rain rain go away;

the rain meme
Ah, rain—the precipitation that the whole world has a love/hate affair with. It waters the garden for free and ruins baseball games. It cools you off in the summer and it causes more ice and sleet to appear in the winter. Sometimes it is lovely and falls at a decent pace for a few hours, other times, it blasts the whole eastern seaboard away.
Poems and songs have been written about it, people have danced in it, others have cursed its entire existence, and still more refuse to go out and drive in it.
Now it’s time to roll some dice and see what the weather will have in store for you today.

intensity
1. DRIZZLE ☂ It’s not too heavy or too light of a downpour, just enough to wash away stuff in the air, water the ground, and clean up the streets.
2. MONSOON ☂ It’s horrible and awful! Rain is coming down in buckets, no one can get anywhere, the wind is whipping everything about, and now the cable is out.
3. SHOWER ☂ Reminds you of early spring, doesn’t it? A nice shower to make everything all green and smell fresh again. Lovely.
4. FLOOD ☂ While rain is good, it can sometimes be bad. Grab a boat!
5. CATS & DOGS ☂ You’re lucky with this one. It’s not the worst storm in the world, but it’s still pretty heavy. Be careful when driving!
prompts
1. A DARK, STORMY NIGHT ☂ You know all those stories that start off with a stormy night before something goes wrong: a murder, an attack by ninjas, a crime. It is one of the best known clichés in the world, and you’re stuck in the middle of it.
2. HUMIDITY ☂ It’s that time of the year again when the humidity rises and the rain has two options: make it worse or make it go away. Good luck getting the latter.
3. GRAY RAIN OF DEPRESSION ☂ We all know this one. Stuck in the middle of no where, or right after an argument, or something that leads to angst, the rain decides to express someone’s feelings in a physical form, serious or over the top.
4. QUIET MORNING ☂ Nothing to do, nowhere to be… sometimes the rain is a welcomed addition to a quiet day. Gives you an excuse to stay in, curl up in a warm blanket and a book, maybe a loved one or a cup of hot chocolate. With sprinkles.
5. PUDDLES ☂ After it rains, what is the number one thing you have to do? Go put on some rubber boots and splash around of course!
6. SUDDEN STORM ☂ It might have been predicted, but sometimes storms just sweep in and do their thing with little to no warning. Hope you’re not outside.
7. THUNDER & LIGHTNING ☂ Loud, surprising, scary, ominous, comforting, fantastic to watch or listen to… some like thunder and lightning, others not so much. Of course, if this happens before a big confrontation, the universe is telling you something.
8. CAN’T GET WORSE ☂ You did not say that. You did not just say that. How many times does this need to be seen in movies and books before anyone learns?
9. STUCK ☂ No, no, no, no. This cannot be happening. What happened to the ten percent chance of rain? You forgot your umbrella and now you’re stuck in it!
10. RUINED PLANS ☂ You had all these wonderful plans to go outside, have some fun in the sunshine, do some errands, maybe a date… and the weather goes against them.
11. DANCING ☂ Sometimes rain is a cause for celebration, or you just feel like doing something spontaneous. Grab someone to join you and get wet!
12. RAIN BATTLE ☂ The most intense, important battles happen in the rain. Verbal spars, punching someone in the guts; it’s all dramatic and climatic. And no one slips.
13. DATE ☂ Aww, don’t let the weather ruin your date! It can be really romantic, being out in the rain, and it’s always fun to go with the flow.
14. A DAY INSIDE ☂ Sometimes, it’s just better to stay inside and enjoy something simple and easy like board games or catching up on TV shows, or maybe the bills.
15. WILD CARD ☂ Was there something I missed? Did you want to roll again or choose your own adventure? Go for it!

soppy wet Shiro delivery. did you want to sign for him?
Just the way Shiro enjoyed them. Before Kerberos, he would have enjoyed it by staying inside with a nice hot drink and a good book, windows cracked to let the damp gusts in, feeling the thunder through the bones of the house. These days...?
These days he enjoyed being out in the storm more. Feeling it against his skin, the buffet of the wind, the thunder down through his bones when the lightening broke across the sky. It -
it reminded him that he was alive. Home. When it rained on him hard enough to sting... he was real. And maybe it drove some of the unnatural purple dark lightning out of him...
Tonight though... tonight he'd felt a tug. And he hadn't really questioned it or asked himself why. He'd just followed it and that was how, with a little bit of stealth, he'd ended up outside her window, which was probably a little more unorthodox than simply signing in at the gate. But - the storm was high tonight and the wind and rain were driving and -
he tapped on the closed window with his knuckles before he could ask himself why.]
a l w a y s
Tonight, it's the latter that Hana is partaking in. With a storm coming through like this, even attempting to sleep is futile, she thinks, and so she settles into the bean bag in front of her television and gets lost in a different world for a while--
Until the sound of something knocking on her window startles the controller right out of her hands, and after a strike of lightning, she can see the silhouette of a person at the window cast across her floor. Slowly, she turns, half-ready to call for help from Jack or Pharah or Reinhardt, half-wondering where on earth she'd kept her blaster.
And then she sees that it's Shiro. ]
What the--
[ Before she knows it, she's scrambling from her seat and nearly tripping over a stuffed animal or five to get to the window. Exertion flashes across her face as she hooks her fingers onto the latch and slides the thing open, all the while trying not to get blown over by the gust that blasts through. ]
Shiro?! What the heck are you doing? Hurry up and get in!
no subject
He's going to drip all over her floor if he goes in.
He's just realizing he probably should have simply called instead.
The lightning snaps across the sky like lines in a broken egg shell behind him and he takes the hint as the next wave of rain pelts him, easing into her room in the space she makes available for him, boots touching her floor with a quiet thump before he lets go and reaches back to pull her window shut.
There's already a puddle at his feet and its only growing.
But his eyes are alive and he's smiling as he turns back to her, a wide, unrepentant grin that might be a little goofy.]
Thanks.
no subject
[ The look she levels at him is equal parts confused, impressed, and concerned. Because he just made breaking into an Overwatch watchpoint (Overwatchpoint?) seem easy, but also... Why? She wipes the rain that had hit her face with the sleeve of her oversized sweatshirt before she folds her arms, tilting her head at him curiously. In spite of herself, she can't help but smile a little from that look on his face. ]
Dude, you know it's raining, right? [ then, at least, she just chuckles. ] Why are you here?
no subject
[He runs fingers through his short hair, shaking raindrops down around him but it just feels - good. It feels so good. So good feeling alive like this, so good to be alive, and - and so good to be where he is. He's taught himself not to question moments like that, when the joy sweeps over him, when things feel right. To simply live in the moment. He can always question it later. So he shakes his head a little, scattering droplets of water and rubs the worst of it from his eyes with a hand.]
Thought I'd come see you. [The smile he gives her is crooked. He knows he hasn't gone about it the most sane way. But at least she's laughing about it. That should count for something, right?] Mind if I borrow a towel?
no subject
She's already walking backwards towards the door to her room as he's asking his question, shrugging her shoulders. ]
Yeah, yeah. Just try not to drip on anything that looks electronic, okay? Then I'll get really mad!
[ Still, her voice has a playful ring to it and she winks at him before going out the door and closing it, leaving Shiro in Hana's rather cluttered room. But to give the lady some credit, for the amount of time she'd been living at this base, she's already brought so much to make the space uniquely hers: mostly posters and cute bedding, stuffed animals, lots of things with a bunny motif, and of course her monster of a PC and multiple gaming consoles lined up below the TV.
She's back after a few minutes of searching for a towel and explaining to Mercy what the brief racket in her room was right outside Hana's door to which she responds, a friend came over, and going back into her room without any further explanation. Immediately, she throws the towel at Shiro--, ]
Think fast!
no subject
It just seems safer to stay in one place.
It's a small enough room for that though and he takes a slow inventory of it. Somehow he's not at all surprised by the fact she's made it so homey. His... isn't. But then again, there hadn't been a lot of shopping time in the past year or so and since coming back -
since he's come back he's been slow about adding anything. Knowing he may have to leave at any moment. Leave it all behind again. He hasn't even tried to get any of his old books out of whatever storage the Garrison put it into when he vanished.
Meloncholy thoughts and he's glad for the storm howling outside. He's more glad when the door opens and instead of guards bursting in, its just Hana threatening him with a towel.
Which he catches out of the air with a grin and proceeds to run over his short hair. His voice comes out a bit muffled:]
I'm not going to cause too much of a problem being here, am I?
no subject
Nah. And if they don't like it then we can go somewhere else!
[ Especially since Shiro seems to have no problems with going somewhere when it's pouring out. ]
I can't believe you came all the way out here in the rain like that.
no subject
Well, I was out in it anyway. And, like I said, I wanted to see you. [The smile he gives her is a bit sheepish and he gives his hair one more ruffle with the towel before settling it over his shoulders.] It made a lot more sense at the time. [Outside the sky cracks in two with a bolt of lightning and the smash of thunder. Shiro's eyes move back to her monitor and the game paused on its screen.] I didn't wake you up.
no subject
I didn't feel like going to sleep yet!
[ Finally letting her arms drop to her sides, she nods her head in the direction of the paused game screen and the bean bag chair in front of it and smiles, a little sheepish herself. ]
Come on, you don't have to just stand there the whole time.
no subject
Except apparently they do.
Everyone's got vulnerabilities. Shiro understands that. It's just - too bad storms are one of hers...
Which makes it a good thing they're not one of his. Because that means he can be here for her during them and distract her. For a moment, his voice drops, soft and low.]
I don't sleep much either. [Sock feet head over to the bean bag she indicated and he settles down next to it, crossing long legs, resting his hands loose over his thighs. He tips his chin toward the game.] What were you playing?
no subject
Well, prepare to stay up with me, then!
[ Hana's bare feet pad across the floor to join him, dropping herself onto her bean bag. She runs a hand through her hair to pull it all over to one shoulder and tucks a few strands behind her ear. And with one foot tucked under a leg and the other outstretched toward the screen, she takes up her controller in her hands once more and unpauses the game. A rather pleasant tune starts to play and the screen now shows a character in the center-- Hana's avatar, dressed in her favorite colors of pink and blue --standing in a field of crops. ]
Nothing too crazy! It's just a farming game. [ She shrugs. ] But it's fun and quiet and really cute. Wanna see my farm?
no subject
For the moment though, it was just a storm and a very long legged Hana and both of those were more than welcome in his world.
He wasn't sure why bare feet would make her look younger and more adorable - but they did and for a moment, while she settled back down in her seat he let his eyes simply take her in and fill up with her. It was much more distracting and enjoyable than anything the screen could offer.
But he still dutifully turned his attention to it when she started talking, dragging his eyes away from the rumble of her hair.]
Sure. [He shifted to rest one arm on the side of her beanbag. Video games were - not really a skill he could lay any claim to. He'd played, a few and he wasn't entirely media blind so he had a general working knowledge of at least the bigger names. Most of his team enjoyed playing them so he'd picked up a bit through osmosis as well. But he wasn't even going to pretend he was anywhere near Hana's level of knowledge.
In fact, he was going to have fun not being. And maybe provide a distraction from the outside storm along the way as well. With his human hand he gestured.]
If everyone in the game bunnies or is that just you?
[He could be wrong if it turns out to be something other than what he assumes she means but - the fact she's playing a farming game is utterly endearing.]
no subject
By now, Hana's used to being around people who aren't necessarily in tune with the entire culture around gaming or don't take it as seriously as she does. A few of the younger members of Overwatch, like Lúcio and Tracer and JR, do play with her now and then, but even they're hard to catch between other commitments, too. Most of them aren't even around right now, whether it's away on a mission or other engagements. Needless to say, Hana's pretty glad for the company tonight, and she smiles rather proudly at Shiro as she starts to steer the avatar on screen around the farm to show him all the crops and fields for animals and the house that she's built up. That she's spent hours building up, no doubt. ]
The bunny's mine! The game devs made it especially for me, actually.
[ Perks to being a pro gamer, apparently. ]
Anyway, this is my farm! Right now it's springtime in the game so I'm growing a lot of flowers. And I have a bunch of chickens and cows and a dog and a horse. I named them all after the Overwatch guys! [ She giggles. ] Don't tell them.
no subject
He also likes her closeness, not doing anything at all to shift away from her. Whatever she washed her hair with smells nice and she's a soft, warm presence and - he finds it soothing even though he hadn't realized he'd been tensed. He hadn't been tense. It's - balming. Against wounds he knows he's got inside of himself. Soothing to those ragged openings that have never closed right.
Coming here tonight was the right thing to do. He's glad he followed the urge. Her giggle has his own grin coming out and he turns his head to look at her.]
I won't. But only if you promise to tell me if you ever name any of your farm animals after me.
no subject
She turns her head to meet Shiro's gaze, as well, but for a moment she casts a sidelong glance at the screen and looks thoughtful, humming in the meantime. ]
Hmm... I could get a rabbit and name you after one right now. A white one. [ Then she looks back at him with a smile. ] Shiro means white in Japanese, doesn't it?
no subject
And he enjoys the way she doesn't move away either. He wasn't sure what he'd do when he showed up, whether he should offer to treat her to that meal he'd promised or - what. But sitting in her room playing video games seemed - surprisingly contenting.
He did glance back at the screen at her comment though. He doesn't mind being a rabbit in her world, especially not when she seems so fond of them but -
One side of his mouth starts to slide upward crooked and his eyes curve. There's a certain amount of pleasure in his voice as he asks:]
How'd you find that out?
no subject
I've watched a lot of anime!
[ Would anyone have expected any less from a total geek like Hana, really. And if reminded of how he's promised her a meal, well. There's always pizza delivery.
She can't help but chuckle at how delighted he sounded at her knowing the meaning of his name. Hana wouldn't deny the fact that having Shiro around on a night like this has been a pleasant surprise. Emphasis on surprise. They might have exchanged contact info after they'd first met, but she had thought that it would be virtually impossible for them to really see each other again. But here he is, on a crazily stormy night, watching her play video games. It... was really nice of him to do this, and she finds herself unable to stop smiling. Nowadays, it's rare for Hana to make a (real life, not-virtual) friend outside of Overwatch and the military.
After a beat, she asks: ]
Do you know what 'Hana' means in the Korean language?
no subject
It still makes him feel pleasantly warm in his chest that she paid attention enough to his name to remember the meaning.
He knows what 'hana' means in Korean. He knows because he looked it up after he met her, curious to see if it meant the same thing in her language that it did in his. Not even close, but he likes all the same. Finds it suspiciously suitable for her and knows that thinking that way is a good way to get himself in trouble.]
His smile stays in place and he looks at her with eyes that might be happy but don't give away his secret.]
Tell me?
no subject
It means number one!
[ And she tops that off with a wink at him. As Shiro can see, Hana was destined to be The Best the moment she was given that name. ]
And don't you forget it, okay?
no subject
Got it. Won't forget. You're the one. [His eyes curve and he asks:] Now show me how to buy a bunny in your game.
no subject
Jeez, don't need to boss me around. [ She says it jokingly and punctuates it with a laugh, at least, and then she's off into game land, moving her bunny avatar across her lovingly-tended virtual farm and to a different screen, where she enters someone's house to buy a bunny from them. As promised, she names it Shiro. ]
And now you're going to be a cute bunny in my game. You're gonna have to share the coop with the other bunnies, though. Genji and Tracer. Oh, and the chickens and the ducks and the dinosaur.
[ Because yes, apparently you can have a dinosaur as a farm animal in this game. ]
no subject
He wonders, wistfully, if the bunny will last longer in her life or if he will. It's a longing thought, realizing that they've already been here longer than he'd thought they'd be able to and that Voltron is always on call.]
I have to share a coop with a ninja and a time hopper? [He frowns and gives it some thought but then nods. All right. But what kind of dinosaur? Because, as a bunny, I might be allergic.
no subject
Yeah you do! Genji and Tracer are nice, though. They play games with me sometimes.
[ Genji especially, having been a bit of a gamer himself in his youth. Hana steers her avatar back to her farm, and enters the coop in question. Sure enough, there are a few chickens, some ducks, a dinosaur, and now three bunnies including the one named Shiro. ]
I don't know what kind of dinosaur it is? That one's Lúcio because he made me promise he'd be a dinosaur. He's really nice so, you guys are definitely gonna get along. No allergies allowed!
if memebers of her team aren't listening at the door I will be very surprised lol
she'll shoo them away if they are
