If you'd drop a date to go help her, you don't need to date anyone else. whether you call it dating or not, your focus is on her, isn't it?

Well I wouldn't do that. Haruhi is old enough to know that not everything revolves around her.

It doesn't really matter what she knows. If she's going to interfere with you seeing other people, that's not a healthy dynamic for either of you.

It's not only about you, though. You have to consider the hypothetical other girl as well. When someone else gets involved in that sort of dynamic, it can be difficult for them depending on the nature of the girl 'best friend' they're dealing with.
