[Okay, but see: he usually is quite sympathetic to Arthur. He's a hard life, when all's said and done, he has the pressure of his father and the crown weighing in on him, and he's truly shaping up to be a good prince, and a good king, and Merlin really does love him--

--but he can't help laughing now. He really can't.]

Where's your dress!

[ arthur is lying face down on his (her?) bed, attempting to suffocate himself with a pillow. or, at least, just die—alone—of shame. sure, he should be happy that the potion that'd been slipped into his drink hadn't dealt him a mortal wound of some sort, but he isn't. gone were his muscles, his warrior body. his male body—

and here, now, were the soft curves of a female. no amount of self-ogling would make him feel better.

and merlin's presence just made it all worse. ]

Leave. Me. Alone. [ muffled ]

[alwaysforhim]

My poor lady.

[Merlin sits on the edge of the bed, grinning. After a moment, he even pats Arthur's back consolingly.]

There, there. It'll all be all right. I'm sure Morgana will let you borrow a dress.

[ he's snapping up faster than is probably healthy for his new, delicate neck—but arthur doesn't care. he scowls as fiercely as he can manage at his servant and tries to jerk away from his touch. ]

I'll have you arrested for assault faster than you can take your next breath if you dare touch me again!

[ someone's just emotional, merlin—it isn't your fault. ]

[alwaysforhim]

[And now the smile is gone. Merlin ignores that snapped order and leans in, face furrowed in concern.]

Arthur-- Arthur, it really is all right. You know Gaius, he'll find a way to change you back.

[ merlin wouldn't be so compassionate if he knew the reason for arthur's distress. he's being misogynistic and selfish—overall, quite childish. ]

He better. [ arthur pulls himself up into a near-ball, leaning against the larger pillows of his bed. his princely clothes hang baggily off of his now slighter frame; he looks slightly ridiculous. ]

You've no idea what might become of Camelot without its heir—this is not an amusing event!

[alwaysforhim]

You're still the heir.

[He draws his knees to his chest, bright eyes suddenly serious. For now, Arthur's distress takes priority.]

Just because you're the girl doesn't mean you're disinherited.

Do I look fit to rule a kingdom? [ he holds his arms out wide, trying to display what is so horrible about his new body—but he just looks like an irritated girl in arthur's usual clothing. ]

The people won't accept this, Merlin—how am I to protect the villagers with such a useless body? How am I to properly wield a weapon!

[alwaysforhim]

You could train it. I mean, look at Morgana; she can wield a sword just as well as you. And that's if it's permanent, which it's not going to be, because we'll find a way to fix you.

[ arthur blinks at merlin, a little stunned by the boy's behavior. he's a woman, yet his servant isn't treating him any differently—he's rude to the boy almost 24/7, and merlin is trying to make him feel better.

he's almost speechless. ]

…you're very strange. Did you know that?

Too many reasons to list—Gaius would have a cure for me by the time I'd reached the end. [ there's actually a smile. not an exceptionally nice one, but it's better than a frown ]

[alwaysforhim]

[Merlin gives a soft smile.]

You can list one or two, at least.

[ a shrug and a sigh ] You are compassionate to saintly levels, for one; and you have yet to give me a hard time about… this. [ the dress comment wasn't all that bad, really. ] My opinion of your predictability changes each day. You are, by my standards, certifiably mysterious. [ if mysteriousness could be certified ]

[alwaysforhim]

I don't know why I'd give you a hard time regardless.

[He tugs a knee to his chest.]

It's just-- [Magic.] --being a girl.

[royalties]

[ a look. ] Do you believe I would treat you no differently if you were transformed into a girl? One can never pass up the chance for a laugh, Merlin—it's good for the soul.

Yes, well. We're different, obviously. I'm not the sort who'd laugh at you for being transformed.

[royalties]

Have you no opinion of me in this form, then? [ color him almost touched. sort of. not really. ]

[alwaysforhim]

No better or worse than I do in your normal form.

[royalties]

And if I were to wear female clothing…? [ looking at merlin expectantly. ]

I doubt you would-- but it doesn't matter. You're my master, through and through.

[royalties]

[ another rare female grin! ] Well. Then you won't mind continuing to do your master's chores, regardless of her gender. I hear the horses' stables are in dire need of a good mucking today… and my boots still need another cleaning, even if I won't be wearing them.

[WOW RUDE Merlin narrows his eyes.]

I think my duties are to my mistress' emotional state, to be honest-- what sort of servant would I be if I left you in this state?

As you can see, my mental state is perfectly fine! [ moving up onto his knees in an effort to start moving off of the bed—

but the breeches are bit larger on him now, despite the newly-gained hips, so they slip down—and if there's a flash of anything, well—

but arthur tries to move quickly to hoist them up when he notices that they aren't staying in place as they used to. ]
