[ It's been two weeks of no contact with Barbie. The drive back to London from the Lakes had easily been the worst five hours of his life, even if Barbie had slept (or pretended to sleep, it was difficult to tell) for most of it. Everyone knew the status of their relationship, not that Roy had wanted to tell anyone or talk about it, but after always seeing Roy and Barbie joined at the hip, they knew something was wrong when Barbie abruptly seemed gone from his life.

It didn't help that everyone had told him he was an idiot as soon as he admitted the break was his idea. Of course they didn't know the full story, but there was no way he was exposing Barbie's secret to them. Weirdly, Ted seemed optimistic about the whole thing. He was convinced they'd get back together, and when Roy had pointed out that people thought the same about him and Keeley, and look how well that had turned out, Ted had just given him that goofy smile over Skype and reminded him that Keeley had never been his soulmate the way Barbie was.

Roy had promptly ended the call before Ted witnessed him crying over his laptop. Fucking prick... He hated that he missed him.

Tonight he was out with Jamie at a pub. The fact that he was allowing his star player to drink alcohol definitely worried Jamie, but Roy was so in his head own head that he didn't care what Jamie put in his body lately. Jamie was being a good friend though, filling the silence by talking nonsense while Roy sat on a stool, nursing a bottle of beer. From the other end of the pub, Roy notices two people enter and suddenly he can't breathe.

Barbie... and a date? She was with a man Roy didn't recognize. Jamie follows Roy's gaze and swears, then asks Roy if he wants to leave, but he shakes his head at Jamie. Barbie hasn't noticed him yet. [ The problem with secretly being in a relationship (he wasn't sure what to call it, but they were having a lot of sneaky sex) with the client you were meant to be guarding was that he couldn't get drunk with her when she was celebrating a number one single.

He was incredibly happy for her, of course, and she'd wanted to celebrate by going out dancing (of course). He wasn't much of a drinker anyway, hating the way alcohol made him feel out of control, but while Juliette was partying in the nightclub they were in, Matthias had a job to do, which was to protect her, something he took very seriously when he wasn't breaking the rules by fucking her backstage before an interview. (They had been so close to getting caught that time.)

He kept close to her on the dancefloor, though he looked decidedly out of place, rigid and unmoving, unlike everyone around him. Anyone who looked like a creep (which so far was every man who approached Juliette) had Matthias stepping in front of them with a threatening look. Fortunately, Matthias was big enough that nobody was willing to fight him for a dance with Juliette.

He could tell Juliette was getting more and more drunk, her movements on the dancefloor becoming more lewd, her eye contact with Matthias growing more heated. He couldn't do anything that might reveal he was more than just her bodyguard, though the way he'd been scaring men away from her all night was enough evidence to suggest he wanted to be the one to take her home tonight, no one else.
