FILM NOIR MEME

Film noir; where the detectives are gruff, the dames are deadly, and intrigue lurks around every corner. Pull on that trenchcoat and fedora, light up your smokes, and step into the grimy underworld... It's time to decide where your character fits into this world. If you're short on inspiration, here are some suggestions:-

1. Detective. Whether a cop or a PI, you're the one seeking to uncover the dirty secrets in this town.
2. Femme Fatale. Or homme fatal, as the case may be...either way you're the alluring yet dangerous free agent using charm and wiles to get what you want.
3. Gangster. From mafia don to hired muscle, you're on the wrong side of the law and working hard to get away with it.
4. Informant. Do I smell a rat? You're a guy who knows a guy, and you know everyone's secrets. And you're willing to share them...for a price.
5. Victim. You've got caught in the crossfire, and now you're out for answers. Or maybe even a little vengeance...
6. Other. Bartender? Bent cop? Dirty politician? Take your pick of any other stock Noir characters and go wild with it.

The stage is set set; you all know how the story goes. Better strap in for this one. It's going to be a wild ride...

Rumour has it he works for the mafia organisation that runs the notorious Hearts Casino. But then again, rumour also has it that he's passing information to the cops. Whatever the truth is, he's certainly not talking]

[For the purposes of this meme, Izumo is human, though her teeth are still sharp enough to qualify her as a Dick Tracy villain. Don't feel obliged to use my starter post here if you can think of something better, but her situation in general will still apply.

Detective Izumo Izuki of the _____ PD is known for her temper and her tendency to snap at her superiors. She's been in a lot of hot water for using excessive force in more than one case, but she's always stood by her decisions. The only reason she's still got a job is because the higher ups are making her talk to a shrink about her anger issues. She's one of the few clean cops in this department, though she's still too thick to realize that. She doesn't have many friends in the department; that much she DOES know.

She slumps into her seat at her desk on the main floor. She used to have a desk with a cubicle, but she's since been bumped down here, because someone in the brass doesn't quite get what a dislike for crowds and a short temper can do when they're both put to the test. So she tugs her hat down on her head, trying to use it to block out her view of the people bustling around her desk.

If she doesn't get out to do some footwork out in the open air, she's going to scream, so help her.]

[Little towns like Storybrooke were nice fronts for shady, underhanded business. The local sheriff and his hard-eyed daughter were nuisances, but when the mob moved in, all their starry-eyed idealism and talk of justice meant nothing. Gold owned the town when everything was done. The mayor was a vamp of the worst kind and in his pocket so long as she could keep her cushy little seat and use it to make the sheriff's schoolteacher wife's life a living hell- old business that. Gold heard the story a hundred different ways and he never bothered to see which one was true or not.

It didn't really matter- Regina was bad news an he avoided her as often as he could. They hadn't called her mother the queen of hearts affectionately back when she was still alive. Gold had sworn he wasn't going to let another woman get too close to his business affairs or his bed after that mess.

Some said he had a sixth sense. He liked to let them believe that, just because it kept people from trying to pull a fast one on him, but if he truly could see the future, he would've seen this coming.

As it stood when his shop bell rang (mob business was mob business, but pawnbroking was a lovely cover operation), he didn't expect anything but a local wandering in after closing hours and didn't bother looking up to prove or disprove it.] We're closed.

The location was, of course, out of the way and hard to find. One of the "dens of iniquity" that the police were so set on shutting down. Drugs, liquor, and gambling: just the sort of thing that made Starfire's family rich and the police force furious. Robin had been sent a note with hints about where to find it; if he couldn't find it, he clearly wasn't a good fit.

If he could, however, when he reached the entrance he would find an immaculately-dressed redhead, a proud and dignified expression on her face.]

Trixie Dixon has a nice face and a good reputation. They will believe her more than they will a char-broiled lunatic, and perhaps then they will do more than point fingers and whisper. She paces in front of the office door, precise little steps of exactly equal length, waiting for its occupant to return. Her dress is long-sleeved and high collared, her hair cropped unevenly short as if she was attacked by a drunken barber on the way home from the bar.]

Word on the street was that he was thrown off the police force for bending the rules (and actually got caught doing so), but never to the point of hurting innocent people or falsifying evidence. He will always take the cases that everyone else would turn down - not because he didn't care about how little he was paid or how unbelievable the scenario was, but because the truth needed to be revealed and the "right" people should be arrested and tried for their crimes.]

She doesn't think about it, but she could find a use for herself here, in this less-than-on-the-level company. It's 78 in the shade and they have been casing the joint across the street for several hours now. His collar is transparent with perspiration and a cramp is developing in his back, and naturally he is not in the mood for chicanery.]

Looks like you still got some of your teeth. My advice, you'll beat it before I make you part with the rest.

[Considering the venom with which Parker says this, you can be sure that he beats it. Parker reaches for the radio's dial, tuning into something that isn't the police band, and dabs his forehead with a handkerchief. He might have considered taking a nap and letting her do the work, but this is a mafia establishment that sees a lot of traffic. And a lot of that traffic is packing.

Furthermore, Selina is new to him, found her way to him through a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy. Had his last job not gone sour and were he not out of friends and pocket he wouldn't be here, fleecing men who are connected if you catch my drift. It makes him wary, it makes him do things like sitting in on a one-man job, casing the back door of an unlicensed casino to see who comes out and when and for how long. And Parker being Parker he doesn't care too much to hide it. She would think twice about trying to pull a number on him, that's for damn sure.]
