[ Tomorrow's the day the Governor comes a calling. Deadlines have never been Shane's strong suit. Rules really are where he always got hung up. He was a problem in school because everyone was always telling him how to act. Only person could get away with giving Shane orders and it was Rick. Maybe he got a little mouthy, but it's hard for Shane to fall in line. He's been through a lot. He's done a lot. He was the one responsible for the Atlanta groups survival and Rick took the mantle from him without asking. It rattled his chain. Ate away at his sanity. Maybe he was never sane to begin with, but he's shaped up since their walk in the woods. Shane planned to kill him, but he couldn't look him in the eyes and pulling the trigger was damn near impossible. They came home and they dealt with a lot of crap that landed in their laps.

Lori's dead now and maybe that makes things easier. It's easier for him to fall back into the same routine with Rick before the zombies. It's easier to embrace him as a brother with Lori's absence. The baby is easier for Shane to embrace. He never really had Lori to begin with. The baby doesn't know what kinda man Shaen was in the past. The baby doesn't know all the bad crap he's done and the people he's killed. The baby looks at him and sees someone to take care of her and that's what Shane wants to do. Daryl's more involved than Rick most days and it kills Shane to know his friend is cracking like that. Shane's better at keeping a tight lid on everything. When he hurts you don't know. You don't need to know.

Things got worse since finding the prison. People died. The Governor is breathing down their necks and Rick won't let Shane put a bullet in the guy. He won't even put Shane in situations where he might run into the guy because he's scared of Shane's temper these days. Scared of what he's willing to do to protect these people. Rick's still trying to straddle that line. Trying to think every possible move over. He's trying to play Chess with the Governor when the man is playing Checkers.

Tomorrow's the day. The big day. The day they all gotta stand up or stand down. They're standing up. Which is why they're all on edge. Maggie and Glenn have knocked off to one of the guard towers to give them peace and quiet. Rick's with Carl and he's given Shane some time with Judith. Walking the cell block has become a habit for him when he has her. It's easy. She likes the movement.

Shane's paused at Daryl's cell. He's suffering a loss and Shane understands that. He gets it. He felt the same way when Lori died. He wasn't foolish enough to think it felt like how Rick felt, but it hurt. ] You doin' alright? [ He's bouncing from foot to foot to keep Judith happy. ]

[That was all Loki did to announce himself and his presence in Natasha's safehouse. That was all he needed to do, really. He was just there, waiting, when she returned. Loki was a little more in control of himself than he had been before - imprisonment had done that much for him, at least. But with Thanos soon to launch another attack on Earth, he'd been let out to help. If nothing else, after all, Thor maintained they could trust in Loki's need for revenge.]

[They'd brought Giles in on charges of breaking into the morgue and mutilating bodies. Keeping him had become a lot easier to justify when he'd started trying to convince them that there was a zombie apocalypse on the horizon. Charges of attempted arson had been submitted when they'd turned up the fixings for molotov cocktails in his back.

Still, it was a story he'd stuck to stubbornly and insistently so far. They had run some tox screens to see what kind of drugs he was on, but the results weren't back yet.

Now, it was late, and he was obviously getting nervous, and he'd asked to talk to Beckett. Giles knew for a fact that there was a zombie apocalypse on the horizon - within hours, actually - but there was nothing he could do about it tied up with the police or on the run as a fugitive. It was stupid, perhaps, but he was still holding out hope that he could convince them to listen to him, and maybe cooperate before it was too late.]

The war was at its bloody and vicious height. Every day, people were being killed, massacred, tortured, kidnapped - the streets were as deserted by day as they were by night. 'Closed' signs hung on the doors of shop windows; some had their windows boarded up while others had had their windows smashed in by looters. Fear hung thick and heavy in the air throughout the wizarding world of Britain like a poisonous mist.

As the days grew more dangerous and violent, Severus grew more and more apprehensive of Lily's safety. He had tried to beg the Dark Lord to spare Lily's life. He had begged Dumbledore to try to keep her safe. Everything in him wanted to go to her, to tell her to hide, to find somewhere safe, but he knew that if he was caught doing so, he would die an agonising and painful death at the hands of Voldemort.

It was the middle of the night, after he and Lucius had been sent on a mission to destroy the home of the Minister of Magic, that Severus decided he could no longer stand it. While his fellow Death Eaters slept in preparation for another day's terror, he quietly crept out of the Malfoy manor into the frosty, snowy night and apparated to Godric's Hollow. He appeared with a snap under a bare tree across the street from Lily's home. He stood there for a moment and watched it, wondering if he ought to turn back before it was too late. Swallowing thickly, his heart hammering in his chest, he began walking towards the house, snow crunching under his feet.

When he came to the edge of the road, he stopped, drew out his wand and with a small flick whispered an incantation that Lily and he had made up as children - a charm that they used when one of them would sneak out at nighttime and let the other know they were waiting outside for them; a charm they hadn't used since before Fifth Year.

[Those things that have been created by genius have a tendency to collapse in on themselves with no warning whatsoever; Ishimaru has seen how quickly it can happen firsthand. Toranosuke's rise to power had been a good, firm warning, a testament to why hard work and perseverance and extraordinary effort were not only strong attributes to have in general, but fundamental to success, absolutely and utterly necessary to avoid progress that could only be considered cursed in the end.

He supposes he should have seen what happened at Hope's Peak coming, knowing that; the truth is that he didn't. None of them had. The Worst, Most Despair-Inducing Incident in the History of Mankind (is that seriously what they're supposed to be calling it now? He supposes there's nothing to be done for it and it's incredibly apt, but it's also inefficient, unwieldy in one's mouth) had caught momentum with speed that would be considered impressive were it not so terrible. And now? Now there were decisions to be made, and obligations to fulfill (or not fulfill, that was always an option except for the part where it really sort of wasn't, not if they wanted the world to have any sort of future at all to hear Jin Kirigiri tell it) and Ishimaru's nerves are so tightly-strung that he can practically feel them vibrating when he tries to lie down.

It's that sense of tightness that brings him to a halt by Oowada's door that night, fingertips hesitant over the pager outside. His relationship with Oowada has always been something of a funny one; he wouldn't call it friendship, because he's never really been able to call it that for anyone, not just yet - but he's been able to build up a sort of respect for the guy over the last year, an understanding centered around a mutual sense of passion and leadership, and it's the leadership that he's here for tonight, nothing more.

He shifts a bit, presses down on that pager, and hopes that the longer he tries to tell himself that, the more he can convince himself it's true and he's not here because he's scared out of his mind.]
