[Looking almost as rough as Bucky himself was another guy who had taken refuge at Denny's. He was on his fourth cup of coffee and still occasionally picking at the remnants of the sampler platter that was in front of him. Dex looked like he needed about three night's worth of sleep, a new change of clothes, and probably a bath at this point.

His head snapped up when he heard what the TV in the corner was saying. The old-fashioned model looked like it had been bolted to the wall since the nineties. "We're receiving word of a recent prison break. Word says that notorious mass murderer and former FBI agent Benjamin 'Dex' Poindexter has.."]

[Dex muttered to a passing waitress. She tried to make some excuse about her boss wanting it kept on all the time but he wasn't having any of it.]

[His voice was getting loud enough now that the few other patrons in the diner were looking over in his direction. Apparently, the waitress still wasn't moving fast enough for his tastes, because he picked up a butter knife and threw it at the TV almost without looking at his target. As usual, it hit the exact point he was aiming at, in this case the button to turn it off. What made it even more impressive is that the TV was halfway across the diner from where he was sitting at.]

[ Some days, you're not all there. For Yamada, that's a little more literal than most. His black and white tracksuit is visible, but in a cloud of fluffy white fog that spreads out from his limbs. It's steadily wafting through the Denny's, and coalesces into various shapes- include a hand that wraps around someone else's food or drink and drags it off to his table. He doesn't seem to have noticed, just chowing down with his other hand. ]

[ man, gotham is weird.

it’s not like spider-girl doesn’t deal with her fair share of criminals and supervillains, but gotham is something else entirely. she’s there for a long weekend, on the trail of some of martin li’s top lieutenants. turns out, negative hired some local goon for security, a giant crocodile…person…thing. whoever he was, he sniffed penny out easily, and she probably would’ve had to retreat if not for the timely intervention of batman.

(even though she’s seen the reports, even oracle has messaged her a few times, she still can’t believe the guy’s real.)

a fight, three against one, and alligator-face got knocked down and strung up. and then penny had to go through an extremely annoying lecture from batman about “making a mess of things” and “staying in her own city,” what did she know, what was she doing, bluh bluh. it felt like rogers, or a vice principal, except somehow even worse.

at least robin gave her a look that was almost sympathetic, and then pushed a card into her hand - just an email and number - saying it was secure.

that was two hours ago, and now she’s exhausted, munching on a huge pile of turkey bacon, pancakes, and hashbrowns, and sipping on a milkshake. and robin just sat down three booths away. maybe it’s the sleep deprivation, or wanting to get one over butt-man. whatever it is, she makes a rash, probably stupid decision. ]

So - [ she slides into tim’s booth, plate in one hand, milkshake in the other. penny’s not in her full spider-girl getup, but her hoodie’s up and she’s got a pair of sunglasses on. just looks like any other hungover college co-ed.

she drops the business card between them. ] Is he always that grumpy, or did I just piss in his cheerios or something?

"Eat. You need protein." His tone brooks little argument; at a glance he can tell Constantine is likely pushing himself too far and that toast and coffee hardly seems enough. D himself has... an entire glass of water. But his diet is rather more specific than Constantine's.
