[ this is hissed, frustrated and sharp, as they huddle behind some handily placed waist-high cover. there's some freaky tholian web nonsense going on over on the other side of the lab where, presumably, the scientists are. if they are they can't move without getting shredded by said freaky tholian web nonsense, so the goal had become 'free the scientists and also don't die doing it' and is so far going extremely badly on the progress front.

for the most part, the tholians are stepping back from actively battling and are sending the vorcha in to fight for them like cannon fodder. jim is Not Happy About Any Of This, Actually. especially since they're separated from the rest of the away team and have no idea what their status is because comms are down. yet again.

but hey! at least garrus had extremely recently become tentatively, temporarily satisfied with the adjustments he'd been making to jim's kinetic shields. ]
