New life

Being with someone can change your life. But what if you can't have your old life back? For your own sake, the sake of your relationship, or by no choice of your own, you have to leave the old you behind. It can go from anything to changing a behavior to changing your whole identity, and all of it can be difficult. One thing is clear, however; to continue where or as you'd lived before is not an option if you want to keep this person you care for in your life.

[Okay, so maybe Stiles should've given Scott a heads up that he was taking him out of town for his own safety instead of letting him think they were just going to the movies. At the very least Stiles should have remembered to pack some of Scott's clothes and maybe clear the whole thing with his mom, but he was panicking when it came up with this plan and hadn't really had the time to think it through.

He's not sure what he's going to say when Scott finally asks him why it's taking them hours to get to the movie theater.]

[It's pretty obvious after about an hour and a half of driving away from Beacon Hills and then out of Beacon County that they are...not going to the movies. He doubts that they're driving this far just to go to see a movie in some other town. And given how well he knows Stiles, he knows that he's still freaking out about the whole supernatural deadpool. In fact, he's pretty sure he's been kidnapped by his best friend/boyfriend.]

So...where exactly are we going?

[Stiles is hoping Scott thinks he's taking him to a movie far away. That they needed to leave the county to see this movies so they could hold hands and make out without anyone seeing them. But Stiles has been acting really sketchy from the moment they got in the jeep. Stiles really didn't think this plan all the way through.]

To... the movies? Yeah, we're going to see a movie together. Because that's what friends do. That's what boyfriend do too. See movies. Far away from home.

[He gives Stiles a skeptical look. He may be sort of naive in a lot of ways, but he's not naive when it comes to the boy beside him. He's known him way too long and way too well for that.]

Stiles.

[Okay, so apparently Scott's not buying the movie excuse. That's fine. Stiles is creative. He can think of other reasons they're driven away from Beacon Hills. It's just that his mind is coming up blank at the moment.]

Would you believe me if I said I'm sleep walking right now? Sleep driving, I mean? Because that might be what's happening.

[He's definitely not buying the movie excuse. And when Stiles starts talking about sleep-driving, he sighs a little.]

I think you're kidnapping me. That's what I think is happening. [He doesn't sound mad about it, just matter-of-fact.]

[Aaand it looks like Scott figured out what's actually going on here. Stiles can't tell if this didn't work because he's slipping or if it's just that Scott knows him too well.]

Is that what you think? I would never do that! But hypothetically, if I did kidnap you, how would you react?

[It's definitely the latter.]

Dude, you'd totally do that. You're totally doing that. [He glances at him and cocks an eyebrow.]

I'd say that I love you, and I know you're freaking out so I get why you're kidnapping me, but...we have to go back.

[None of this is going as planned. Possibly because Stiles hadn't had time to come up with an actual decent plan.]

Listen, you got in the jeep all on your own. I didn't chloroform you and toss you in. This doesn't count as kidnapping. [But Stiles is still avoiding his eyes at the moment.]

We're not going back. We're going away. Far away. As far as San Francisco.

I got in under false pretenses. I think that counts.

[He gives Stiles a knowing look. See? He pays attention when you tell him things. Not that he would ever in a billion years try to get Stiles into trouble of any kind, let alone for kidnapping.]

Stiles. We can't just leave Beacon Hills, man. What about your dad? And my mom? And like...Lydia? Kira? Malia? Derek?

I'll take you to a movie eventually, so no, it doesn't. And you're thinking about this the wrong away. I didn't kidnap you. We're running away together. It's romantic.

[Stiles is still hoping he'll be able to convince him this is a good idea, so he's ignoring Scott's logic for now.]

Our parents are human and aren't actually in any danger. As for the others, I was thinking maybe we could talk them into coming to San Fransisco too.

[He kinda can't help but smile at that, even as he side eyes Stiles again.]

Okay, but Beacon Hills? It's always dangerous. And what if whoever these assassins are decides to try and draw us back by like, taking hostages?

Okay, then clearly we need to talk our parents into coming along too. It'll be fine.

[Okay, so maybe that won't be as easy as Stiles makes it sound. In fact, he's pretty sure he's going to be grounded the moment his dad finds out what he did.]

[Scott looks much less convinced that it's all going to be fine than Stiles sounds. He kind of doubts Stiles is as convinced as he sounds, for that matter.]

Stiles, we can't just run.

[Stiles isn't as convinced as he sounds but he doesn't know what else to do and running seems like the logical thing to do at the moment.]

Why not? Aren't you sick of this? Aren't you sick of always having your life in danger?

[He feels a pang at the tone of Stiles' voice. He is sick of the constant stress. Of everyone he loves being in danger. He knows Stiles is too. And part of him really does just want to say the hell with it and get out of Beacon Hills for good. The other part knows it's not going to happen. It can't. He's the Alpha. He's responsible for keeping the town safe. It doesn't matter that he's only seventeen. This is what life has handed them.]

Yeah, man, of course. But...our entire lives are in Beacon Hills. And people are in danger and they need our help. I'm not just talking about the pack.

[Stiles doesn't want to admit it, but he knows Scott's right. They can't just leave everyone to deal with things on their own. They can't leave everyone to die. They have responsibilities and lives in Beacon Hills that they can't leave no matter how much they might want to. This plan was never going to work anyway. They're both minors with zero experience with being on their own. Still, he's not ready to turn back yet.]

Okay, I know. You're right. We have to go back. But... does it really have to be right now? Can't we have just one day without all the bullshit and danger and angry baby betas?

[He watches Stiles as the realization begins to settle on him and he reaches out and squeezes his shoulder lightly.]

Yeah. I think we can have one day without all of that.

[He hopes anyway.]

[Stiles relaxes a little when he feels Scott's hand squeezing his shoulder. At least all the driving hasn't been a complete waste.]

Good, so then San Francisco? Or we could just find a motel around here, maybe get lunch and relax for the rest of the day?

[Scott nods, smile flickering over his mouth.]

Yeah, either one is fine with me. But...we should probably at least text our parents and let them know we're okay.

[Stiles is getting a little tired of driving so he figures they can find a place for the night somewhere close by. It'll mean less time on the road tomorrow than if they go all the way to San Fransisco.]

Wait, where are we going to tell them we are? They think we're seeing a movie.

Well, I'd say we could tell them we were camping, but considering last time...

[He smirks at Stiles and shakes his head.] I'm going with the truth. Mostly. I'm just gonna tell my mom we needed a short break from Beacon Hills. She'll probably be glad.

Yeah, I'm not sure they'd buy that this time around. Or ever again really.

[Stiles glances over at him.] Don't tell her about the kidnapping thing. It'd be cool if my boyfriend's mom didn't start hating me for abducting her son.

Dude. Of course I'm not gonna say that. I don't really want you to get grounded. Plus I did get in the jeep willingly.

[He pauses.]

And seriously...there's no way my mom could ever hate you.
