Ancient Gods AU

gods. demigods. heroes. mortals.

Characters can be gods, demigods, heroes, ordinary mortals, or maybe another mythological creature. Below are some options to choose from but you are free to come up with your own roles and scenarios.

While the choices below are based on Ancient Greek mythology, you can get inspiration from other myths (Nordic, Egyptian, etc). The setting can be ancient times when the religion of the gods is still active and strong or in modern times when old beliefs have become myth. Whatever works best for you.

Please do not leave a blank comment! This is a very broad meme and ideally, you'll already have an idea of what you want to do. While you don't have to establish a scenario, a little bit of information about your character's role in the AU will give others something to work with when they tag you since the possibilities can be endless.

ROLES
I. God/Goddess. You are an ancient deity associated with one or several things. You fight with each other and mingle with mortals. The hero may or may not be your ally.
II. Demigod. Half god and half mortal, the circumstances of your birth may have left you with a special gift (or curse). Perhaps you help your godly parent or you are content to live among mortals.
III. Hero. You are a hero of epics. You have received the blessing of a god or goddess to go on a great adventure. Arm yourself because it will not be easy.
IV. Mortal. You are a normal mortal. Or are you? Maybe you're incredibly beautiful or have a great talent. Whatever it is, beware of the gods because just as they created you, and they will not hesitate to put you in your place.
V. Other. You are a nymph, a satyr, centaur, etc.

SCENARIOS
I. Mingling with mortals. You are a god or goddess that has decided to grace the mortals with your presence (in disguise or not). Perhaps
II. Epic. You are engaging on an epic adventure for your city state. Pray to the gods for their blessing, learn from the mistakes of past heroes, and beware.
III. Wrath of the gods. The gods do not always get along with those below them. Perhaps someone was too beautiful or boasted a little too loudly that they were better than the gods. Either way, it's time for someone to learn their lesson. Or maybe the problem isn't a mortal at all but another god.
IV. Duties. Everyone has their role to play whether you are a mortal preparing to honor the gods before harvest or you are a god or minor deity using your powers to bring on the next day.
V. Other. There are many myths to draw inspiration from so feel free to great your own scenarios.

[You can decide if she's a goddess or a demi-god depending on if Sif or Jane is her mother - can play her either way. She can also be stripped of her immortality and be made a mortal or a hero.]

[Fire-haired Billy Harris is a bastard child of Apollo. Trained by Euterpe, the Muse of song, his voice is so beautiful that it ensnares the hearts and minds of anyone who hears it. Of course like most demigods he's rather prideful...and that's probably going to get him into trouble one day.]

[Andrew Carter, for his passion and courage, has been blessed by the god Kresnik. Fire does not harm him, and at will he may conjure it to his hands. His feet have been transformed into horse hooves as a physical sign of his blessed status, which is not something he has a particular problem with. It saves on shoes.]

[A hero of Artemis, goddess of the hunt, Veronica is a powerful swordmistress who travels the lands hunting the most dangerous game.

And that sometimes includes people.]

"Shit shit shit!" Reno repeated to himself as he ran through the forest, dodging branches and leaping over brush. Those were the wrong women to hit on, and now one was after him. But how was he supposed to know they were acolytes of Artemis?

Well, they were obviously huntresses. And their tattoos might have given it away.

And the fact that they told him as much.

"Shit!"

Seriously, why did this guy think it was a good idea to try that? If her clothes didn't give it away, her attitude certainly should have. So now they had this cat and mouse thing going on. She wasn't actually going to kill him, maybe just scaring him enough will do.

Veronica races after Reno, pulls out a throwing knife and hurls it in his general direction.

The knife buries itself half-deep into a tree mere inches from his head. "Yee!"

It took him by such surprise, he didn't see the fallen log ahead of him and he tripped, falling flat.

Ever triumphant, the mighty huntress walks over to her panicky prey. She pulls out a broadsword and points it lightly at Reno.

"You know, it's really not that fun when you mess up so early."

"Uck." Reno gulped and stopped trying to scramble back once he had a blade at his throat. "Y-yeah, well, y'know, it's a li'l harder when someone's throwin' knives at ya."

[Reno AU is a demigod, son of Dionysus. He'll be mingling around mortals to partake in the virgins and imbibe the self-blessed wine. In no particular order.]

{Ana is the mortal incarnation of the Greek minor Goddess, Hestia, who is the goddess of the hearth, fireside, family, and home. Was one of the Olympians until she gave up her throne on for Dionysus, occupies fire on Olympus.

When the Gods and Goddess of Ancient Greece had stopped being worshiped as the rightful Gods of the Greeks? Each and everyone one of those Gods, also the Titans, had become dormant and turned into stone on Mount Olympus. They had watched the lives of the people that they had created through cold, dead, stony eyes.

It wasn't until more modern times, with the advent of more modern worship by Pagans and the Wiccans, that they were all able to break free of their stone encasing and managed to leave Mount Olympus, and were actually able to walk among their newest worshipers as mortals themselves. Other pantheons also were seen breaking free of their bonds and had come to Earth as well, just like the Grecian Gods had, all of them now living their lives as if they were mortals. This new religious worship was able to breath new life into all of them and gave them new reasons to be.}
