You Should Have Knocked

So everyone has had this moment in their life, the one where they were so impatient or absentminded, they went flinging a door open when they really shouldn't have. Sometimes it's not your fault, how could you know your housemate and his girlfriend were having sex on the kitchen table!? Other times someone was in the bathroom and failed to close the door the whole way, again not your fault. Sometimes they put up several signs saying "Please don't enter, I'm very naked right now" and you just ignore them because who would have that many signs for that?

Anyway, that's this meme. You've just walked in on something you shouldn't have seen, and onto the rules and set-up.

Rules
A. Post with the standard Character/Fandom/Preferences set-up as is standard with memes nowadays. You are the one walking in on someone.
B. Someone responds by rolling 1-12 on the RNG and sets-up what the entry poster walks in on. You can also set-up a scene not on the list below, or cut the RNG short based on what you don't want to do.
C. Items 1-7 are easily G-rated unless you go out of your way to make them rated higher. 8-10 are more R-rated, but there is wiggle room for playing the crack and awkward up instead of making it smutty. 11 and 12 are kinda hard not to have a little bit smutty given the settings.
D. Tag around, have fun with it! The embarrassment will pass... in theory.

01. Talking to Yourself - Sometimes to work through a problem, you just have to talk it out. Or, in other instances, you need practice before you say something to someone. Whatever the case, you were in the middle of talking something out to yourself that you probably didn't want heard by the person who walked in on you. Oops.

02. Wearing an Embarrassing Outfit - Everyone has some bit of clothing they love but would be really awkward to be found in, ask J. Edgar Hoover! Be it drag, or cosplay, that hat your mother knit for you with her own two hands. The ugly sweater your girlfriend gave you, or a uniform for the Next Generation era Star Trek... your secret's out now.

03. Rocking Out - Everyone loves music, but sometimes you love music others won't understand. Or, you like music they'd understand, but your dancing leaves something to be desired. Or your dancing is fine if you would just stop air guitaring windmills on the bed. Whatever the case is, you've been spotted now.

04. Watching Something - Much like an embarrassing outfit, or awkward dancing, there's your guilty pleasure. Maybe you just have a love for action films, or you've gotten hooked on a soap opera, maybe you'll just watch any film with Nick Cage in it. Whatever it is, you're about to be judged by the entertainment you love. If you don't want to put a show here, you can replace it with reading a book, comic book, or any other bit of of non-music entertainment.

05. In the Middle of Something - Some people collect stamps, others little ceramic figurines, you might have a complete collection of beanie babies. Whatever your hobby, you keep it well out of sight of your friends because they just won't understand it. Better come up with a good explanation now.

06. It was Supposed to be a Surprise - You had something you were going to give your friend as soon as it was ready. Birthday gift, Christmas, anniversary? Maybe no reason at all, the point is you're working on it away from them and SURPRISE, there they are! Better hide the evidence now or come clean and explain what's going on.

07. On the Phone - Ever had an awkward phone call overheard from only your side. Well, it gets complicated sometimes when that happens. Could be a doctor, a parent, a college friend, whatever it is the topic sounds very awkward from only your side of the street. Cue 'that isn't what it sounds like' when you find your eavesdropper. Bonus points if you want something a little less G-rated, make it phone sex heard from only your side.

08. In a Racy Outfit - This isn't exactly an outfit embarrassing on its own, just they might not be the person you want to see you in a leopard print G-string. Or you're trying on the skimpiest of lingerie and inspecting yourself in the mirror. Whatever your pleasure, it's about to be shared with an audience. If you want to take things in a different direction, try setting the scene asleep in said outfit.

09. In no Outfit at All - The next door neighbor to the previous option, sometimes less is more. In this case, less clothing is more awkward. Maybe you're looking yourself over for new battle scars, you might be trying new sexy poses for the person you like, maybe you're getting in or out of the shower/bath. Or, like above, you could just like sleeping au natural. Either way, you're giving somebody an eyeful today.

10. Watching Something Else - Be it a raunchy sexcapade, something attempting to have a plot, an art film, or a home movie from that trip to Cancun. Some people like to watch smut. Of course, some people should lock their door when they do such things. Whatever your taste in brown paper bag theater, you're about to share it with the class. If you don't feel like going that way, you can be caught with a skin mag or some trashy smut novel instead.

11. In the Middle of Something Completely Different - Masturbation, its that thing everyone does but nobody talks about. You also definitely don't walk in on someone doing it. Well, too bad, you just did.

12. Was left Hanging - So you've just walked in on someone who was having some sort of kinky bondage episode... but their partner has left them there, all tied up and on the bed. Whatever will you do with this.

"What is it?" He still didn't let go completely, staring down at him. He was waiting to see if Stiles would lie to him or not, ears perked to hear the telltale thump of a lie.

"Nothing." Which wasn't a lie. All he'd asked of Derek was for it to not be a joke, and it hadn't been. He hadn't pushed Stiles away, just done what he'd needed to. Which didn't need to mean anything. "It's nothing."

"You're lying." He felt a like it was almost cruel to point it out with the way Stiles was looking at him, but he didn't feel like letting it slide. "What is it?"

He couldn't wrap his head around why Derek was pressing him for a different answer. He hadn't thought he was lying, not really. Maybe for him it kind of meant everything, but that didn't mean that that was what it was. "Nothing. Derek. It's nothing."

"Still lying." His voice lowered and he tightened his hold on Stiles, pulling him back to where he'd been. "Tell me." Because like a dog with a bone (ha ha) he wasn't going to give this up.

"Derek," Stiles said, hating the way his voice broke on his name. It wasn't fair, that Derek was trying to make him say it. He'd seen his computer. Seen how quickly Stiles had caved, even though he knew what a terrible idea this was. Because, even if it was just for a fleeting moment, he'd wanted this. "You know."

"Maybe I want to hear you say it." His head tipped down, bringing his mouth close to the side of Stiles' forehead. "Maybe I don't know."

It was terrifying how, with one simple, intimate gesture, Stiles would crumble. Giving in to Derek's insistence. That Derek had that much power over him. "Everything. It's everything."

He could have asked why. He didn't know how Stiles could think anything other than evil hating thoughts towards him, but he heard the truth in that comment, head turning to brush lips against his temple. "Okay."

Stiles couldn't pinpoint exactly when he'd started seeing Derek differently. It was a gradual change, one that had crept up on him with realisation one night, and then he'd started looking a little closer at him. Lingering that little bit longer.

He felt steadier on his feet now, and slipped from Derek's arms, moving around him so he could grab a change of underwear and pants. "I'll be five minutes."

"Okay," he repeated, nodding as he turned to watch Stiles as he let him go. He didn't know what he expected, didn't know if he wanted some kind of break down or explanation or if he'd actually thought Stiles would just stonewall him or not, but he'd gotten an admission and he'd have to be satisfied with that.

For now.

He picked out the first pair of sweats and boxers that he could get his hands on, heading almost immediately to the bathroom as soon as he had them. He could be an adult about this whole thing. Derek might have been able to get him to admit that there was more there on Stiles' part, but that didn't mean he had to make a big deal out of it. He'd said, he wasn't going to make this into something it wasn't. And it wasn't anything but a favor, and now Stiles was going to give Derek one in return by helping him with whatever he'd come over for in the first place.

He cleaned himself down quickly, switching out his underwear and jeans for the clothes he'd picked out, before coming back to the room. He dumped them into the hamper near the door, making a note to put some washing to go after Derek had left. "So. What did you need? Because you never really answered me the last few times I asked."

Derek could still smell Stiles' come on the clothes when they were dumped in the hamper. He could smell it on his finger where he'd touched him. It was surprisingly distracting and it took a moment for him to look up at Stiles, playing back the question in his head. Right. The reason he was here. "I wanted you to do some research on druid rituals. See if maybe you could figure out what the darach is trying to do with whatever power its gaining from the sacrifices."

Not having the heightened senses of a werewolf, Stiles didn't realise that Derek would still be able to smell that, or that it would be distracting. He huffed when he heard the question, moving over to his desk, and pushing some of the paper that had piled up there into something neater. There were countless printouts of Druid rituals. Their beliefs, practices, as much about their sacrifices as possible. There was a lot, all cross referenced, and numbered, and color coded. Stiles hadn't been sleeping well.

"You're about two weeks to late for that," he said, holding out some of his most recent findings. "Uh. That's the newest stuff."

Derek snapped his gaze back from where it had wandered over to the hamper, coming over to Stiles to look at the handouts. He looked them over, eyes scanning the information quickly. "Is this all of it? Do you have copies?"

Because he'd be taking these, thank you, Stiles.

"Uh." He curled his fingers around Derek's wrist, so he could lower them, trying to remember if this was something he was a copy of. It was covered in handwritten notes, and he couldn't remember having written those up or not. Everything had been starting to merge together into one sleepless haze.

"Not of that one. There's- fuck. There's a lot, okay. I can type it up tonight or something."

The touch to his wrist wasn't a bad thing, but it heightened his already almost painful awareness of Stiles. The little 'assistance' he'd offered hadn't left him unaffected and Stiles touching him brought that back with painful clarity.

He looked up at the teen, noticing the tiredness in the way he spoke. "Have you been getting any sleep?" It might also have been a reason why he'd had a hard time getting himself off.

"As much as I need," Stiles said, which wasn't exactly truthful, but wasn't a lie either. He was mostly catching a nap here and there, snatches of sleep when he could barely function any more. No one had really noticed, so he'd kind of played up on that, pushing himself as much as he could to get research done on the Darach, before anyone else got hurt.

He hadn't even noticed that Derek was affected, stile holding onto his wrist, and he'd read over the same line three times already.

Derek was watching Stiles read over the paper in his hand, nostrils flaring as he picked up the lingering scent of arousal paired with the residue of Stiles' enjoyment not that far away. His eyes wandered down to Stiles' mouth, watching the way it moved when he spoke. "You should get more."

"Maybe when people stop showing up dead," he quipped. He owed it to Heather to figure out just who or what had ended her life. He finally let go of Derek's wrist, thumb brushing right against his pulse point. It was a little faster than he was expecting it to be, but figured that was mostly down to werewolf physiology.

He actually swayed in towards Stiles when he slid his hand along his wrist as he let it go, lids half closing as he fought against the urge to see if that mouth was as soft as it looked. He pulled himself back, wondering what had gotten into him. It wasn't like he'd never been around teenage boys during or after the act before. So why was he so fixated on Stiles all of a sudden? "No one's dead now. Take a nap."

Stiles was completely oblivious to the internal battle Derek was having with himself. But the second those words crossed his lips, he could feel his hackles rising, as he put a little distance between them. Derek hadn't meant any harm by it, he knew, but it cut him in just the right way to get a reaction. "She's still dead."

Stiles' anger pulled him back a bit, let him crawl back into himself and away from potentially doing something they both might regret. "They all are. And they're not going anywhere. You plan on joining her soon?"

He hadn't really given himself the chance to grieve for Heather yet. Even in the moments after seeing her lying there, motionless in the hospital, he'd had to shut it down fast. He hadn't processed much of anything happening recently, his emotions locked down as much as he possibly could. It wasn't healthy, but it was all that he could do. He couldn't quite meet Derek's eye, looking at a spot on the wall over his shoulder. "I'm not going to let anyone else die," he said, which wasn't really an answer.

"You didn't let her die, Stiles." If that was how he was seeing it, it was no wonder he hadn't been sleeping. Guilt was a horrible sleep aid. Derek spoke from experience. "You can't help her or anyone else if you kill yourself trying."
