The (possibly AU) Sibling Incest Meme

Incest is, despite its taboo nature in most societies, actually a pretty popular convention in both romantic fiction and works of a more erotic bent, in everything from period or fantasy pieces to series taking place in places like modern day Japan. Still, the most common configuration in these fictions are the pairing of siblings. Perhaps this is because of the usual lack of age difference and power dynamic that exists in child/adult relative pairings, though this is not always the case. Because of this, a sexual or romantic relationship between siblings can almost seem, well, romantic in the right light. Of course, more often than not, there's a dark side under the veneer of forbidden love.

This meme is for those who would like to play out that, either the darkness or the light - or both.

1. Feeling Strange: You've known this person your entire life, yet lately you've been feeling...different about them. These feelings aren't exactly familial, either.
2. Not as Normal Families: Whatever the specifics of the case may be, your childhood was not the norm, and thus the two of you have grown close that way.
3. Raised Apart: Scientists believe that when siblings are raised together under normal circumstances, they will not find each other sexually attractive; however, if they are reared apart, they may be highly attracted to each other when they meet as adults.
4. Only Kin by Name: Psuedo-incest between step siblings or adopted siblings is not quite as taboo, but you could still be looked down upon for harboring those desires for someone who is a member of your family by one way or another.
5. Defender: One of you is older and has always looked after the other, meaning that something has grown between you that is thicker than any blood.

25. Sick and Twisted: The fact that you two are siblings actually is a kink/fetish for you. You get off to all of this.

Since the day Mary Winchester died, her family hadn't even come close to a normal life. John raised their children as warriors- as hunters- in a desperate attempt to both protect them and hunt down the creature that had killed his beloved wife. He- unthinking, perhaps- had taught Sam to rely on Dean. To trust Dean with anything and everything. And he'd taught Dean to protect Sam. To always put Sam first.

All the brothers had were each other. John wasn't around a lot, forcing Sam and Dean to learn to depend on each other. After all, there was no guarantee their father would come back. And when he did return, he uprooted their lives and moved them wherever the next hunt was. The only constants were Sam and Dean.

Is it any wonder their lives came to this?

They went to school, of course. Dean always seemed to make friends. But the only person Sam ever felt he fit with was his brother. Everyone else thought he was a freak. But not Dean. His big brother was always there when he came back to the motel, bruises across his knuckles and angry tears in his eyes. Dean always made the pain go away.

The day of his fourteenth birthday, Sam understood what the feeling in his chest was. The one that cropped up whenever Dean would smile at him just right or clap him on the back proudly after training. And he hated himself for it. Kept it fiercely buried beneath the teen angst and the growing anger toward his father. When he got into Stanford, that was it. A way to get away from his father and protect his brother from his sick mind.

But then Dad went missing, and Jessica died, and he was on the road again with Dean. Sam lasted three years. Didn't say a word about the feelings that had shown up within a day of rejoining his brother. But it was the eleventh hour, and Dean was hearing the hell hounds, and Sam had to tell him. He'd thought this was the last time he'd ever see his brother. So he spilled it all. Every taboo thought, every sick emotion.

And he spent four months wallowing in his regrets. In his self-hatred. As much as he hated Lilith- and Ruby had tried to get him to be productive about that- he knew that his brother was gone because of him. Because Dean had loved Sam as much as Sam had loved Dean. And that hurt more than words could express.
