Of course not. [ erwin doesn't get to have breaks. levi hands over a few of the most important papers and something to write with. ]

Once you finish those, I'll pass them onto Central Office.

[ he settles back into his seat and starts going through some of the less urgent papers. being industrious, for once. he wants to finish paperwork as soon as possible. ]

Yes, of course. How foolish of me. Thank you for the reminder, Lance Corporal.

[Erwin sits up and settles back to read, and it all seems to be going well enough, at first. He feels emboldened enough to take his pen and start to fill some of the papers out.

Suddenly, he starts to feel dizzy again. He closes his eyes, swaying slightly, and before he quite knows what's happening, there's ink all over his sheets.

That didn't go as planned...]

Damn.

[curtailment]

[ levi is looking away, tapping a pen against his lower lip as he pores over a page. the ink spill, of course, catches his attention. ]

Fucking hell, Erwin.

[ DEEP SIGH. ]

We're never gonna get that out of the sheets.

[ he puts down his papers and leans over the bed to look at the spilled ink. yeah, that's not going to wash out. ] I'm gonna have to get a new set, but I doubt you can stand up.

[humanwelfare]

My apologies. It slipped.

[Levi is clearly much more concerned about the state of his sheets than Erwin is. It's almost endearing, in an odd way. Erwin is fortunate he enjoys odd gestures, considering his line of work.

He makes a weak gesture with one hand, as if to wave Levi away.]

A little ink won't harm me. I can manage.

[He'll just keep on working, lying on inky, sweaty sheets. He's worked through worse.]

[curtailment]

But it'll soak through into your clothes, too.

[ his lips purse, and for second he looks annoyed enough to rip the sheets off of the bed, disregarding his commander's fragile state. after a few seconds of more reasonable consideration, though, he reaches out for the papers erwin's holding. ] You can sit in a chair for a few minutes, can't you? Besides, clean sheets will make you feel better.

[ and if erwin doesn't want to, he'll just lay the back of his hand over erwin's forehead, frowning more deeply at the slight dampness. ]

And wash your face if you can. Fucking disgusting.

[humanwelfare]

If it does, then it does.

[But Levi seems determined to deal with the sheets, and Erwin isn't in a frame of mind to argue with him. He doesn't protest as Levi rests a hand on his forehead, gazing at him steadily as he does so.]

I can sit up, yes. I don't think a chair is beyond my powers.

[Even if he couldn't sit in a chair, he would think he could, so it's not the most reliable answer. He did appreciate the sentiment about clean sheets making him feel better, even though they would probably do more for Levi's peace of mind than his own.]

Now you're asking me to go and wash? Make up your mind, Levi. I'm a sick man. I can do one thing at a time, and I think I might need a little help for that.

[curtailment]

I'll help you up if you're really that weak. [ vague concern crosses his face. ] Here.

[ the chair is clear for the sitting on. levi peels down the ink-stained sheets down to the bottom of the bed so erwin won't have to touch them. ] If it's a choice between needing someone to help you wash your face and you staying disgustingly sweaty — for fuck's sake, I'll help you.

[humanwelfare]

[Erwin struggles to sit up, and he manages to rise this time, although he's clearly unsteady on his feet. Yet he does make it to the chair, sitting down in it heavily. He hates to admit it, but he probably wouldn't be able to make it much farther on his own.

He watches Levi strip the bed of its stained sheets, thinking that, like the sheets, he could probably use a wash.]

If you're going to be so generous, not to mention gracious, I'll take you up on that offer.

[curtailment]

[ once the sheets are off, he folds them up quickly so he can carry them without getting ink on himself. holding them in his arms, some of the loose fabric falls past his knees. he looks erwin over again, frowning. ]

You flatter me.

[ sort of. ] Sit tight.

[ he's being a bit patronizing, but he feels slightly justified since erwin is in a state to be patronized.

he takes the sheets down to the building's laundry room, setting them aside for special cleaning. if the ink doesn't come out, they'll just reuse the unstained parts. he's back in less than fifteen minutes, carrying a basin of water and a few clean towels. ]
