The People Farm
Life as it is right now no longer exists. Perhaps aliens or superior beings from another dimension took over the planet. Or all the computers turned on humanity and became the dominant species. Maybe vampires grew tired of hiding in shadows and proved just how much stronger they really are.
Whatever the cause, the effect is the same: humans are no longer in charge and have been relegated to the status of livestock. It could be for blood, for labor, for souls, or for meat, but in the end? You're still only here to be useful, and once you aren't it's time to be culled.
Welcome to the farm.
HOW IT WORKS:
♦ Several suggested options are listed below, so you can choose one or come up with your own setting. Maybe your character was also altered or enhanced in some way to be more productive or useful?
♦ Leave a comment with your character's name and fandom in the subject, and either list your preferences or set a scene. Is your character the farmer or the livestock? Is the scene between two people in the pens, two farmers comparing stock, a farmer selecting his dinner, or something else?
♦ Tag another character. If they haven't already selected an option, pick one.
♦ Play out the results.
♦ Have fun!
1) ENERGY SOURCE: Humans are needed for power. They generate electricity or mana, they run on hamster wheels to power lights, their emotional energy counters entropy, etc.
2) FOOD SUPPLY: Humans are kept to supply meat for carnivores, blood for vampires, or brains for zombies.
3) LABOR: Humans pull the plows or wagons, clean the houses, produce goods in factories, or do construction work.
4) PETS: Caged humans make ornamental pets, or are kept for companionship or entertainment, like dogs that are easier to potty train.
5) RESOURCE PRODUCTION: Humans are kept to produce hair, skin, milk, organs, or other useful resources.
6) WARFARE: When fighting a war it's always preferable to have grunts to do the dying for you. And gladiator fights between wars are so entertaining.
Within each of these categories are any number of possible scenarios, such as livestock breeding, culling the weak, human resistance groups trying to free captives, and so on. And, as mentioned above, livestock could be enhanced to be more useful -given hormones to produce more hair or milk, encouraged to put on more flesh for meat production, enhanced to be better fighters, or even given animalistic characteristics.

1-
[The vampires had blood farms, where humans were hooked up and drained with brisk efficiency to produce sustenance for the new dominant species, but the upper classes were never satisfied with mere mass-produced, packaged blood. For the elite there were smaller farms where humans were kept and selected by vampires who wanted a live, fresh feed.
Yukiko has just returned after her last rotation out, where she had been rested and pampered and fed, encouraged to let her blood replenish without any artificial encouragement. And now she waits, sitting in the glass-walled holding cell of the "restaurant" and ready to be selected by any visiting guest. It was, she noted with a hint of bitter humor, like being a lobster in a tank, back in the days before the overthrow.]
2-
[It has only been a year since everything had changed, but Yukiko can barely remember her old life, her friends and how happy she had been. Part of it is the drugs they put into her food, drugs to encourage her hair to grow fast and thick, drugs to encourage milk production, so she can be shorn and milked regularly like the sheep they think her to be. But part of it, she suspects, has to do with how easy it is for days to blur together in the featureless stall in which she now lives, never leaving or seeing the sun.]
3-
[Her owner was, she'd heard, insistent that everything on his estate be both functional and attractive, even down to the beasts that pulled his carriage. And so he'd had a pair of humans altered, turned into half-horse hybrids - Yukiko and another black-haired girl became a matched set of mares, so he could make a good show as they trotted down the lane.]
4-
[Yukiko often reminds herself off how lucky she is not to be down in the livestock pens, being fattened up for slaughter. At least she's alive and treated well, though there's always the lingering fear that might not last. But relief cannot quite erase the humiliation of being treated like the pet she is, collared and cosseted and petted and talked to like she has the mental capacity of a brain-damaged slug.]
ooc: pet-yukiko could look like herself or be altered to have cat or dog features.
5-
[They had learned about Persona users during the invasion, and in an attempt to gain those skills they had set up a carefully structured breeding program. Unfortunately Yukiko had proved barren, despite all their efforts and fertility drugs, and had been discarded to the livestock pens with the other, ordinary humans, to be fattened for slaughter.]

Minako Aino | Sailor Moon
Re: Minako Aino | Sailor Moon
No. It was a full-scale invasion, from a previously unknown world lying parallel to Earth. One at the hands of practiced and ruthless - heartless - beings, who powered their way in... not ones seeking to destroy humanity, but to harvest it.
No, to harvest what lay within it. The energy from their souls themselves - from their emotions, their hearts.
This is a grim facility, here, where individuals are penned and caged prior to - processing. Something that the details of have never reached human ears, though dark rumours exist. What do they do to the poor people they take? Along this corridor, there's nothing but dull grey and dusty white, broken neon lights, and locked, barred doors.
A young man - well, a being that looks like a young man - makes his way down the corridor, stopping at each cage in turn to look at the occupant, scanning them both visually and with a handheld reader. Some, he'll reach in to brand, some he'll ignore past that. He's muttering to himself as he goes...]
Mmm... not quite. Nah. No way... huh, this one could work. ... not a trace of it. Geez, how useless a shipment did we even get? Just my luck, getting stuck with a bunch of rejects...
[This is not his day, to say the least. As he reaches one stall in particular, though, he stops - a smile works his way onto his face as he looks at the readings.]
Heh. Maybe not. Looks like we've got a success story here after all...
((OOC: Alright. Does this work for you? Also. Got any preferences for what's to be done with her? Any ideas? Considering things like 'wiring viciously into the soul-matrix, nasty medical whatever as preparation', Axel here being a 'trainee technician' type. After all, a Senshi of Love should be good for emotion-juice. ;)
... also as a warning, my internet connection is ten kinds of erratic at the moment.))

Minako had managed to evade capture for a while, but even senshi can feel fatigue, and it finally caught up with her. Now powerless and caged, shipped around like a mindless cow, she's stuck in some...place. Really, she has no idea of what lies in store, but between the look of it and the rumors whispered between the cages, she's pretty sure she doesn't want to.
Up until the man appeared she'd been poking and prodding at the bars, hoping to find some kind of weak place or latch that hadn't quite been fastened, but now she's pretending not to pay attention to him. That only lasts, though, until he stops by her and seems pleased - at that point she tenses, automatically wary.]
[ooc: that sounds good to me! she'd be an excellent source of emotion-juice, it's true, especially when backed by senshi powers. all that love and justice and whatnot...]

It wasn't that he was having second thoughts or remorse, per se. He always had been one to look out for himself first. But now that it was done and the majority of the humans had been enslaved, he wondered what the inevitable price for his betrayal would be. So far this man had been true to his word, but Reno knew better than to let his guard down.

4 with AU stuff to explain amestrian survivors? also whoops. run on sentences |D
Though part of her wished she wasn't. She's tried to flee with Ling and the rest of them, but she'd been captured. She wasn't sure why she was alive still.
She didn't want to know to be perfectly honest.
From her vantage point in the former Central Headquarters - a room that was more a cell but a vast improvement over the last cell she'd been kept in with other Amestrian survivors (though she was well aware there were traitors free. She didnlt know how many, though) - Central was lifeless and the stench of rotting flesh still hung in the air, but as Father - 'god' - took control of more lands, people started to trickle in. Work crews, prisoners really, who started to clean the streets. She supposed in this new world even the homunculus needed humans to carry out tasks.
It didn't explain why she was alive, given they'd killed Roy and she had been his right hand soldier.
She supposed she'd find out soon enough.
She looked away from the barred window, unable to stomach watching the slow progress down below.
All the AU!

well then. 2+4, was it?
And now he was captive, unable to remember just how long it had been. When you were stuck somewhere with no natural light, that wasn't so hard, but it had to have been a while. His hair had grown, bangs obscuring his eyes, tickling his cheeks. ]

Jack Harkness for John Hart <3
No, he'd rather spend the rest of the day blaming this on John Hart, just across from him in this barn-like cell. Everything was going fine, minus that mess with Miracle Day and oh, the 456, since Hart left to explore the world but now that he's back, they seem to be in trouble.
Again.
"And I even spent some time with the Remuloids." They usually ate parts of their mates for pleasure during courtship. That might be one kink he doesn't like.
no subject
And hey, if anyone should be worried here, it should be the very killable one. Himself. Not Mr Indestructible, with his unstoppable living abilities and stunning good looks. Most people, shockingly, wouldn't bounce back from being eaten.
"Look, it's not entirely my fault. I just got the co-ordinates off a friend, they didn't exactly mention this part of the trip. Said it'd be fun, bit of a laugh. I tell you, never trust a Hsert. Goo-faced bastards always seem to fuck me over one way or another."
And no, not in the good way. In the very annoying and unfortunate way that generally leads to swift and horrible death.

Vampires, humanity calls them; It's... part truth. Blood happened to be a significant food group, along with energy/emotions, and other foods, including meat. Any meat, and with humans being the most numerous animal on the planet, it was only natural to make use of that resource, along with anything else they could.
Over the last few centuries, they'd adapted humanity to suit their needs, too.
But, that wasn't why she was here today, down in the livestock pens near the slaughter house. No. Zoey was looking for the telltale signs of pets sent here to die. She'd seen a few, but. They were broken wrecks; death would be a blessing for them - and their emotions had the bitter taste of hatred, and so she'd moved on. It was frustrating, but hopefully, this place would yield something that caught her attention.
Something did. Out of the corner of her eye, and she detoured towards it, eyes widening when she recognised the Seal.
Here, Hizashi; have a curious alien coming closer. Who may not speak Japanese very well but she's going to try.] Come closer.
no subject
Until someone stops at his cage, that is, and starts speaking to him. One of the Masters, as Hizashi has learned to think of them--his pedigree is very seldom used for something as base as food, after all. Why should they associate their owners with being eaten, unless they disgrace themselves? His brows furrow in confusion as he looks up at her, then around at his cage. The words are strange, just foreign enough to make him stumble over meaning; he recognizes (or at least thinks he recognizes) only the word 'go'. Go where? The cages aren't much larger than they need to be to let him lie down, eat, and go to the bathroom separately.
He only speaks quietly, once he does, hesitant to upset her but knowing some response must be expected.]
There's nowhere to go.
