Give a reason

WHY I'D DATE YOU
Yes or no won't cut it anymore. We need reasons.
▶ Comment with your character.
▶ You'll get...the reasons other characters would date/be with yours.

[Blinking...more blinking. This does not compute at all.]
Loads of reason--Because you can be with anyone else? Technically you're "cool" and I'm a "nerd" and that isn't supposed to happen according to High School logic?
[How the hell did they even get on this topic?!]

[ steve's eyebrows jump, and he stares at rey as if he's trying to see what she's thinking. when she explains, he laughs, ducking his chin. his eyes meet her shoes, then back to her gaze. he leans on the doorframe to their next class. the teacher isn't here yet, and students have ( mostly ) filed in. ]
Hey, I like you. I'm not going to fuck with high school logic, but... doesn't that count for something? That I like you and want to take you out?
[ he rips a piece of paper from her notebook, then clips a pen out of the spirals of it. he writes down 'do you like me' and places two boxes underneath. one says 'yes' and the other 'no'. he passes the pen back, then slaps the paper onto her books gently. ]
Or we can do it the old fashioned way.

Did she really want to take that chance?
She looked down at the slip of paper, ignoring the slight bit of pink on her cheeks. Some of the students were glancing their way, whispering and murmuring to each other. When she lifted her gaze to look at her crush--her very cute, and damn good friend of a crush.]
Harrington... [Rey began, doing her best to stay cool and not red in the face. Her eyes flickered back to the paper and picked up her pen. She turned away from him, trying to circle her answer in secret and quickly handed it back to him.
'Yes' was circled a few times. Her answer was clear as day.] You couldn't have brought this up at lunch? [When they could've talked about it a bit more and not be at the mercy of the teacher and some boring lecture?
It would only be a matter of time before the teacher came in. Maybe they were running late and they'd get a sub for the day?] And...I like you too. [As a friend, as something more than a friend.]

[ he says it in the same tone, then smiles. it's big and broad and teasing, before he winks at rey. still leaning on the doorjamb ( the teacher should be here any time now... ) ]
I didn't bring it up at lunch because I wanted to bring up when I saw you. [ another bright smile, and as he watches her turn around with the note, it only grows into something wicked, flirtatious. when he gets the note back, his stomach does a flip, and he glances up from dark eyelashes to rey. score. he raises the note and kisses it, then pockets it in his jacket. ]
Was that so hard, huh? C'mon, stop holding me up for class.
[ with that, he puts an arm around rey's shoulders and escorts her into class with his sunglasses pulled down. the teacher enters almost instantly, closing the door. when they utter: nice to see you, mr. harrington, taking this as seriously as possible. steve comes back with: ]
Yeah, yeah. I have a date tonight.

I'm not the one holding you up. [The brunette muttered, putting her pen back into the spiral binder of her notebook. Her heart was starting to pound in her chest. Their friendship was evolving and things would change. For the better, she told herself.
And of course, she wanted to go into the classroom and slink off into the back. But no, Steve put his arm around her shoulder, announcing to their whole class they were no longer just friends. If the ground could swallow her whole, that would be great.
But nope, she took a seat next to Steve (because that's where she always sat not just because of him asking her out).]
I'm never going to hear the end of this... [Rey muttered to herself, placing her books and notebooks down. People were smirking, clapping and she swore she heard a classmate whisper, "nice job, Johnson."
Wait a moment--DATE?! TONIGHT?! ]
Steve... [She shot him a look, bordering on a glare. Damnit, he didn't ask if she was free tonight!
"Do you have something to tell the class, Ms. Johnson?" The teacher asked, taking out some papers from their bag. Rey looked up and shook her head no.] Sorry, Sir. I don't.
[Heaven help her with getting through this class!]

Yes, tonight. I'll pick you up at seven. I was thinking - dinner, movies, ice cream?
[ and maybe a kiss. he hopes a kiss. the teacher interjects, glaring at both rey and steve, and steve raises his hands in mock-surrender, but not before waggling his eyebrows once at rey. ]
Hey, can't I be happy, Miss Carlisle? I'm celebrating.
[ the teacher is not amused: thank you, mr. harrington. i'm sure you can celebrate on your own time. for now, keep it down and pay attention.
steve rolls his eyes, a quick flutter of eyelashes, but he sits up, following instructions. he catches another gaze at rey. he can't stop looking at her. ]

I would be fine with any one of those things. [He didn’t need to do all three! Jesus, they were going to have a long talk at lunch.
But maybe there could be a kiss or kisses, of both played their cards right.
First, they would have to get through class. Miss Carlisle wasn’t taking Steve’s remarks too kindly. Her pointed stare was directed at him and all Rey could do was open her notebook and be prepared to jot down notes.
She felt Steve’s gaze on her, making her fidget in her seat. The blush on her face was still there. The brunette glanced at the other and gestured for him to pay attention.
There was some snickering and chuckling from their classmates. Miss Carlisle didn’t appreciate that either and announced a pop quiz, earning a groan from the class. ]

We're doing all three. What do you want to see tonight? Back to the Future is playing.
[ a good movie, good food, rey. what else could he ask for. when miss carlise makes to turn around, steve shoots up in his seat, giving her an innocent, harrington-bright grin. a few people giggle, and steve picks up his pencil, twirling it between his fingers. ]

Doing all three is expensive. [She had to emphasize the last part as she didn't expect Steve to pay for everything. Or if he was (and she would fight him on it) then it was still a lot to cover.
Miss Carlise doesn't look too pleased with Steve, but she turns around to continue writing on the blackboard.]
The movie doesn't matter, Steve--[Rey whispered only to stop once Miss Carlise turned around again to hand out the test papers. Great. Just great.]

as he takes his paper from miss carlisle, grin still intact, he chances a glance at rey. miss carlisle steps to the side, blocking the view. steve the sighs from his chest, placing the paper down and lifting his pencil. he tips it back and forth quick, then begins to answer the questions. he doesn't remember half of what the book they were supposed to be reading is about. he knows it's about two cities - a tale of them. he writes in his essay, which is less than a paragraph, before checking off a few multiple choices. ]
Expensive doesn't matter.
[ he's whispering this, head turned toward rey, but chin ducked. miss carlisle has stepped out of the door, and as steve observes this, his voice raises an octave. ]
Did you not think I'd pay for it? C'mon.

She tried her best to focus on the quiz, quickly zipping through the multiple answers with confidence then spent more of her time on the essay. She wanted to make sure she had locked in the main themes of the novel. The young woman was nearly done with her essay when she heard Steve's voice cut through.
Expensive didn't matter?! Was the man insane?! Of course it mattered! She nearly dropped her pencil, whipping her head to look at Steve with wide eyes. She mouthed to him 'Are you serious?!' as to not catch any attention from their teacher.
Maybe Steve would send her to hospital from shock...]
Uh, no. we're splitting it. [She whispered back, momentarily forgetting about her essay as she looked more over at Steve.] You're not paying for everything, Harrington. [Like hell she'd let him.] Pick two out of the three. And--!!
[Her voice cut off seeing Miss Carlisle step back inside. Silently cursing to herself, she turned her eyes back to her own paper, finishing up her essay as quickly as she could before time was called.]
