I don't even
Tessa! The doctors say she is very healthy even though she is small. What do we name her? How are you feeling?
no subject
Come here. [ She wants to look at her baby. And be close to him. ]
I am quite well, I suppose, considering.
no subject
But tired, yes? You are to stay in bed and tell me if you need anything.
no subject
I am tired, but— it does not matter, so much. It is well-worth it. [ She has Chekov holding their baby perched on the bed. Everything else comes second to that. ]
no subject
[He shifts to offer the quiet baby girl to Tessa.] Are you able to hold her?
no subject
[ Tessa holds out her hands. They may be a little shaky, but she knows she would not drop their daughter. ]
no subject
Chekov gently hands the tiny girl to her mother.]
no subject
Her baby, and her husband. She hadn't believed it possible that she should ever have this, not after Will told her that warlocks are barren. ]
What would you like to call her?
no subject
[He doesn't mean it. He's just happy--happy with the entire world, particularly this beautiful woman who, by some miracle, is his wife and the tiny being they brought into existence. Chekov puts an arm around Tessa.]
Something Pavlova, if you do not mind Russian patronymics? Her first name... that must be something very special.
no subject
[ Tessa leans into him. For all the pain and exhaustion, she would not change a single thing about how they got here, about this moment. ]
I do not mind. Perhaps her third name could be Harriet, though. [ For her dead aunt, the woman who raised Tessa. ]
no subject
Harriet is good. We will give her a long name--something Pavlova Harriet Chekov-Gray. Or Harriet first, perhaps.
[Chekov touches one of the child's errant curls reverently.]
Do you like a name like Eidel, or Shayna?
no subject
Shayna Harriet Pavlova Chekov-Gray. I like that.

trolling in sometime later
[All of this is said just as Peter bursts through the door, carrying a huge bottle of wine in one hand and a penis balloon he picked up at a sex shop because where the fuck do you buy shit for new parents? They don't make stores for that!]
ai ai ai...
[Crazy Peter Vincent and his poor memory. His sense of humor is appreciated, however, and his brand of crazy never hurt anyone.]
What are you doing?
no subject
no subject
Oh look! What a cute little alien!
no subject
Thank you for the gifts! You are too generous. [Now let Chekov take that balloon and dispose of it quietly.] Tessa? This is Peter Vincent. Peter, this is Theresa and Shayna Harriet Pavlova Chekov-Gray, and Shayna is very much a human.
[to Tessa, in a whisper] He is harmless and usually means well.
no subject
It is a pleasure to meet you, Mr Vincent.
no subject
I'm not sure I like your tone. [Yeah, he heard that, Chekov.] It's all right. My manhood can take it. It's sturdy. [He thumps his chest.]
Please, call me Peter! Only reporters call me Mr. Vincent. Fucking leeches. Love 'em. And the pleasure - [He bows grandly] has not even begun.
[thought occurs] Is it bad to hit on a man's wife while she's cradling their newborn child? Sorry, habit. I didn't mean - well, not that I wouldn't; you're a Victorian sexbomb if you don't mind my saying - but you love my boy Chekov and he loves you and the proof of that is sleeping right there.
[FUCK this polite society thing is a bitch. stupid fucking Chekov marrying some proper lady creature. He gestures to the wine bottle] Mind if I open that?
no subject
My tone? [Complete wide-eyed innocence here.] Did I say anything inaccurate?
[But... just... what.]
Peter, please. Try to behave appropriately. [This is like asking Spock to think illogically, but it's worth a try. He waves a hand at the bottle of wine.] Go ahead, but I will ask you to leave if you become too loud.
no subject
It is certainly a bad habit. [ Looking down at Shayna, to make sure the child is still asleep and not disturbed by the strange man.
She looks at Chekov, reaching out with the hand not cradling Shayna to her, to take his. She doesn't mind this Peter Vincent, not truly, not when Chekov is joking with him, but she wants the familiarity of her husband beside her regardless. ]
no subject
[Taking another glug, he ruffles Chekov's curls.] So. Shayna Harry Pavlov Grey. Innin't she a little short for that.
[He leans closer to the baby.] You're gonna grow up too big for your britches, that's what you're gonna do. [Somehow manages to say that quietly enough to hopefully not disturb the baby.] Then again, with her looks and his brains - or his looks and her brains, either way, I think you're gonna be a winner.
no subject
Chekov sits on the bed next to Tessa and squeezes her hand. He will have to remember to apologize for Peter once he leaves.]
Shayna Harriet Pavlova Chekov-Gray, and we think she will grow into it.
[The baby stays asleep and Chekov finds his friend's words to the newborn sufficiently endearing to forgive Peter's recent misdeeds.] She is already a winner, so far as I am concerned.
I was going to ask you to be her godfather, but perhaps she should not meet you until she is older. [This is said with a smile. That doesn't necessarily mean he's joking, but it's not meant as an attack on Peter's--ah, character.]
no subject
Very dryly: ] If the name is too much of a mouthful for you, Peter, you may simply call her Shayna.
