[Always part of Wonderland. Alice was starting to think that meant Jack was just going to call her to come help out whenever he had a problem that he couldn't deal with. What was it about Wonderland and needing a girl named Alice, anyway?]
no subject
Home sweet home, eh? Nothing quite like Wonderland...
[At least somebody's glad to be back]
no subject
Still don't know what people here have against building a city on the ground. [Sigh] Jack wasn't clear about what he wanted... something about a Cheshire?
no subject
Just look at me, remember?
[He gives her an encouraging smile, placing himself firmly between her and the edge]
Cheshire cat. Causing trouble again, is he?
no subject
How could I forget?
[She looks thrown for a minute, and then, slowly]
He's an actual cat?
no subject
[Hatter pulls a face, waving a hand]
Sometimes.. Sometimes he's a cat.
no subject
no subject
Yes, sometimes, sometimes he's... something else.
[He says it like it's obvious, typical blasé wonderlander, like he's surprised Alice has to even ask.]
Shall we go find out what Jack wants you to do about it?
no subject
[She's asking in a dull voice, because she already knows the answer. And there's a shrug]
The message mentioned something about Nine Kingdoms? I know Looking Glass travel is going between worlds, so I shouldn't be picky, but have any of you considered cell phones?
no subject
[He pulls a face, waving a hand vaguely]
Most? Maybe not, but he's no walk in the park, I'll put it that way.
[He starts to walk until she speaks again and he freezes, turning back to her slowly]
...The nine kingdoms? His message definitely said the nine kingdoms?
no subject
Um, yeah. Nine kingdoms, something about it being a political mess...?
no subject
Ha. Yes. When isn't it?
[He turns to carry on, muttering irritably to himself]
The nine kingdoms, well that's just great isn't it, Cheshire and the nine kingdoms, and us. Brilliant.
no subject
[She reaches out and touches his shoulder, concern etched on her face]
What's wrong?
no subject
I don't know what's going on, but if Cheshire's skipped through the looking glass and is raising havoc in the nine kingdoms then we've got a lot of trouble on our hands. You think wonderland's bad? Wonderland's a picnic compared to the nine kingdoms. Tracking down Cheshire in a land that full of magic? I don't know why Jack thinks we're the best people for this.
no subject
That's ... a good question. [She pulls the note out from the pocket, and hands it over. Half of it is smudged, like something was spilled on it. That's how it arrived to Alice] But it says Nine Kingdoms and says we need to go to the Looking Glass that they can control.
no subject
[Hatter turns the note over a couple of times with a frown, trying to decipher it]
let me guess... we're to go straight to the looking glass with nothing more than this note to guide us? [he mutters something derogatory about Jack] I think this is just search and retrieval, from what I can tell. Somebody should be waiting when we get to the other side to tell us what they know. At least I hope they will.
no subject
[Yeah, that wasn't fun having that explained to her. Being Alice and going to Wonderland = weirdness that you can't explain]
no subject
[Ah. Realisation dawns on Hatter's face]
It's because you're Alice. He wants the nine kingdoms to think we're taking this seriously.

My guess? Yes and no. It's not good politically, but it gets Cheshire out of Wonderland for a while.
I think he expects you to succeed eventually, he knows how resourceful you are, he's seen you in action after all. But this way, he looks like he's putting his best person on it and keeps the nine kingdoms off his back, but he also gets to enjoy having Cheshire out of his way until we finally catch him
