Every occasion has its own dress code. You wouldn’t show up at a job interview in your PJs, would you?

• A simple formality: it’s a matter of being polite. You’re attending a public event, a wedding or a funeral.

• Ceremonial: there are times when the regular work uniform just doesn’t cut it. Time to pull out the bells and whistles.

• One size fits all: it’s the only thing you have to wear, since you’re an inmate, or a patient.

• Work attire: from your everyday cashier to the cops and military personnel.

• Safety first: hard hats and lab coats. Wouldn’t want to have an accident that could have been prevented.

• Dressing it up: Fun times and get togethers. Time to glam it up a little for prom, or a black-tie dinner party.

• FREE CHOICE The clothes make the man: just because you choose to wear it, doesn’t make it any less of a uniform.

It's a little like a costume and a whole lot like a flight suit; and as much as it fits and protects and stands for something greater than the man that wears it; as much as it clings to every stretch of muscle? When the good Captain is suited up entirely Adele can't find herself admiring him in it. It's a sympol. He's an American icon. And while in uniform he is more often than not in the soldier's mentality and that does not include taking time for her to observe him at her leisure. He has better things to do.

When he returns at the end of a mission, however, and lounges around their flat sans skullcap and the jacket of said uniform? It is easier for her to look and see Steve. It's not even a question of skin being on display for the dark, clinging shirt he wears underneath the suit jacket but rather a question of enticement. So if while he discusses as much as he's able to of the last mission while she's pouring him tea and she gets a little lost in the shadows and curves of fabric on skin long enough to overfill a cup and have it spill on the table-

Not entirely her fault. It's the suit.

"And right in the middle of Baron Zemo monologuing about all his evil plans, Iron Man crashes the plane thorough the roof. I had told him to create a distraction, but that was a little much, don't you think?"

Steve of course has no clue about the effects the suit has on her. It's not exactly something he wears to look appealing, or to attract that kind of attention. He thinks about it in terms of a battle suit. Something that will protect him during the battles he faces on a near daily basis. So he's not really clear on what could be distracting her except...well, his story.

"Adele? You're spilling the tea." He reaches out and tilts the tea pot upwards, so it's no longer spilling out. "I'll get a towel to clean this up, okay?"

"Mmm?" Stark being Stark and by that she means to think flashy and overdramatic and a tactical wildcard- leaving him a nightmare to plan around. It's cause for no end of headaches for Steve and, in turn, Adele on his behalf. "Quite."

Because she needs to speak but he's shifting a little, still slightly restless or humming with leftover energy from the mission and it makes the fabric bunch and shift and stretch over the expanse of his pectorals and she feels her mouth go a little dry and tea is something she should be drinking- the teapot shifts in her hands and the puddle on the coffee table makes itself known.

"What? I- oh." She is too old to blush. So she isn't blushing, she's just staring intently at the overfull mug of tea. "I'm sorry."

"Don't worry about it. As long as it gets cleaned up it won't hurt anything." His voice fades little by little as he goes down the hall to the linen closet. A moment later he returns with a dish towel in hand to clean up the mess. He makes quick work of it before dropping the used towel into the sink.

"Is there something in particular on your mind? I didn't mean to bore you with my story."

"I am not bored in the slightest." Far from it. Just. Preoccupied. She clears her throat and serves the rest of the tea, sitting back with a weary smile. It's been a long day- that can be her excuse. A long, wearying day. Made better by his company as it always is.

"Just a little tired." Really.

Steve sits back down and takes a sip of his tea. He studies her over the lip of his cup. She does look tired. Maybe he shouldn't have insisted on coming over right after he finished up at SHIELD.

"I can come back by tomorrow if you want to get your rest."

"You don't have to leave- it's. Steve." She sighs, laughing at herself more than anything else. She may as well be honest about this. It might get him to blush and that is always endearing and quite attractive. "Your current attire is distracting in a very good way."

It doesn't register at first, what's she's saying. So he sits there with a blank expression on his face. His attire is...oh. Oh. He can feel his cheeks heating up as he tries to keep himself from glancing down at his clothes self consciously.

"I don't think..." He clears his throat. "I think this is the first time my uniform has gotten this kind of attention." He can't quite meet her eyes.

It's slightly amusing and mostly endearing how she can pick out the exact moment when what she said clicks and he makes sense of it. A uniform to him, as a soldier, is a uniform. That's what the suit's been and that's how it's seemed to her as long as she's known him. But this?

Half in, half out, a shirt all but painted onto him? She can't help but ogle.

Adele does set her mug of tea aside to reach out and rest her hand on his. "The suit in it's entirety? I do not look at this way. But this is...less the Captain, and more Steve. And I find Steve far, far more attractive than I do the Captain."

Slowly, he looks up and meets her eyes. He understands what she's saying, or at least thinks he does. She's saying that there's a difference between the full uniform-the 'Captain'-than how it was now, somewhere in between. Even he feels different when he's in feel uniform, different than how he feels now, with the uniform half stripped down.

"I...I'm glad. Because this is who I am. When there's no cities to save, I'm just...a normal guy."

"Who happens to have the musculature of a Greek god." Her hand curls in his and she's smiling, and sure her eyes dip a moment to take in the expanse of thinly covered muscle and bone, all that defined strength that seems incongruous with how Steve handles himself. Like he's still small, of that anything he's handed is made of glass.

"A terribly gentle Greek god."
