You're a pop star, or a royal, or maybe even the last of your kind who will bring about the Earth's redemption. Whatever the case may be, you're in a position that may be a bit dicey if you attract the wrong kind of attention.

And you're a bodyguard, a soldier, a knight - a protector. Somehow, you've been roped into protecting this person. You'll be rewarded, of course. The work may be cut out for you, but just do your job, keep your head down, and it'll go smooth.

Except for when the two of you break the bounds of professionalism and feelings begin to flourish. Being in such close quarters may get you to see the other in a different light, and saving someone's life just may be the ultimate form of intimacy.

Could this be the real danger? To feel so strongly for the one you've sworn to protect...are you compromised?

How to Play

1. Comment with your character and preferences, being sure to put if you want to play the guard, the guarded, or either. Also, you may want to put if you prefer fluffy, angsty, or smutty interaction - or have no preference.
2. Comment to others.
3. There are no prompts, because there are so many potential options there could be a hundred. Feel free to play anything: the beginnings of the relationship, just meeting, getting used to each other/not getting along at first, the obligatory first time, a threat on the protected's life and how their protector responds, how the feelings between the two has changed the protection, etc. Your only limit is you.

Promise ✖ You told them you would take care of their lover, no matter what. You intend to follow through with that.
Close ✖ What are friends for if not taking care of unfinished business?
Debt Owed ✖ Kindness or favor has to be repaid, even if it's an investment in someone else.
Atonement ✖ Whether or not you particularly cared for the person who's gone is irrelevant. You just need to make up for past sins.
No Good ✖ You're taking care of the one left behind, but not out of good intentions. There may be ulterior motives here - no, there are definitely ulterior motives here. Or maybe this is the one good thing you've done in your life.
Guilt ✖ It's your fault that you're here and their significant other isn't. It's a paltry repayment.
Bearer of Bad News ✖ You can't blame them for wanting to shoot the messenger. You are telling them their lover is dead.
Related ✖ In days past, the living partner would be cared for by their dead partner's family. As a sibling or cousin of the deceased, you want to continue that tradition and take care of "family."
Wo/man Up ✖ Actually, their lover isn't dead, they're just dead to you, unable or unwilling to take care of business. You're stepping up.
Friends ✖ You were all friends before, so it's only natural for you to want to look out for them now.
Derisive ✖ ...this is the person they loved so much? This is who you're supposed to protect? Pathetic.
Resentful ✖ You can never forgive them. They're the reason your lover is dead, no matter how they treat you.
What They Saw in You ✖ You're beginning to see why someone would love them, how they'd want to give up their old ways and change. It's almost...nice.
Warming Up ✖ If you didn't get along at first, the claws are being put away now. It's better to at least be civil, isn't it?
Still in Danger ✖ Whatever killed one half of the pair is still out there, and the other half is in danger themselves.
Other Complications ✖ Not only did your mutual acquaintance leave behind a lover, but also children. You find yourself getting closer and closer to them, too, even if they aren't yours.
Compromised ✖ You can't look after them with a level head. You love them.
Can't Love Again ✖ You've lost before. You can't risk losing again, can you?
Out of the Dark ✖ One or both of you find yourselves in a hole. You can barely eat, hardly sleep, and depression has taken hold of you. Together, though, you may find the light and a way out of despair.
First Time ✖ Simply what it says. You two have taken your relationship to the next level.
Changed ✖ Before, you were bitter. Hard. Jaded. Now, helping someone - specifically, helping this person - has brought a new kind of joy into your life. You could get used to it. Easily and dangerously used to it, to be brutally honest. You shouldn't allow it.
Living Together ✖ You can take care of them more throughly if you're in the same place as they are, obviously.
Hidden Jealousy ✖ When their lover was alive, you were jealous of everything they had - including the fact that they had the person you're looking after now. Admitting this may make you feel like the most awful person in the world.
Secrets Revealed ✖ Eventually, your involvement with the death of their beloved will come out, and they will never be able to look at you the same way.
Dependent ✖ Replacing one unhealthy habit with another, you've become utterly dependent on your relationship with your caretaker, your guardian, your lover.
Won't Be a Replacement ✖ You can't help but feel as if you're merely serving as a stand in for what they've lost. It's understandable, yet you still can't allow yourself to be that and only that.
Not Really Gone ✖ What is dead should stay dead, but what if who you thought was gone isn't really out of the picture? Will they be happy with finding someone else so cozy and in love with their special someone?

[The guarded]

[ Info and prefs in journal. Can work as the bodyguard or the guarded. She's a powerful champion for her colony, but is also a highly dangerous prisoner who needs to be watched at all times. ]

(normally she had an idea of what to expect, to know what she might be dealing with. lately that didn't seem to be the case; as of now they had taken on a more special "sinner". though that term wasn't as appropriate given that the shackles didn't exactly work on her and there was only so much that could be done in response. nightingale had warned her often that she must be vigilant because it seemed that the response the top brass had in mind was something more unusual by circumstances.

it was to make their new prisoner, their new charge, into her bodyguard. a more permanent choice in comparison to the three who would usually take the role. then again, she did notice cinnabar's concern about it as well prior to her handing over her post to jingyi. at the start it was a simple accommodation; the real surprise was a gradual shift in the atmosphere as the weeks went on, although lucrece herself didn't react much. mainly because she wasn't sure what sort of change was going on, to give it attention can also be a bad call were it to be leaning toward resentment.

even if at the moment, they're both in the back of a 9th agency vehicle. a request had come about and it was to investigate some problems that had arisen in the eastside this time. syndicate was still stabilizing, but there was talk about more sinners flying under the radar and using the chaos to hide out in the east as a means of going unnoticed. something which was bad if they wished to maintain order as they expected. as their obedient "tool", they were wanting her to take care of it. otherwise it brings more eyes on her, more problems were paradeisos to be displeased.)

I'm afraid it's going to be quite boring, at least until something happens.

(from the sheer number of times she's been kidnapped, she's grown used to expecting something to slip by. although, lucrece has a feeling jingyi was told about those incidents. primarily the one from a few months ago after a certain black cat decided to hold her "hostage" as part of providing safety for someone unable to fight.)

[ Jingyi ending up here on a whim added more thrill in her monotonous life. It's not exactly a paradise city here, the grass is dull but the girls are pretty, so Jingyi can't find herself complaining. The choice to make her the Chief's protector got a smile out of the Archon, tickled at the bafflement of the leaders of this place in how to contain her unusual power. But they're wise to make her restraints be in the form of a beautiful woman, something Jingyi had always been weak to. ]

I'm torn whether to take your words as pessimism, or disappointment that there won't be anything eventful in our horizon.

[ Those incidents regarding the Chief did also get an amused chuckle out of Jingyi, finding the stories amusing and the Chief as someone she needs to actually try to protect. If only due to the fact she's so harmless and ridiculous. ]

I wouldn't say it's either, truly.

(with the sheer number of things she's gone through, the more quiet moments were her favored ones. just like now, where she finds herself right next to someone that is in her own right; attractive and interesting just like many others in her life. the relief of that quiet was well worth the price she pays throughout her rather "intriguing" job choice. she knows better than to assume herself above those around her, just as much as she did dislike using the shackles unless necessary.

which is what makes the two of them being paired more curious. this isn't completely prisoner and warden; equals might be a better term were she to think harder about it. but as of now, she isn't for the time being as she leans back into her seat.)

[ Despite her words and the smugness of her tone, Jingyi's expression softens to a quiet smile. She feels herself liking the Chief more, in a way that speaks to her protective urges. She doesn't consider the Chief as a friend yet, but she is sure to put in effort in actually keeping her safe. ]

I have heard of those stories. What an interesting life you live. So unlucky with regards to your safety, and yet so fortunate in the company you keep.
