1-20 -- Wolf will find you
Still, it came from the run down human building, where the human —he— stayed during the time when he wasn't wolf.
Curious, Eliot nosed the door open and slipped in, looking, following his nose, to where the scent lead. Closer and closer, he stopped at the doorway of a deserted room, once the break room for the factory. There was a form huddled inside, human —of course— and intruding upon his territory.
He growled at the figure in warning: Get out!]
no subject
The empty building was the first place he found that was secluded enough that no one would search for him here. Those men in black suits had tried to confront him and he ran, ran as fast and as far as he could until he found this place. He burst through the doors, found the furthest and highest corner he could - which was only atop a rackety metal shelf in the corner but it would suffice. For a long time, he had nothing but his thoughts to focus on, and every passing minute pushed him further into a depressing insanity.
He almost didn't notice the intruder, but the growling was unmistakable. Frightened, he lifted his head from his arms and pressed back further against the wall behind him, breathing heavy through his nose with dried tears and blood staining his skin.
Of course. If another mortal human wasn't going to find him, a creature would. ]
no subject
Nope, the metallic tinge was still in the air.
Was the prey... Eliot shook the animal's thoughts loose from his own. —Human!— Was the human injured?
Stopping his offensive growling, Eliot padded to the metal shelf where the figure was huddled above. Really, what was the person doing up there before he came in? Nudging at the shelf with a large paw, he made a soft whining noise and looked up.
Of course, his stupid beastly form was... Probably not helping. Baking up, he folded his legs under him, trying to make himself as nonthreatening as possible, and laid down to wait.
See, it is safe to come down now. ]
no subject
The growling had stopped, at least. Now, the creature merely seemed curious about him. But while the wolf drew close, Loki pressed back further against the wall. Was he supposed to trust an animal now? Not that anyone who walked on two legs had given him any reason to anymore ...
It was strange, then, when the wolf suddenly chose to lay down. Was it waiting for him, trying to coerce him into coming down from the shelf? Wolves weren't supposed to behave like that, or at least, the ones he'd known didn't. Was this one ... not all wolf?
With that thought in mind, Loki cautiously pushed himself away from the wall, carefully sliding off the top of the shelf and keeping his eyes on the wolf. Once his feet touched the floor, he kept close to the shelf in case he needed to bolt back up there, waiting for any move from the wolf. ]

Watching closely with yellow eyes flecked with blue, he waited until the other, male, was down completely before he started lifting his head. He lifted his head and stretched out his paws before him, as much for the man as his own benefit as he was still not used to running around as an animal. Then after getting the kinks out, he raised back to his feet and approached the human slowly.
Something was definitely... strange, although Eliot couldn't pinpoint his nose to it. The smell of tears were stronger with how much closer the other man was, and Eliot could practically taste the stench of dried blood from the other being. Dried only, not fresh but not old, so there was no danger of bleeding wounds to set his beast off but the other may still be hurt.
Eliot sniffed gently at the other, then mentally cursed when he couldn't see worth a damn thing in this darkness. Making a decision, he tried to latch his jaws around the other's pants as a clutch to drag him outside. At least somewhere with a window. ]
no subject
Not that he was about to blindly trust a wolf, but at the very least, he supposed he could try to get the creature to warm up to him. Surely a wolf would have no reason to scorn him and cast him out the way everyone else ever had. Surely a wolf would only ever harm him out of instinct and perhaps hunger, and not because he was a monster every being everywhere was told to hate and fear.
Better than the alternative, Loki supposed. Though he flinched when the wolf first reached for him, the realization that he was only trying to grab the torn fabrics of his robes helped ease that fear of having his leg bitten off away. He was trying to ... lead him somewhere, perhaps. Where?
Hesitantly, Loki moved away from the shelf, letting the wolf guide him forward. His steps were unsteady and without his usual grace, but he managed to keep enough of his balance not to stumble forward. ]

He turned around with his tail thumping a reassuring pat against Loki's leg and took off in a light dash out of the room, only to stop at the doorway to look around again to wait for
Coming? An impatient look, if his animal expression, more like a glow of eyes really, could be discerned in such darkness. Really, how did the man see in this lack of light? He paused until Loki reached him, then nudging his head against human's side, he moved off again, heading to where there's more light so he could look the man over.
Not that Eliot wasn't watching the other carefully while he moved though. As far as he could tell, the man didn't look physically injured. ]
no subject
This one was quite different. The wolf seemed helpful, assisting him in it's curiosity. He couldn't help but wonder why.
Loki followed slowly behind him. He had done nothing but run, run, and run the past however long since he'd arrived in this realm. He was tired of running. Holding his sides as he shivered, not from cold (and now he knew the reason for that,) his feet dragged underneath him as he eventually caught up to where the wolf waited for him. And after that nudge against his leg, he followed along again, just as slowly. ]

The paper factory had been long abandoned. Nobody lived near it now. Placed on the edge of civilization, it died when development went south, leaving this and many more others like it in the area as nothing but empty husks. The woodland it had once been on the edge of grew practically into a mini forest over the years, and it was towards the outside that the wolf lead the other man.
Eliot finally came to a stop just outside the factory doors where the full moon shone brilliantly over his light brown coat. He stood there, waiting for the other to come out.... and froze, staring in disbelief as he same moonlight that wrecked such havoc on his wolf also revealed the horror of the stranger.
Therein lied the answer to his other questions, those other indiscernible mysteries. Like why was the human so quiet, where the blood was coming from.
It was cruelty like those he witnessed in third world countries. For whatever crime this man committed, probably something he said, there should be no punishment like that in these civilized lands. Following what must be trauma suffered at the hands of other humans, Eliot could almost even understand why this man decided to trust an animal.
He moved forward again until he was close enough to touch, then gently, almost reassuringly, he bumped his head against the human's leg then lowered his head, almost like that of apology.
For the first time since being turned, he felt ashamed for his human side. ]

A very strange wolf, at that. They were either in packs or alone, from what Loki had known. Why this one was showing such curiosity around him, especially considering his foreign (and not to mention bloodied) scent, he couldn't understand.
But he did not object. Even if the wolf was only a temporary companion, it was at least a little light in this dark time. He was not afraid of the animal, whatever would happen. He had other, greater things to spend his fear on.
While he did not fear stepping into the light in the clearing, he was hesitant about it. The wolf hadn't seen-- but it was just a wolf, right? No reason to be shy, a creature ... wouldn't understand. Even if this one seemed to be unique in that respect thus far. Slowly, he took a step forward, and then one more, to let the light shine and reveal the thick black threads stitching his lips closed, silencing him for the foreseeable future.
Holding his sides, Loki trembled not from cold or breeze, and looked away. He was ashamed, afraid and utterly lost out here like this. He had no plan in mind, no power or ability to do naught else but hide.
The wolf's touch suddenly surprised him, and he turned to look back at the creature's lowered head against his leg. Sympathy, from a wolf? ... and after deciding that he didn't care enough to differentiate from sympathy or pity, he fell to his knees, lifting a hand warily to brush his scarred and dirtied fingers briefly through the wolf's golden fur atop his head. Just once, so he didn't make the beautiful creature just as filthy as he himself was. ]

Yet no matter how much he wanted to, while Eliot was stuck in this beastly form, he had no way of doing anything besides offering a companionship. Reassurance if the human would accept that from a wolf, maybe a basic thing or two.
Ducking his head again to the soft touch of the human, he then turned his head to give the hand a light lick. He tasted blood there that matched the human's scent, and fear and sweat, all mixed amongst other things that he was yet still too unfamiliar with his wolf's senses to tell. Shaking his head, he sniffed his hand too.
He pulled away for a second and seemed to study the human, looking at him with his clear blue-grey eyes that were flecked through with yellow.
Who are you and where did you come from?
Thinking this information may help him decide what might be best for the man, he wasn't going to hand a wanted criminal to the hospital system, Eliot began poking his nose at the folds of the other's strange clothes seeing if he may be able to find some identity. ]

Loki knew the irony was thick with that, but it was best not to think about it. He had a friend. A wolf friend was better than a god friend.
He drew his hand back suddenly feeling the wolf's tongue lick his palm, a light flush that he couldn't explain spreading to his features. Then the wolf was sniffing his hand, and looking at him, nudging his nose against him. The god was confused, wondering what prompted it, but then he supposed that could be attributed to the blood and dirt staining his ripped clothing everywhere. It was only lightly covered in the dirt of this realm, after all, and perhaps the grounds of Asgard smelled different from here.
Unsure of what the wolf was trying to discover, if anything, Loki simply sat back and brought his knees to his chest. The wolf could sniff and inspect all he wanted, it wasn't as if Loki could tell him the answers he sought.
-- but perhaps, with a spell ... there was one he knew, one that could possibly let the wolf hear his voice in his head. He hadn't practiced it enough to know how well it would work, and his magic was limited now. And that was without even taking into account whether or not the wolf would understand him.
He would think about it, for another moment. If he could just remember the incantation ... and whether or not repeating the words required being said aloud or not. ]

He shook his head, finally withdrawing back from the weird smelling fabrics to look curiously at the man who wore them. Aside from the initial terror, the human hadn't shown any sign of fear for him. Who was he to not fear a wolf sniffing all over him?
There was an indignant moment where Eliot thought the stranger better not be mistaking him for a friendly hound. Especially when upon sitting back on his haunches, the stranger returned to petting him like one.
Seriously? Seriously?? Except it did feel somewhat nice, and those animal instincts in him made him want to loll his tongue and wag his tail.
He shook off Loki's hand, his wolf mentality, and everything else with a physical shake of his head. They needed to communicate somehow. To start off with, he got up and repositioned himself to sit directly next to the man. With a paw, he tried to go through the motions of writing the numbers... ]
...9 ...1 ...1 ...?
[ He had limited methods to ask him anything and hopefully, this wouldn't scare the man. ]

Well. Everything else.
Just soft, light touches for now, but then the wolf was ducking his head out of the way. Strange, the animal had seemed to enjoy them a moment ago. But, Loki supposed that every creature had their own measures of dignity.
The wolf had pulled away, so Loki did as well, holding his knees close to his chest. He watched as the wolf began to dig at the dirt beneath them, and he paused, curiously watching the motions. As if the wolf was ... trying to ...
Were those numbers?
Loki watched again, closely, before turning his head to meet the wolf's eyes. It was as if he was trying to say something ... but what? It was just a set of numbers--
Oh.
Hesitantly, Loki lifted a hand, gently touching his fingertips to the wolf's forehead. And he closed his eyes, hoping that the spell would work - and that the wolf would understand him - as his voice whispered softly.
I appreciate the compliment. But I am over a thousand years old, not nine hundred.
Hopefully it worked. ]

[ The words came out of nowhere, said directly into his head not through his ears, but in his thoughts. The voice was soft but definitely masculine. Everything about it screamed Foreign! to his mind.
Eliot's first reaction was to look around him bewildered, head swiveling left and right in rapid movement to look for the speaker. Finally they settled to stare at the man seated beside him who returned his confused blue gaze with intense crystal green stares.
The wolf's animal instincts kicked in then, taking over Eliot's in a rush of fear and danger calls as it picked up the invader. His pupils dilated to let the flecked gold in his blue irises grow until they became completely overtaken with yellow. There was danger threatening him, and the animal was reacting.
The wolf leaped to its feet, all four legs scrabbling back quickly in on the dirt to put some distance between himself and this strange man. He growled then, bearing all his teeth in a deeply pronounced warning for this strange human who invaded his mind. ]

Loki knew he should've known better. It was an animal, and doing something to frighten one would only lead to one of two outcomes. Fear, and running away, or fear and attacking. It would only be instinctual to anyone who didn't normally have voices in their heads to begin with.
As the wolf growled and moved away, the god scrambled to get to his feet. But the spell had taken more out of him than he had thought. He wasn't upright long, a dizzy spell rushing over him causing him to collapse back on the ground. He fought to catch his breath through his nose, clawing at the ground to try and push himself further away from the wolf.
He managed to draw close to the base of a tree, stumbling over an exposed root and curling up against the trunk. With another dose of unused magic, he summoned a knife, holding it close to his chest in case the wolf turned on him.
Damn it ... he should have known better. But then, wasn't this just his lot in life? A small happiness, and then it is ripped away.
Loki shut his eyes tight, recoiling further on himself and waiting for either the wolf's jaws sinking in to him or the sound of those heavy paws running in the other direction. ]

Yet, instead of that, a heady stench of fear abruptly invaded the area. It suddenly turned the dangerous predator —man— to injured prey —victim— and threw a shock into the wolf's system. It was enough to allow Eliot to slam his animal's instincts back into the mental cell he kept them in and make sure they didn't get out.
The yellow receded from his eyes with the disappearance of the animal, and for another while, he was Eliot, human, trapped in a beast's body again.
As soon as he regained his awareness, he was sorry for seeing how horribly shaken and weak the other man was in. He started to approach slowly and no longer growling but the person had fallen down and was scrabbling back against the trunk of a large tree. Still, he thought that perhaps with a slow approach he could show he didn't mean any harm anymore but then the strangest thing happened and... where had that knife come from?
Eliot was suddenly wary again. Something was off about the other man, the weapon, the speaking into his mind. And now that he thought about it, what did he say? Something about being over a thousand years old? Eliot would have dismissed it all as crazy talk if the man hadn't spoken in his mind and made a knife appear out of nowhere. That weapon came from nowhere, he knew, he had nosed through the man.
He wasn't sure he wanted to, dared to, touch the human anymore, but he couldn't leave things like this. Trying to go back to being nonthreatening by laying down on all fours, Eliot slowly poked out with his paw to nudge the other man. And whined softly.
On the dirt, he traced out the words with his paw. ]
...O ...K ...?
[ And damn, wolf joints weren't meant for writing. ]

But there was no sound of either just yet, so he continued to wait. And wait. His thoughts were swimming, revolving around everything he'd done up until this point, wondering if he would've ended up here regardless of changing the past. If he had never brought the frost giants into Asgard to disrupt the ceremony, perhaps he would still be in Asgard living as a prince.
Or as Thor's royal advisor or something, hell if he knew what would have happened.
The sudden nudge to his foot startled him. He jumped, grasping the knife tighter as he lifted his head, ready to strike and yet afraid to. The wolf had been kind to him first, he really didn't want to harm the creature.
But apparently, neither did the wolf. He seemed calmer now, back to looking concerned for him like before. Had he only startled him? And he was writing in the ground again, awkwardly but it was legible enough. Two letters, this time. "O," ... and "k." ... okay? The wolf was asking if he was okay?
... Loki shook his head, the knife disappearing so that he could pull his knees close to his chest, and hide his face in his arms. Kind as the animal was once again, the wolf didn't need to see a god's tears. ]

But now didn't seem the right time to contemplate it as the other man had curled up once more. The strong acrid smell of tears invaded his nose, and picking up the soft sobs wasn't even necessary to know the other was crying.
Emboldened by the other's weaker position, Eliot got up and approached the man —was he really human?— again. His wolf's sense of danger quieted down from the obvious distress signals sent by the other, so without needing to fight himself, he was able to get near.
But what was he going to do once he got to the man's side? He barely knew what to do for a crying woman, what was he to do for a crying man? And stuck as a wolf too.
Eliot stood beside him awkwardly, shifting his weight and debated between sitting down to wait or standing and keeping guard. He paced around too, all the while waiting for the other man to stop weeping. When that didn't work, he finally tried to nudge at man with his snout.
Please, please stop crying.
Not knowing what else to do, Eliot tried to settle himself as close as possible to the crying man, sitting down and practically leaning into him. Girls generally stopped when he wrapped his arms around them, so maybe he could just get in there as a wolf and it would work the same way. ]

He waited, and eventually that wave did pass. He still felt terrible, miserable beyond belief, but he was able to at least take one deep breath and calm his tears.
The wolf nudging him he had brushed off at first, too consumed in his despair, but when he felt the animal leaning a little more heavily against him, the god lifted his head from his arms. He rubbed at his eyes, wiping tears and dirt away, and glanced up at the wolf beside him. Was the wolf comforting him?
A little hesitantly, he leaned back gently against the wolf, giving a soft pat to his golden fur. He did appreciate the efforts, more than he would've from anyone else.
He didn't want to use that spell again, after the first time had frightened the wolf so. It made him dizzy and tired as well, and he didn't trust his ability to remain conscious after another attempt at magic just yet. But, since the wolf seemed to understand the general concept of words and letters, he thought he may as well try. He extended his hand, to write four letters in the dirt in front of them.
L ... o ... k ... i.
Perhaps the wolf would understand it was his name. ]

He lowered his head, brushing it against the man's arm when he realized the other was trying to write something. ...Loki. That was the man's name?
To communicate the question, Eliot reached a paw down to the words, then turned and again nudged the stranger with his nose. Then he looked up, blue eyes shining in the moonlight to wordlessly ask his question. Is that you?
He started writing on the ground above Loki's name. ]
...E ...L ...I .....
O...[ The first few letters of his name was easy with its straight lines, but when he got to the O again, he couldn't get it right, looking more like a scraggly diamond on his first attempt. Perhaps it was the further reach, but he couldn't repeat the one he drew earlier. So in frustration, he crossed it out and let out a soft grunt of frustration. ]

The wolf seemed to understand the point Loki was trying to get across, at least. That was helpful. The wolf nudged at him, gestured towards the name written in the dirt, as if he was asking whether it was his name there.
Loki nods his head, the barest hint of a smile curling the corners of his stitched lips. Yes, dear wolf. That is his name.
He then watched as the wolf then began to try the same, taking note of each letter written above his own. An "E," and then the others ... and some difficulty, it seemed. But perhaps he could help.
Shifting closer, Loki brought a hand to where the wolf had been writing, finishing the circle shape in the dirt. Just to help out a little, and then he drew back to let the wolf finish. ]

ELIO...T
[ And there they have it, introductions were made. It was the strangest meeting of individuals that ever happened, but Eliot could appreciate the effort placed in it.
After a while, his curiosity got the better of him and he began to reach out as if to start writing. With a glance up as if to alert Loki of what he was doing, he crossed out the space where Loki wrote his name to put in new letters in the dirt. ]
...M ...I ...N ...D ...?
[The "D" and the "?" came out better than his attempt at "O" did earlier, possibly because he wasn't trying to stretch his paw.
Surely, he hadn't been imagining things earlier. ]

LIfting his hand again, he traced the letters written there, helping to commit it to memory. He would whisper the name aloud if he could, but in his head would have to do for now.
Eliot.
A different name for a wolf than what Loki was used to, but like the wolf's colouring, it was a unique name. He liked it. It was only a pity that he couldn't actually call the wolf by that name, and likely would never have a use for it aside from writing in the dirt.
The wolf - Eliot - was writing again, and Loki watched him again. The word written puzzled him, for a moment. He wondered if Eliot was trying to ask him about that spell he'd tried earlier ... that would make sense, wouldn't it? It was the only mind-related thing he'd done thus far.
With a slight nod of his head, he shifted to face the wolf a little more properly. He gestured to himself at first, two fingers lightly tapping the side of his head, and then he hesitantly and carefully repeated the gesture at the wolf's head as well. His thoughts, what he wants to say, he can cast a spell to let the wolf hear them ... is what he hopes Eliot understands. ]

He stopped his writing and stared directly at Loki with his clear blue eyes as if by gazing directly at the man he could somehow ask his questions easier.
Who are you?
It was so strange, meeting this man with the sealed mouth who simply accepted wolves could write, that people could read minds, and was somehow over a thousand years old. Eliot didn't know what to think anymore.
When it was obvious that he was going to get nowhere with a staring contest, he broke the contact and returned to writing again. ]
...A ...G ...A ...I ...N ...?
[ And Eliot tried to nudge his head up against Loki's hand where he raised his two fingers earlier, attempting to prompt the man into speaking and communicating. He wasn't afraid, not when he knew to expect it. He can cage up the beast within if the creature tried to make him bolt.
Yet before Loki could start, Eliot drew on the dirt again. ]
