The food was shit and the service not that much better. But Waffle House was closed for construction or something. Maybe it was that giant hole he left in the roof weeks prior.

But after a night of crime fighting, he often craved an omelette and who else was open at this ungodly hour?

there are, again, two options.

one: academy-era jim at 3am with a plate of pancakes, a cup of coffee, and a padd on the table that's open to like. idfk. wildly complicated coding stuff. (what could he possibly be doing? academic crimes? never.)

he's sober tonight but that's not stopping him from flirting with his server, who appears to be deeply into it because he's way more charming when he's not drunk.

two: balls deep (nonsexual) in his career jim at 3pm with a grilled cheese sandwich and one of those tiny wine mom bottles of chardonnay that dennys have when they have liquor licenses. he looks VERY tired but is also completely uninjured, so good for him. miracles never cease.

the oh-so-fancy-and-classy wine bottle isn't open yet. his crew is probably yet again scattered around eating questionable food items. ]

[ it’s not jack’s custom to make stops in the middle of the night. with the full moon behind him, he’s usually much more concerned with putting as much distance between himself and his latest safehouse as possible, lest he be too close by if anyone happens to notice the telltale signs of a werewolf’s presence. it’s not ideal, maybe — not with the painful aftershocks of his transformation still wreaking havoc on his body but, in his experience, it’s what’s safest.

over the years, he’s become fairly adept at pushing through the fatigue that clings to the very marrow of his bones in the wake of a full moon. hunger is an even more familiar friend, one that near-constantly dogs his footsteps even outside of the moon’s monthly cycle, thanks to his preternatural metabolism. by all accounts, his heavy eyelids and growling stomach ought to have been simple enough to ignore when the diner’s glowing sign had appeared in the distance on this otherwise empty stretch of highway, and yet…

… well. it is a diner in the middle of nowhere. if there’s one place that’s probably not going to ask questions about the occasional disheveled transient, it’s probably going to be one like this, right? with any luck, it’ll even be cheap enough that he won’t have to worry about affording a halfway decent meal.

all the same, he makes sure to tuck himself away in a booth that faces the entrance once he’s made his way inside. it may be quiet in here now, sure, but he knows far better than to take that for granted. better safe than sorry, especially when it may very well be the difference between his head remaining on his shoulders or mounted up on a wall.

to the woman who, at length, approaches him, he offers a grateful, if weary smile. ] Just coffee for now, thanks. [ he’s going to need a minute to weigh his options with the menu. and also maybe wake up a little. ]
