In the 21st century, gaming, or the act of playing video games, has become one of the most popular pastimes in the world. There are all kinds of games out there — serious games, silly games, casual games, difficult games. So, in that respect, there's something for everyone!

So toss a controller into your character's hand and let's get gaming!

how to play

1. Create a top-level with your character, and maybe mention what kind of gaming experience you're looking for.

2. Those who tag in are now in the same lobby/server/world/etc! We're gaming together! Where we dropping? More importantly, what kind of gamer are you?

Note: Though this meme is about games, no one expects you to be an expert. Please feel free to fudge some details, make up some numbers, create some enemies, and destroy the existing the mechanics. It's RP. We do what we want.

cozy games - Think of your Animal Crossing, Stardew Valley, Minecraft, etc. The goal of these games is to work together and create a nice, simple life for your in-game avatar.

s hooter games - Kill everyone, don't die. Think Call of Duty, or Fortnite.

fighting games - Someone out there loves a good fight. Now, have an RP fight where no one actually gets hurt! Thanks, Mortal Kombat!

couch co-op - Mario Kart, Overcooked, games where you and your friends are side-by-side, and you're trying to win.

mmorps - Raiding, character building, leveling up skills, and with the added fun of having your character make their own character! FFXIV and World of Warcraft come to mind.

romance - Win the game by getting the person of your dreams! Dating sims might be a little harder to co-op, but maybe both of you are trying to woo the same suitor? Think Monster Prom!

social simulator - A game where the goal is to walk around, socialize, and be your best self might not really be a game at all. It's up for debate. The most popular one of these is Second Life, but VR Chat is pretty similar.

smut games - Dating sim but with more sex scenes! Will you take turns reading the naughty bits aloud?

horror games - The goal is to scare you, first and foremost. Beyond, there might be an element of collaboration to reach an end goal, or a series of tasks to complete to beat a boss, but the real meat and potatoes of this one is the spooky element. Resident Evil, Outlast, Dead by Daylight, any game that goes bump in the night.

other games - There are so many that we missed! Racing games? Dancing games? Trivia games? Family-oriented Wii games? Please, game on you crazy games.

[Partial to 3 & 4, not sure where Pacman would fall amongst these options since it's pretty canon that he loves the game and he'd be INCREDIBLY happy to share that love with people.]

[ Highly competitive gamer, even in peaceful/co-op modes. Especially big on racing games, kingdom sims, and RTS tower defence-type games. When it comes to building/farming sims, expect him to have way too many horses and vegetable crops, or maybe he's busy "claiming" other players' bases while they're not looking. Definitely the type to be a streamer with a reputation for breaking controllers when he loses. Username is some variation of "Azure Dragon" or "Dragon Lord" or "PartyRocker69" with edgy x's and underscores and everything. ]

[While the character has love for tabletop and especially MMO, I admit that I the player don't know the ins and outs of those. If someone is willing to be helpful with more than surface details, then those games for sure.

Open to doing a human version of Ainz. He used to be one, anyway. Otherwise it's all but 2 and 3 if you want him as is.]

[Apparently he's really good at video games, according to supplementary material. I'm mainly looking for competitive games for him, so fighting, racing, strategy, shooters, that sort of thing. M/F if you want to take things in a shippy direction.]

[Has Athrun ever wondered what it's like to suddenly get stuck in the back with a red shell at the tail end of a lap? No?

Well, unfortunately, it doesn't seem like this player that's been making the rounds -- one Alloy_Bron -- is intent on letting anyone forget what it feels like. The past few races have been much more intense since she showed up in the lobby, and it seems like they're only going to get moreso with how that's been a consistent pattern. Alloy_Bron, as it turns out, has a scarily good grasp of the racetrack, has taken shortcuts quite consistently, and seems hellbent on ruining everyone's day with how they keep blasting past... well, pretty much everyone else. Definitely someone who's spent a rather obsessive amount of time on the game.

Of course, behind the screen, there's at least one person that's made her squint real hard. And it's made her very intent to single them out for the next race...]

[For his part, Athrun has been using the display name "RedKnight" on his console. And true to form, he happens to be using a red Yoshi as his racer. He's taken note of this Alloy_Bron -- hard not to with such a high VR -- and how they seem to be running circles around everyone else. It's been the biggest challenge he's had online in quite some time, so he's also interested in seeing what he can do against them on one of his better courses.

Fortunately, the lobby picks one such course -- N64 Rainbow Road. This is a course that was a big part of Athrun's childhood, and he knows it like the back of his hand. Gameplay mechanics changing over the years don't make it exactly the same, but the learning curve for the modern generation in comparison is so gentle that it's almost nonexistent.

This time, when the race begins, Athrun goes hard straight out of the gate. He gets a perfect rocket start, hits all the dash panels, and grabs all the coins on his race line going into the first turn.]

[This one, huh. Well, then. This is going to be a very, very short one.

Bronya's got her foot slammed onto the pedal as well; one perfect rocket start of her own. She misses a coin or two, but that's fine; as long as she has something to tag RedKnight with going into that turn, she's good, and it's her top priority to try and knock him around as she follows him there.

...it's a green shell, but maybe she can force a bad turn by launching it just past them.]

[Athrun starts his drift, then briefly switches his view to behind him -- just in time to see Alloy_Bron launch a green shell in his direction. In a fraction of a second, he has to make a choice. Does he leave his line, or does he tap the brakes? The banana he picked up from the item boxes isn't going to help him based on the shell's trajectory, so those are his only two options -- other than getting hit, of course.

Athrun ends up pressing the brakes for half a second -- enough to make sure the shell overshoots, but not so much that it kills his drift. He adjusts to maintain his line, drifts through the end of the turn, performs the mini-turbo, then enters the first Chomp area. He tricks off the undulating track and drops his banana between waves, then hits the next set of item boxes before the 360-degree turn.]

[ There are few things Kakyoin enjoys more than video games and beating people at them - it's that star student perfectionism coming through. He plays any and all video games, though he's truly a menace at racing and RPGs.

Kakyoin is easy to AU into any canonverse and easily gets along with others even if he's a bit awkward about it at first. ]

[Such a hardcore gamer that she goes on to be a gaming company top dog! More likely to be the one schooling people given how she keeps ruining a good friend's day at the couch, but she very much relishes a challenge when she sees it.]

[Shooting games were always Billy's jam! That's why he decides to sign himself up to a team deathmatch server for the evening. It was the Red Team vs. the Blue Team where the game ends whenever one side was completely wiped out. Billy's character was modeled after a red ranger sentai! For him, red was the color of passionate justice! And he made sure that his character was holding two pistols to boot.

Though he was bound to swap his weapons out with the items hidden throughout the field stage. While the players were entering the server and teams were being shuffled, Billy found himself on the red team! (Very fitting for him). There's a huge stir going on with his end of the chatroom. His username was 'StarlightKnightAlwaysNo1'.]

[Bronya's own in-game character didn't do much to hide who she was; the outfit her character wore was also particularly eyecatching, with its eastern aesthetic mixed with techy visuals. It's often joked in certain circles that people get distracted by the moving visualizer on her dress before they get no-scoped.

Bronya was also the sort of gamer that could stick her nose into a lot of genres and get good very quickly at it. After all, she dominated the rankings of quite a few online games even as a wee youth, and that hasn't been slowed in the slightest by her new work as Studio Reason's face. But if there was any kind of game that drew out her best, it was the arena shooter, and it showed best in her weapon choice: the deadly sniper rifle. It's telling enough that the team she was assigned to is just surging in morale having her on their side.

And her team's chat, well... one could probably imagine the barely contained excitement that a big shot was slotted in with them.]

[That said, the battle arena is fully loaded and set to an abandoned old city! The red and blue teams would both spawn in their own representative buildings with the rest of the town to raid, strategize and explore! Not only that, it would be easy to see who was on each team seeing how the usernames were in their team colors.

Since Bronya was the MVP of this match, Billy's team was going to mainly focus on picking off the weaker members and hope that she doesn't snipe them all first. On one hand, Billy sees the pragmatic strategy in all of this. But on the other hand, there was just something lacking about the honor in it all!

Would it not be great to have a one-on-one duel with THE Alloy_Bron? A passionate showdown of bullets and skill?! Why were they being so cowardly?!

Billy in his avatar was taking his time to run through the streets and hides in an alleyway as he sees one of his teammates running on ahead as he grabs an item. BowlingForChips is sadly making themselves an open target out in the streets! Was this an accident or were they intentionally doing this in hopes to get a glimpse on that fabled skirt action?]

Okay... I said all that cool stuff, but now I gotta live up to my own hype! [A beat.] If she's a sniper, then standing out of the open is the worst possible option.

( twitch streamer eddie au, say no more. he usually plays single-player games he can grind on stream, but has a soft spot for farming sims and other co-op games. or 1v1 him in mortal kombat, surely spamming all the buttons on his controller will work wonders. )

[ steve's phone is set up vertically, held tightly in place at the end of a plastic holder. a ring light hangs, each of his movements reflected in the screen. he hasn't gone live yet, as working up to a tiktok stream means checking and checking to make sure things are set up properly. steve then angles the phone again, perfecting the shot.

gazing at his monitor, steve pulls up eddie's discord and hits call. he then leans back in his chair, swiveling back and forth with his arms folded. he's wearing a gray hoodie and blue board shorts, knowing that people can't see past his torso. chewing his lip, he watches the green circle, the chiming noise never ending.

steve isn't a nervous person. not really, not on tiktok. his twitch is also pulled up for better exposure, and of course, the youtube stream's chat is already full in anticipation. he doesn't care about that. what he does care about is hearing eddie's voice, the sweet croon, his laugh, the way he gets embarrassed. steve's stomach flips, but as the discord call finally connects, steve laughs. ]

What, did you forget?

( eddie has been doing this for a couple of years, so loading up the game, connecting to obs, and checking all of his peripherals is old hat. he goes live, brings up his twitch chat, and starts his usual antics, joking around with some of his usual spectators. it isn't until one of his moderators pings him hey, aren't you forgetting someone? that he even remembers he had his discord minimized with notifications muted so they wouldn't interfere with the game or stream audio. )

Oh, shit, hold on --

( eddie connects on discord, checking his levels to make sure steve's audio will come through. what, did you forget? he laughs, making a big show of smacking his forehead. )

I would have remembered eventually.

( eddie shakes his head before drawing in a deep breath and letting it out as a huff. )

Chat, say hi to Steve. Steve, I'm sorry in advance for anything outrageous they say about you.

[ steve laughs, running a hand through his hair. he toys with the back of it, eyebrows jumping upward, before he lowers his hand to wiggle his fingers in greeting at eddie's cam on his monitor. he's already smitten, eddie's smile causing him to shift in his seat. ]

Say hi to tiktok, then!

[ a broad smile at his phone before he winks at his followers, the chat scrolling at incredible speed. a few thousand are in already, and it'll just grow. ]

You wouldn't have. You hate me.

[ a pout, then steve laughs again, picking up his controller connected to his computer. he waves it in front of the camera, clicking buttons wildly with both hands. ]

Look, I'm here to game, not listen to your sorry-ass excuses.

[ he's teasing, smiling at eddie, then back down at his phone. ]

Do you see this, chat? It's a controller for a game we haven't even started. If you're going to say outrageous shit, say it about Eddie.

( if steve is smitten, eddie can only be considered even more so as he catches sight of steve's smile, at the wink that's meant more to ham up for the camera than anything else, even though eddie pretends it's directed at him. )

( he grins, and it's far more genuine than any smile he has put on for the camera. it's exhilarating, doing this with steve, finally. as much as he would love to have some time to dick around in stardew valley without the watchful eyes of thousands of anonymous people on the internet, he can't deny that this is fun. )

[ one of steve's eyes close, his nose scrunched, as if he's thinking and thinking hard. he twists his lips, then glances to eddie in the monitor. he shrugs both shoulders, dumbfounded. he pouts at the phone camera, then at eddie. ]

I forgot what we said we'd play.

[ it's all for play, of course, his features turning soft as he releases another laugh, this time more of a giggle. he's the funniest guy he knows, a snicker exiting his nose as he watches eddie. ]

I'm just fucking with you. We're playing Fall Guys, guys. That's what we're doing.

[ steve wiggles his fingers at the camera again, watching some of the chat. a few people ask questions, and steve's mouth opens, one of them: so are you and eddie FLIRTING? written with heart emojis. steve grins, then glances up at eddie in the monitor again. ]

Got a question for you, Eddie, from Tiktok!

[ steve loads up the game, and while he leans up to do that, his grin spreads. he checks the loading screen, and soon the lobby appears. ]

Would you say we're flirting?

[ not like steve cares, but he knows he is. he smiles at eddie, fluttering his eyelashes, before he leans back in his chair, one leg up on the seat with him as he leans on it. socks are on his feet, white and clean, shorts adoring his bottom half. he watches eddie closely, lips still twitched upward. ]

Or am I just flirting with you?

[ he wiggles his eyebrows at the camera, tongue in his cheek. ]

Let's see what he says, chat.

( eddie rolls his eyes at steve's antics. he's so lucky he's cute are the words flitting through eddie's mind as he flips off the camera, aiming it at steve. )

Before anyone complains, no I was not flipping you off, chat, that was for Steve.

( he follows it up with a kiss that he blows to the camera. )

( he grins as he brings up fall guys, the familiar music coming in through his headphones so that his microphone won't pick it up and cause an echo. steve's question - or tiktok's - causes eddie to pause. they never really talked about what they were doing and whether they wanted the rest of the world in on it. their relationship is still so new and fresh, and a part of him wouldn't mind keeping it to himself for a while. and yet...

and yet. )

( the mods all simultaneously throw him under the bus with variations of "duh." )

[ eddie flips him off, and steve pouts. he looks at the phone camera, bottom lip poking out. he knows that eddie's just messing with him, and maybe he's messing with eddie back. it's fun, it feels good, and maybe, just maybe, eddie might be his type. it's the hair, the big brown eyes, the ringed fingers. he looks like a rockstar, a pitch-perfect culmination of what makes a person cool. sure, he's a nerd, and a big one - but steve feels oddly at ease when eddie's info-dumping about something steve doesn't have the faintest idea about.

he'd listen to eddie say anything, and that fogs his mind for a second, until eddie blows a kiss. he doesn't realize he's staring blankly for just a moment, but he covers it with a laugh. that didn't send his heart pitter-pattering or anything. this is just them playing fall guys. this isn't - ]

Look at this bullshit. Chat gets a kiss? But I have to deal with the finger?

[ the game loads them both in, and steve can't help but grin as they line up in the lobby. steve's guy has on a colorful skin, green and gold. he dances around, and steve gazes at eddie in the monitor. he watches him smile, that one lovely, perfect, beautiful smile, and steve can't help but smile back. it's a strange thing, seeing someone like eddie and becoming attached, but he remembers he has an audience to please.

the mods all agree in chat-scrolled unison, and steve's eyebrows waggle at eddie before they drop into the map. he immediately tries to push eddie off of the platform, a laugh exiting, one that's amused and bright. he grunts, pushing eddie's guy again, before they both have to make a run for qualifying. when steve crosses the line, he fistpumps, then leans in close to the phone camera. ]

Look at me, Tiktok.

[ he then turns his attention to his webcam near his computer, broadcasting simultaneously to twitch. ]

Look at me, Twitch.

[ another grin. ]

We're flirting. He admitted it. He wants this so bad.

( it isn't every day that eddie has to balance his on-camera persona with the one he usually uses with steve, which is primarily off-camera. they knew going into this that it would require a bit of finesse, but eddie never prepared himself for this. steve is a natural at navigating the minefield of parasocial relationships, and eddie?

god, it would be so easy to drop the act and admit that yes, he does genuinely want this so bad. but they have to perform, so eddie focuses instead on the game. his sprite is wearing a unicorn costume with a tutu, and the moment they drop into the first round, eddie acts scandalized at steve's antics. )

Imagine going after your own teammate.

( he shakes his head, all exaggerated movements. the timer starts, indicating that everyone has loaded in and the round is about to start. that's when eddie firmly focuses on the game, reluctantly putting thoughts of steve aside so he can ensure he qualifies as well.

while in the zone, eddie says little, his tongue sticking out of the corner of his mouth as he concentrates on running around obstacles and not falling to his doom to lose time while waiting to respawn. when he does cross the finish line, he lets out a breath of relief, barely hearing steve's words. barely, but still hearing them. )

Yeah, yeah, don't let it go to your head.

( notice that he didn't deny it says one chat member, which eddie notices as he's waiting for the next round to load. he smiles coyly but says nothing in response. )

[ steve laughs, giggles bubbling from his chest as he watches eddie poke his tongue out, fingers working to qualify. he's so charming like that, totally focused, the way he allows himself to slip into this persona of his - one that's good-natured, fun, compared to steve's wildman antics. he knows what his audience wants, so he plays the fool, pranking and having fun on what they see as a regular basis. this is different, however, steve watching eddie for a little longer than he should. his mouth parts as he licks his bottom lip, turning to his phone camera to smile, shaking it off. ]

This dude's taking his sweet ass time, right? C'mon, Tiktok. Give him the emotes. You know the ones.

[ suddenly, a spam of emotes - steve's head with his fingers pressed into an L against his forehead. he snorts, covering his eyes for a moment as he laughs. he lets his hand drop, hair falling across his brow, before he picks up his phone and lifts it to his webcam. ]

You might have qualified, but you still have to go against me. Go on - tell him, chat.

[ king steve emojis pop up in an even larger spam, the entire chat filling up. steve smiles, then gazes at eddie on his monitor. it's nothing but exhilaration. his smile melts into a grin, and steve's attention turns to the next round. he lifts his controller, then when it's time - he stays away from eddie, going in the opposite direction. he jumps through hoops, a grunt exiting as he makes a turn to get through another set. he turns in his chair, brows knitted. his lips part again, eyes widening as he jumps uphill. ]

Shit! No, no!

[ steve takes a small fall, then jumps back up again, the king steve emotes and hearts filling the chat on both tiktok and twitch. when steve finishes the round, he collapses against the back of his chair, panting a bit. ]

Did you guys see that?

( eddie might be the jokester, hamming it up for the camera, but steve is a natural at this. he commands the chat perfectly, something that shouldn't endear eddie to him, but it absolutely does. if eddie hadn't already practically fallen head over heels for the guy, his antics in this game would have sealed the deal. )

Oh, screw your emotes. We've got better ones, don't we, fam?

( on cue, the spam in eddie's chat takes a turn, with a cartoonish version of eddie making a kissy face. eddie gloats as he waits for the next round to start. they still have a few rounds to go before they truly need to worry about turning on each other, but for now, eddie is content to focus on making it to the next round. )

Damn, thought you were a goner for good.

( eddie shakes his head fondly as he claims enough rings to make it to the next round - a versus where they have to try and kick soccer balls into opposing goals. eddie cracks his knuckles and preens for the webcam. )

Alright, Steve, you got what it takes to destroy the other team? Offense or defense?

[ oh, screw your emotes. steve laughs, clear and airy, a sweet thing, teeth bared. he watches eddie's chat light up, kissy emojis filling it from top to bottom. steve smiles broader, brows jumping as he tilts his head. he glances at eddie through his webcam, tongue across one of his molars as he winks. ]

Look at those. They're so cute. Are they kissing me? Are you guys trying to flirt?

[ another laugh, and then when eddie asks his question, steve tilts his head again. his lips purse as he tries to come up with a plan before they drop into the round. the timer clicks down, and steve takes in a breath. ]

You run offense, I'll run defense.

[ he feels as if he can do it, eyes blinking up from thick lashes to stare at eddie again. it's a dreamy look, watching eddie smile into the camera. he's gorgeous, always has been, but right now, when he's enjoying himself - steve can't help but melt. he licks his bottom lip, knowing he's staring. the chat can't notice. ]

We got this. Just try to finish.

[ he smiles at his phone, then readies up for the next round. ]

Have a little faith, chat.

( while, yes, some of what this is happens to be hammed up for the cameras, there is a not insignificant portion of eddie that is just as delighted as he comes across on video. he slips into character so easily, but steve's voice, his eyes gazing, almost threatens to cause eddie to fuck up and ruin their chances of making it through to the next round. )

Oh, I'm gonna finish, alright.

( he pauses to wink at the camera before diving back in, getting control of the giant soccer ball and sending it hurtling towards their opponent's net. )

C'mon, just one more goal, we've got this!

( one of their other team members manages to keep control of the ball and eddie whoops as he watches it fly past their goalkeeper. )
