the soulmate meme

The Soulmate Meme |
In our world, the concept of soulmates is quaint, but frankly antiquidated. But somewhere out there, in the vast cosmos, there is a world that still values this tradition. No, not just values. Society is practically built around it. After all, they've found the powers of the soulmates. When they're together, both halves of the whole can find a peace that is desired by all; not only that, either, but also the two can unlock the. Everyone is believed to have a soulmate, and those who have yet to find there's a sense of emptiness that cannot be filled by other distractions. There are few limits on who can be destined for each other. The fates have often chosen people completely opposite of each other, some even on opposing sides or factions. Attraction between soulmates is instantaneous upon the first meeting, though relationship styles can very. It's almost always romantic, but sometimes not sexual, despite that usually being the case. Some even say that procreation can only be done by soulmates, but that's only a rumor and highly untested. Yet this bond is not always sunlight and rainbows. You'll practically feel each other emotions The problem, of course, comes in finding one (if you even want to at all, as some rebel against the system as much as they can). How many people are out there, and what's the probability of finding them in a lifetime? What if they're not in the same country or even the same planet! There's also the dilemma of having only one soulmate. Though people can have plenty of lovers, those in this world can only find true satisfaction from their other half. It's a twisted and difficult web, and sometimes unmatched people can face prejudice from those around them and the established order, but finding that one special person is said to trump all of that. HOW TO PLAY: 1. Comment with your character 2. Reply around, using whatever option you want OR the RNG. 3. Play out some threads. Be soulmates, friends, other lovers, etc. |
Prompts |
1. First Meeting: You'll feel the spark almost on first sight. Yes, he's not your type. No, she's is a villain and your a hero. It doesn't matter. You can't chose these things. 2. Not Accepting: No, this person can't be it! They're so...so not what you've expected! 3. We Belong Together: You've decided to come together, like it's intended, and you're reaping the benefits. 4. The two of you are cementing your bond in the most traditional of ways, and you'll soon learn that sex with others can't compare to sex with someone who's completely yours. 5. Stronger as Two: In battle or in life, the two of you combined are unstoppable. 6. There's Someone Else You've met your soulmate...but you're with someone else. Maybe you can protect or save the other. 8. Not Fortune's Fool: You're flying solo. You have no intention of becoming a matched pair. Forget about what anybody else says, just focus on you. 9. And that was when he'd noticed the gorgeous waitress.
...and he kept coming back, and kept coming back, and one day he'd finally said to the waitress, "Hi, I'm Leonard."
It hadn't gone to anything physical yet, but the tension hung heavily between them, and Leonard felt like he was cheating anyway, even without having touched her.
He settled in to what had become 'his' booth and searched the back for Ruby, picking up his newspaper absently.

Ruby was well known throughout the town as a flirt, if only because it was one of the few things that she truly felt like she was any good at. Sometimes they would flirt back, sometimes they wouldn't, but it almost always garnered her a bigger tip than the rest of the girls. Of course, the shorts and cropped shirts even in the most inappropriate weather probably didn't hurt.
But with this mean, Leonard he'd finally introduced himself as, she found herself hoping he would flirt back. Looking forward to his visits a little more every day and, whether he sat in her section or not, she always made sure that she was his waitress, if only to get to spend a little more time around him. She wasn't oblivious to that ring on his finger, but talking...flirting...that was harmless, right?
In the back filling up the ketchup dispensers when he came in, she knew as soon as that bell went off over the door who had come in, and she had to force herself to finish her actual job, and not just run out front. Thankfully by now, most of the other girls had taken the hint, and left him alone. When she finally did approach his table, more eager now than she had been all day, it was all swaying hips and bright smiles. Totally innocent.
"You just can't stay away, can you?"

"Best coffee in town. There must be something secret you put in it."

That nearness was a mistake, though. From this distance, she was certain he'd be able to hear her heart beating, racing erratically in her chest. Clearing her throat softly, she straightened just as a faint blush started rising in her cheeks. "I'll just go get that for you, then."
no subject
"Um, yeah, thanks. Room for cream."
no subject
So, can I get you anything else? I can come back if you need more time.

Like you, his brain added cheerfully, and he chased that away.

"You know, you're kind of adorable when you blush like that." Every now and then her mouth managed to move faster than a brain. This? This would be one of those times.

...wait. Crap. He'd said that part aloud. Goddammit.

Teeth pulling at her lower lip, one brow arched slowly and her voice lowered. After all, this wasn't necessarily something the entire diner needed to be able to hear. "You think I'm pretty, huh?"
no subject
"Yeah, well." He tried to sound grouchy. "You are. It's just a thing."
no subject
Lips quirked up into a devious little smirk, one long leg crossed over the other as she searched his face. "So why do you sound so upset about that?"
no subject
"It's not exactly an acceptable thing for married men to tell other women they're pretty."
no subject
"It's not a crime to think another girl's pretty, is it? It's not like you did anything....inappropriate."
