wake up, wake up, it's only a bad dream meme

bad dreams are ordeals, sometimes seemingly endless. when you wake up, your heart pounds, your head hurts, and you end up drenched in sweat. even if you know none of it was real, it takes a while to orient yourself. it is pretty nice to have someone there to wake you up or to soothe you out of it and remind you that... it's only a dream. ••• the usual rules apply. post with your character and preferences and then tag around, have your characters comfort others.

[It's a good thing that Etera sleeps like a rock half the time, because his brother wasn't having such a restful night's sleep. Somewhere in the middle of the night he had begun tossing and turning violently, his limbs getting tangled in the blankets as he tried to pull himself from whatever dream he was having...it was one of those, where you knew you were asleep, but couldn't get yourself to wake up.

He doesn't even come to when he starts to yowl in his sleep, his fangs flashing in the darkness and his claws swiping at nothing in the air, as if trying to fight off some invisible beast attacking him in his sleep.]

[That yowl wakes Rongo up immediately. It's a sound he hasn't heard for a long time, but the instinctual worry has never left. He practically leaps out of bed, rushing to Atawhai's side.]

Ata! Ata, wake up!

[Gently, he shakes the caracal's shoulder, making sure to keep out of the way of those swiping claws.]

[winterbolt]

[Atawhai awoke with a violent start, looking around wildly in the darkness until he spotted his brother looming before him.]

...Rongo...?

[ahowltolightthedark]

[Rongo squeezes Ata's shoulder, giving his younger brother something firm to know he's all right.]

You all right?

[winterbolt]

I....yeah. Yeah I'm ok. ...did I wake you up?

[ahowltolightthedark]

You did, but I don't mind.

[winterbolt]

[Atawhai sat up a bit straighter and shook his head, dimly noticing that he'd nearly tangled himself up in his blankets while he'd been sleeping.]

Figures I wouldn't wake Etera up. He'd sleep through an earthquake..

He'd sleep through one even if he was causing it.

[Rongo eyes the other twin, snoozing peacefully as could be.]

If only we could sleep that well.

[winterbolt]

[The Caracal rolls his eyes, scratching the side of his face.]

Man....thought I wouldn't have another dream like that in a long time. Heck, don't think I have since I was really little, that I can remember..

If you have, you've been quiet about them. I trained myself to wake up whenever you made that noise.

[winterbolt]

[...oh.]

A...ah. ...S'that true?

[ahowltolightthedark]

[Rongo nods with a gentle smile.]

When you two were small, anything that happened to you made me scared. You both seemed so fragile, I was worried that something terrible could happen the second I turned my back.

[winterbolt]

[Ata reached up to rub the back of his neck, frowning.]

R...right. I getcha. Sorry if we kept you worried, and all.

[ahowltolightthedark]

You shouldn't apologize. That was just part of the responsibility I accepted when I took you in.

[winterbolt]

[Atawhai shifted a bit with a sigh, looking up at Rongo.]

Yeah...guess you're right. ...I guess you don't really have nightmares that much, do you?

[Rongo sighs.]

I do, but I would never burden you with them.

[winterbolt]

[Ata nodded a little, fiddling with the edge of his blanket.]

I can't really remember what that dream I just had was about...but it must've freaked me out good.

When you were young, it was always a monster.

[winterbolt]

Eheh yeah....a monster living under the bed, or in the closet.

[ahowltolightthedark]

Or maybe tonight it was about the last time I beat you and Eta.

[Rongo flashes a grin.]

[winterbolt]

[The Caracal couldn't help but grin at that.]

Aw...it wasn't that bad, was it?

[ahowltolightthedark]

[The tiger chuckles.]

You must think of "bad" differently than I do.

We made it out in one piece, didn't we? I consider that a success as far as fighting you is concerned.

[More chuckling.]

Only because I'd never let anything hurt you two. Even if that means holding back as much as I do.
