That's right, it's time for that kiss at midnight! Whether you're compelled to give it by some unseen force or you just really want to kiss the person next to you, now is the time to go for it! Maybe some other kind of fireworks will fly tonight, who knows.

It's the New Year's tradition. Apparently anyways. Riku isn't exactly familiar with it, but he spent most of his childhood dreaming about far away worlds. Of sword fighting and adventuring.

He looks around, and Sora's the only one out the group he'd want to kiss. Which, no offense to the rest of Restoration committee, but he's caught himself thinking about kissing Sora a couple times, and this seems to be a good enough excuse to act on it.

"Hey, Sora," he said as he stepped closer to his friend and the count down to the new year started. Ten seconds to go. "Happy New Year." And when Yuffie yelled 'Zero!' he leaned down and lightly placed his lips on Sora's.

It's a tradition Sora's only kind of aware of because other people have talked about it. He hadn't actually planned on upholding any such tradition or anything because, well, no one had said you had to and kissing someone just for the heck of it seemed like kind of a strange tradition, anyway.

When Riku steps up to him, he's instantly beaming. Ringing in the new year with his best friend was always a good way to start things off. And he barely manages to get out a "Happy New Year, Riku!" in response before the shout of zero and Riku's leaning down. It doesn't take but a split second for him to realize what's going to happen, there's certainly time to stop it if he wants to.

He doesn't. Instead he lets the initial surprise turn into something more exciting, the anticipation for something new and something that Riku's willingly sharing with him. He leans up to close the distance, the press of lips firmer than the light kiss Riku had started with. Admittedly, this is also done partially to throw Riku off-guard and surprise him because that's always kind of fun to do for Sora. But it's also just really nice.

Sora responds to the kiss better than Riku expected, and it does throw him off a little, but instead of backing off he goes with it, meeting Sora in firmness and feeling like he's melting into the kiss.

Instinctively his arms come and wrap around Sora's waist, pulling him close. So, this was kissing Sora was like. It was a little clumsy, he didn't have much in the way kissing except a few pecks shared with Kairi before they turned ten, so those didn't count. And he was pretty sure Sora had the same or less experience. But still, Riku felt like he could keep kissing Sora like this forever.

Of course, they couldn't and he pulled back, cheeks flushed, a smile on his lips and in his eyes as he looked at his best friend. "Uh, happy New Year," he repeated.

Sora's equally as flushed when Riku pulls back from the kiss, and he keeps his arms where he'd wrapped them loosely around Riku's neck, smiling up at him. He echoes the words, again, though quietly enough that they're kind of swallowed up by the ruckus of celebration around them. Was anyone else even paying attention to them, did they see the kiss? Who knows, and who cares? Sora doesn't.

He laughs, gives a curious tilt of his head. Finally catches his breath that had been stolen by the brief kiss in order to speak in a normal tone. "There wasn't anyone else here you woulda rather kissed?"

"No," Riku answered. "Just you." He looked away for a moment, then looked back at Sora. He was suddenly very aware that they were still holding onto each other. And he had no interest in letting go. "Just you, Sora."

He paused. "I, uh, I've been thinking about kissing you for awhile."

All around them the restoration committee partied. He didn't think anyone was paying attention. Maybe Leon had noticed. "Was there someone else you would have rather kissed?"

"Oh." Somehow, Riku's admission about having thought about kissing him for a while surprises him more than the actual kiss did. Though the look of stunned awe on his face is fairly brief, replaced by a smile that speaks volumes of his admiration for the other teen. And that depth of feeling is only mirrored in his eyes. "Really? I didn't know."

He tightens his arms a bit around Riku, and hesitates for less than a second before he leans up and quickly kisses him again. "Nope. I'd never really thought about it. But I'm real glad you did!"

That was such a Sora answer that Riku couldn't help but laugh before kissing him again. "I'm glad too."

This is kiss is already nicer than the last. If kissing gets better like this every time you kiss than Riku just wants to keep Sora forever. Well, that was kinda the plan to begin with.

He pulled back, and cups Sora's cheek. "I've, um, been trying to figure stuff out. And tonight just seemed like the best night to try."

Sora leans into the hand cupping the side of his face, bringing one of his own hands up to keep it there. Then he looks at Riku curiously, taking in what he's said. "Figuring stuff out? You mean about me?"

"Sorta, it was mostly me being dumb," Riku admitted. He's getting better about the whole guilt thing.
