[Vex had come down to the States for the music. By now, he was good at seeing what had staying power and what would be gone as quickly as it came.

Jazz music? Was the wave of the future. And so, he had to bring it to Carpe Noctem. The groups gaining public notice in the US wouldn't do, not really. He needed fresh talent, so he went to neighbourhood clubs, soaking in the sights and the sounds and mentally redesigning the swing club to a jazz one in his mind.

He's between clubs at the moment, satisfied with the things he'd heard at the last one and takes a moment to stop outside the place and look up. He spots Orion instantly, Scorpio at his heels, and his hunting dog at his side and chuckles to himself. One thing Fae and humans have in common, at least -- fanciful creatures to see pictures in the stars.]

In his boredom, he noticed to his surprise a small section of sky visible just over her house.

And the view from the planet they've landed on is spectacular. Oswin's eyes are alight the moment she steps out of the TARDIS, and she exhales quietly, her energy quelled for once by awe.

Looking over her shoulder, she grins back at the Doctor.]

Well. 'Least you don't disappoint. [It's what she'd said, when he'd asked her where she wanted to go. Take me to the stars.]

Unaffected by cold, he knew others were worried when he was alone. He might go off the handle again, but he hadn't brought a weapon. His face was upturned towards the sky, watching in silence something he hadn't seen since his childhood in Nibelheim.]

[The Shatterdome technically isn't supposed to have roof access, but Herc's been around this ol' block a few times, he knows how these things work. And, sure enough, there's a rickety metal ladder fused to the side of the building which lets him sneak out and away from the observation platform and scale the side of the 'dome until he's balancing precariously on the slippery roof.

Half the city still hasn't recovered from Leatherback's EMP whatever-the-hell-that-was, which means it's an awful lot darker out here than he's used to. He can barely make out the shipwrecked forms for Crimson Typhoon and Cherno Alpha, even as the rescue crews try to fish out the dead pilots so they can be buried properly.

He's seen so many Rangers die since the first Kaiju attack...it's hard to muster up enough energy to grieve them properly. Or perhaps he's just too numb to feel any empathy for anyone. His best friend and his only son — god, Chuck, that cocksure little shit who was so convinced he was invincible he had half the world convinced too — are dead. He needs a little time to get his head around that. It doesn't feel real. He keeps expecting to turn around and see Chuck dragging Max huffing and puffing through the halls, to see Stacker clearly resist rolling his eyes at them both.

He knows they're dead. But he doesn't feel it yet.

And so he carefully lowers himself to the roof and lies back, avoiding jostling his broken arm, and just stares up at the stars.]
