Alright, Doc. Indulge me, then. If I just left the IPC, where would I go?
Whether my shackles are self-imposed or not, as you suggest, at least I have a roof to sleep under and a warm bed. I don't have to worry about food, and I come back home to three loud little critters that are happy to see me.

( he's... not gonna mention the part of wanting someone to rescue him, though. maybe it's true. maybe it's not. mostly hopeless. )

So conformity's what you value the most. Even though you're flashy and gaudy, you're actually humble, is what you're saying.

“Good enough” is good enough for you, as it were. You have neither the means nor the imagination to think of a life outside the IPC, or you're so noble you wish to dedicate your entire life to them since you feel indebted to them. Which one is it?

Are those the only options?
Tell me instead, Doctor, before I answer you. If someone like me has the means and the knowledge to leave the IPC, then what does it say about you? Aren't you the same? The Intelligentsia Guild might be its own thing, but you're still funded by the company, and we've worked together multiple times.

It's nothing so black and white. Topaz and Jade are here. You are too. Doesn't it make sense that I would want to stay, despite everything else?
There's more to surviving than just finding somewhere safe.
