[ a B-17 bomber pilot in mid-WW2. audibly from upstate new york, generally fairly introverted, prickly and sarcastic the moment he's irritated but beneath a typically somewhat aloof exterior and a tendency to send mixed signals as to whether or not he likes/dislikes someone he's actually very attuned to the emotions of the people around him and kind of cares, like, a lot about his comrades' wellbeing. irish catholic but in a 'northeastern US catholic' sort of way and not super devout (albeit, his interpretation is still era-typical within that subsect of the denomination).

only really interested in playing him in his own time rn but am fine with AUs, crosscanon, etc, although like, also please bring me your hbo war boys. B-17s had a copilot and a several-person crew so there are some cr opportunities there; definitely down for writing more actiony combat scenes followed by the emotional aftermath, or playing him during his time in a german POW camp. m/m with plotting for shipping. ]

though he was decidedly less chill prior to the 20th century, he could feasibly hang out any time between 0 AD and onward. the closer to 20th century, the more chill and less bloodthirsty.

He's supposed to be civil, now that this is their life. That's what 'Nihil' has asked of him and Caleb, anyway. It's been no problem for Caleb - Caleb has gotten just about anything he's asked for, in exchange - but it's been harder for Wyn. Can't exactly buy him out, when the only thing he wants is to know his friend hasn't made the biggest mistake of his life. And he can't know that, can he? No matter how much the Ministry has assured everyone how grand this development has been, and no matter how many times Adam tells him it's fine. All he can do is stay close, stay watchful.

And stay civil. If he has to. Backstage at the venue - which looks about as literally 'backstage' as it can get, with only a few feet of cluttered shuffling-around space and a couple tables crammed with drinks and snacks for the musicians behind the dusty, smoke-infused back curtains - is less packed than it was earlier now that one or two of the other acts has finished up their set and gone to join the rest of the bar. Now it mostly consists of Ghost and its, for lack of a better word, 'crew', including the reason they're all here in the first place: Sister.

Wyn is dying for another beer. Sister is lurking near the drinks. Nothing he can do, really, but saunter up beside her and fish in the cooler for a can.

"Sister," he says in... well, not greeting, exactly, but at least acknowledgement, because again: civil.

There is a half-empty Pabst Blue Ribbon can threatening to crumple in Sister Imperator's fist. If Crys comes at her one more time with another "nEw tHouGHt" for "the direction of the band" that conveniently "jUsT occurred to him" again before the night is over, the shitty beer will go flying. Pulling him on board, taking him from one Nameless Ghoul responsibility to another seemed to be a burgeoning mistake, by her count. He'd forgotten his duties and his oath almost instantly. See, the thing about being a Nameless Ghoul is that you're supposed to blend in, keep quiet, and follow Papa. You are not supposed to try to affix yourself to Imperator's hip and brag about your years of experience in Church worship. We know how long you've been a loyal and musical servant. That's why we gave you the guitar and asked you to join the Ghost project - as support. Unobtrusive and nameless.

But Nihil's bandmates have no more surrendered their identities than Vinea and Buer did, have they? Nor would Imperator ever be the one to ask them to, however she presented them en masse. They aren't just servants to Nihil, they're friends, brothers. Which meant that they had to become important to her, too. So, into her mental rolodex their cards and whereabouts went. Caleb, still at the bar with her - increasingly his - girls, egging on Crys's boasts of enjoying the (clout-chasing) vinegar-only shots he asked the bartender to pour him. Gavin with Nihil on the other side of the stage, laughing as they try to balance all their supplies to roll their own cigarettes and joints in their hands because there's nowhere to set anything down over there.

And, just to the right of her nearly massacred terrible choice in free alcohol, digging for his own -

"Edwin." She matches his tone, but not with any tension other than what is standard for her. ...So, probably more than he is used to in amiable conversation. She knows even less how to talk to this man than she does to Nihil's wildcard of a brother. "You'd have better luck at the bar," she tries. But that sounds like she's dismissing him immediately. Try again: "The ice is just about melted."

He laughs - genuine, not like his introduction - and then grimaces exaggeratedly at the chill of the slush against his hand before finally wrapping it around one of the lone remaining cans at the bottom, pulling it free.

"I've had worse free beer in sorrier states than this," he says a little more cheerfully as he taps some of the wet off on the edge of the cooler and cracks the tab upward. "Hate to interrupt Caleb and his new friends, anyway."

Wyn may not like Sister - may not trust her, at least, certainly - but the look he gives her is a slight concession: he knows this newer addition to the project isn't her favourite, because he's not Wyn's, either. And not only because the guy has dangerously raised the acceptable level of members with a 'y' in their nickname. Wyn's is at least from his Welsh mother; Crys has no excuse. (At least the resulting 'Calyb' and 'Nihyl' have been funny, so there's that.)

If they can't reconcile everything, but they're going to be stuck in this together, there's at least griping.

"Crys is a character, isn't he?"

On instinct, Imperator sets her own beer down on the craft table she's been perched on and her feet on the floor so she can better reach out towards Wyn's beer. She's almost touched it before it hits her that this might be weird, too. "Can I -?" Oh, fuck it. It's easier to show than tell and it's not like he's the one man who might want to drink lukewarm beer. She flicks the side of can - far enough from his fingers so it's not like there's any threat of touching him at all - and it instantly frosts over. Something, actually, she could have done to the whole cooler a lot earlier, but she preferred agency over who benefited from her particular services.

Unlike Nihil's friends, she doesn't need direction to choose to be nice. She can make that decision all on her own, when appropriate.

Now that she's up, though, her arms fold right back over her chest and there's a downward tug in the muscles of her neck and the corners of her mouth. We probably all seem like "characters" to you, don't we? dances temptingly behind her clenched teeth. The distrust is mutual, they don't take this seriously, not yet.

But - she catches the intonation. Wyn's not as brash with his disbelief as Caleb is. Plus, she's seen his face at rehearsal. (Yes, she does find the occasional moment to look away from Nihil's.) He's commiserating. She can match that, too.

She exhales. "If I'd known he was going to bring so much 'atmosphere', I would have found a different bargaining chip than an internal hire."

( FMA takes place in the mildly steampunk fantasy 1910s, but also he's god knows how old (read: like 300 to 400 or something) and has been committing atrocities his entire life. I am always 1000% down to explore the shenanigans the homunculi got up to pre-canon, but AUing his evil ass into another period would be just as fun and is far more likely! )

[ A descendant (most likely) of Sun Tzu who lived during the latter period of the Han Dynasty and, after losing his father at the age of sixteen, raised an army and unified southeastern China during a period of civil war, setting the stage for the Three Kingdoms Period of Chinese history. Even though he gets a huge thrill out of fighting, he also doesn't tolerate people who harm or mislead the common people, and he also has a very strong sense of compassion, historically taking in his defeated enemies to serve as hig his army or taking care of their families after their defeat. He was also a bit reckless and brash.

He's a socialist who writes for a Conservative paper because you gotta pay the bills, writes and sells gay erotica under a pen name, and has dabbled in burglary. Also he's anti-magic, as in, magic doesn't entirely work on him; depending on canon point he may not know magic exists at all, or he may be learning to "perturbate" spells deliberately. ]
