bitter to him—smoky, almost. Nothing he recognizes. ] Just need you to flush whatever that is out of me, and I'll be good as new. And, I dunno, you got any magic tricks to trace where it came from?
[ Yeah, maybe he'll be out that door as soon as he's better, but. Maybe he won't. Maybe he'll find a reason to stick around for a bit. 'Cause frankly, he could've parked himself in some rundown motel and waited this out. Might take a day, two. Nothing new. He's been on his own for a long time.
He didn't. He came for her. It's not every day he willingly goes to anybody for help. ]

so she finishes cleaning up his chest, which means little when he's still bleeding, when popping the bullets out pushes more blood out, and lowers the cloth back to the bowl before taking the dart from him )

( she'd analyse it first, trace the owner, and bounce the dart right back to whoever had fired it.
there's a fleeting thought that perhaps she'd go with him to make sure he doesn't just end up on her doorstep again but she doesn't voice it, doubtful he'd want the company even if her magic could be an asset and she doesn't go looking for conflict, generally )</small Stay the night and you'll have that answer in the morning.
