the eighties and/or the nineties are back.
![]() 80s/90s MEME It's the 1980s! Or the 1990s! Whether based on Real Life or portrayals in media, your character is now either from the eighties/nineties or has been transported to them through whatever time travel nonsense you wanna make up. Or they're already from those time periods and people are gonna AU their characters in to match. Whatever you want! |

whoohoo!
[Shawn is nice though. Sunny's never really understood the unsavory reputation others seem to place on him. Sunny's found nothing to judge (and no one can be worse than him - what room does he have?).
[They've decided to meet at the park. It was a casual invitation - a simple, "Wanna hang out?" sort of thing. Should be alright, right? He's not sure. He's nervous, but that's always been true.
[He gets there first and sits on a swing, though doesn't swing it. Short and small, he looks much younger than seventeen. He's wearing a simple black t-shirt and jeans. There's a white eyepatch over where his right eye used to be. He's playing his Gameboy, perhaps glancing up a few too many times to see if Shawn is really going to show up. Maybe he should leave--
[Ah, but he sees the boy in the distance. He lifts his hand in a wave.]
\o/ sorry for the delay btw!!!
Whatever it is, Shawn would always say yes to a casual hang, especially at the park. He just didn't anticipate his Math teacher asking him 20 questions and thus delaying his cool, calm arrival. He waves as soon as he arrives, rushing over as fast as he can. Of course, this means he leans forward in front of the swings, with his hands over his knees as he catches his breath. )
I am so sorry about that, man. I swear, I thought I was right on time–
( He might be on time, or he might be late. Shawn hasn't checked his watch once since he left. He pauses, noting the Gameboy. Huh. Looks nicer than the one his best friend has. Shawn's never been able to afford one, but he can't help musing out loud– ) Hang on. That's the latest Gameboy, isn't it?
no rush I may be a bit slow too!
[He holds up the Gameboy, nodding. Sunny's mother is not all that present in his life, but sometimes that means he gets nice things like the newest Gameboy Color - the red one!
[He's a softspoken boy who used to stammer a lot more than he does now, but he tries to speak loud enough to be heard; luckily, the park is quiet today.]
I...just got it. Pokémon...Red too. [Who doesn't love a little turn-based combat?]
Wanna play?
thanks for the patience!!
Um, YES. ( He's loud and he knows it, which is why he coughs to clear his throat as he flops down next to Sunny. ) But uh, before I do, show me how this game works. You gotta catch 'em all, right?
( He speaks like he doesn't know a thing, mostly to save his own nerdy reputation. He's read the issues of Nintendo magazine back to back. He's got a vague idea. )

[He's not a big talker - visual learning will have to do. He demonstrates how to walk around the map (he hasn't made it very far yet). Into the tall grass he goes, and a wild Pokémon battle commences! He briefly demonstrates how to open up the attack options, then hands the Gameboy to Shawn.]
Weaken them...then...I'll show you how...to catch.

[The search for this book will be the death of her.
[Monika? Busy as ever. Sayori? Not feeling it today. Natsuki? Also not feeling it, but stress-baking, last Yuri checked. That will pay off later, but for now this leaves the most reclusive member of their four-person friend group to go around… talking to people. No one is less sure how this happened than Yuri herself.
[Still. It’s a nice day outside, and in Yuri’s book that means promise. Maybe the local delinquent with the nail bat is the worst place to start, but after several failed attempts to convince herself to walk up to ordinary strangers, Yuri has gotten it in her head it’s best to rip off the bandaid. Face certain rejection, and the rest will be easy in comparison, surely…?]
Um, excuse me… Aubrey, is it?
[God help her. She’s going to die.
[Still, Yuri keeps her stance straight, hands clasped behind her back. At least temporarily, she can appear composed. She’s even wearing a nonthreatening sweater (dead heat of summer? don’t know her); completely innocent and nonthreatening, see?]
I was… wondering if you could spare a moment.
OUGH OUGHHH I'M SO AFRAID "god help her she's going to die" lakdsjf
So, spit it out.
the yuri is more scared of you than you are of her
[You know? That’s further than Yuri thought she’d get. She’s used enough to cruel staes, anyway—not that it’s any less intimidating.
[Yuri clears her throat.]
I’m searching for a small book that my friend misplaced… about the size of a Japanese standard B5. [Common knowledge—] Ah, it fits snugly in your hands, no bigger. [She mimes holding open what a nerd might recognize as a small manga volume.] Perhaps you or someone you know could assist…?
I'M NOT AFRAID OF HER I'M AFRAID OF AUBREY
Let me ask you something. Do you have eyes in your skull? [Pronounced: she is holding a bat, and wearing her outfit. See any book?]
: )
I— Yes…?
[Pronounced: the connotation does not land.]

I don't have your book, genius.

[A small inhale, lips tight, followed by:]
I could determine [speaking a touch slowly] that the book was not on your immediate person, yes. If I saw someone with the book in their hands, I would ask them to return it.
[Impending sense of gravedigging—] Maybe someone you know could have also seen it.

[She lifts the bat from off her shoulder, spinning it around a bit in her hand. Threat? Not exactly. But if this girl thinks it's one, then fine.]
Look, loser. If the book is gone, the book is gone. Just go buy another one.
no subject
[Threat perceived, thank you! Yuri takes a step back, palms out. She ought to take the cue to leave. But one more thing:]
It’s… not exactly replaceable. [Categorically, she would not be going through this effort if it were.] The sentimental value is immense.
If you or anyone you know come upon a comic book of the described size, reads right to left, slightly waterlogged in the back and with creased pages for the first third or so… [Deep breath. Just getting it out, and then Yuri can go crawl in a corner for several hours. This delinquent-questioning business is easy…!] …it would be. Much, much appreciated. If it could be kept in good condition.
[Natsuki owes her so many cupcakes.]

Gee. You wanna write all that down for me? [And since this idiot can't seem to tell when someone is joking:] Don't bother.
[A beat, though, and then:] What's your homeroom, weirdo?
no subject
[There are two reasons Yuri thinks could be behind that question. One: she’s about to inflict violence and terror upon anyone within the room, at whichever hours the intruder sees fit. Two, and more kindly: A dropoff.
[Yuri can not provide the Literature Club’s sanctuary. Absolutely not. (Never mind that there will be posters about it in the halls, whenever Sayori gets around to finishing them.) She does, however, offer:]
503. [The music room, with the grand piano. Typically quiet, after hours. Let Monika handle it.]

[Aubrey says:] Pick somewhere else. [It doesn't sound like a suggestion.]

—Pardon?
[No, she heard, just:] Is there something wrong w— [Bad idea.] Never mind.
418.
[By the hall closet. Yuri keeps teas there.]

[Stubbornly, she turns away, sticking her nose up in the air.]
Fine. If I happen to find that dumb little book of yours, I'll bring it to 418. [A sideways glance.] Happy?
no subject
[Actually, that is a ridiculously stellar response, all considered. Yuri is going to get a good grade in delinquent negotiation (or at least a D+), a thing which is reasonable to want and, apparently, possible to achieve.]
That’s perfect. [The satisfied little smile that prompts is actually genuine. It’s easier with Aubrey’s back turned, maybe.] Thank you for your cooperation!
