He doesn't have to worry about it, thanks to his respiratory bypass system, and while Jack can't exactly be permanently harmed by whatever it is, that doesn't mean he wants to have to drag his body around, should it prove fatal. He leans back against the console to catch his breath.]

They'd been away on a mission together, their first time working together. Loki's restlessness hadn't entirely dissipated, the more he'd thrown himself into the human world. He'd adapted, yes, he'd learned, and it had been good for him, but in the end it hadn't been enough. Finally, it became clear to both of them that he needed work as well as research and survival.

They trusted one another with their lives, and cared enough not to want to see the other harmed. They could both talk their way out of a problem as easily as fight. That was enough, for partners on a mission. Really, for their first time fighting side by side outside of a war, it had gone well at first. They'd infiltrated the heart of the base, ready to take out the leader of the cult whose rampant growth and dangerous practices could no longer be allowed to continue.

The only real hiccup of the mission had come when their target, fighting for his life, had managed injected Loki with something that had dropped him like a felled tree. But Natasha had finished him off, secured the facility, and gotten the Asgardian back to base before any adverse effects could present themselves.

Beyond that, there was nothing to be done beyond keeping an eye on him and trying to figure out what was going to happen, so Fury had sent Natasha home to sleep.

It was late at night on the following day, and Loki stumbled back into the apartment, closing the door behind him more loudly than he'd meant in his panic. He was hoping to find Natasha asleep, and get a few more hours to sweat out this poison alone. He wouldn't have come home at all, but Fury had ordered him, too, and Loki hadn't even had a choice whether or not to disobey.

If anyone could command him, the director had wanted Natasha to be the one holding the leash.]

[ Spoilers are a-okay with me! ...Though somehow I doubt they'll come up i am so sorry i don't even know what this is.

This is just getting worse and worse. It'd started nice and simple, offering to make a good meal for Kuzuryuu considering he was the only guy on the island who hadn't tried his cooking yet. ... There was also the fact that the kid probably had connections, so getting in his good books might give him a leg-up when he started improving the family business (not that Hanamura is anything less than entirely confident in his ability to turn it into a world-class restaurant... it just pays to keep your options open when you're being ambitious). Oh, also! Seeing Kuzuryuu-kun's tsun-tsun face break out in a smile after wolfing down a delicious sausage would be nothing short of despicably arousing!!

So, after much fussing and insisting, dinner was served; baeckeoffe, well-seasoned and cooked to perfection. A meal fit for any epicurean, he'd say.

... So why has Kuzuryuu barely touched it in the past five minutes!?

Sure, he'd had to rework his original recipe a little due to a lack of resources, but what of it? When you don't have pig's feet, you can use oxtail! When the proper tools for a luting paste aren't available, it's normal to use aluminium foil! ... Yeah, he'd been forced to use that 'DESPAIR FEVER' or whatever brand of thyme instead of his usual high-class mix, but it couldn't have thrown the flavour off this badly! Any good cook... no, any good chef understands how to improvise!

And yet, half-way through his meal, Kuzuryuu had just suddenly stopped and started staring at the nearest wall. What is he even supposed to make of this? Is he trying to think up a compliment? Is his palette too unrefined to appreciate good cooking? He wants to say something, but it'd reflect poorly on his pride as a chef if he doubted his ability!

Still, it's been too long and this is just getting plain weird. ]

Ah, Kuzuryuu...-san? [ yes be polite just in case you fucked up (not that he did) good plan. ] Is something wrong?

The robotic police that patrol the streets had never emitted quite this recipe of knockout gas before. Perhaps that's why they were able to subdue the rebel leader more easily than usual. He and his followers did seem to be building up something of a tolerance and it seemed time for a change or two to in the handling of trouble making dissidents.
When Jack wakes, it's in comfortable chair in a magnificently full personal library of otherwise banned reading material. He finds himself on his knees on the floor, the fresh sting of a needle in the muscle of his bicep as expensive shoes click across the floor.

The Duke holds an empty syringe and tosses it I to a rubbish bin beside a large desk. He drops into a chair behind the desk, eying Jack like one watches a caged animal in the zoo; intrigued at what the creature might do, but not remotely threatened and --as of yet-- unimpressed.

"Are we awake now? I'd rather thought you'd come to sooner. Interesting."
