How was she?

[Sherlock asks, dourly, less than a second before John comes through the door. 'Don't ask don't tell' fidelity standards don't really work on the great detective. He knows he has no real right to complain, but coming in with lipstick on your ear, John, really?]

[ As he steps in he stumbles a little bit. He hadn't been expecting such a direct question. Why he wasn't expecting it is a better question, he's been living with Sherlock long enough to know better. John pauses before he starts hanging up his coat and shrugs. ]

She was okay. We had a nice enough time, gave me a kiss goodnight... [ Again he shrugs. He doesn't realize there is lipstick on his ear. ]

Ah, I rather meant in the biblical sense.

Next time, do try to get your jumper back on the right way around. You aren't a complete moron.

The biblical sense? [ John raises an confused eyebrow as he starts into the kitchen to make himself a cuppa tea. ]

Well, thanks. Nicest thing you've said all week. [ He replies dryly. ] Do you want one? I mean, tea?

[Though he's face down now, buried in a cushion.]

[ John just ignores it and moves on. As he makes the two cups he reaches up to itch his ear, realizing then that he has lipstick on. Cursing lightly under his breathe he reaches out to get paper towels to clean it off. ]

Dull. I wish we could all be so easily entertained.

Couldn't have been that bad. No new built holes in the wall. [ He points out as he takes his seat on the couch, moving Sherlock's feet as he does so. ]

Mrs. Hudson would have been frazzled and said something when I came in. [ And the fact that John had removed all the bullets from his gun and stashed them elsewhere in the flat did help. ]

Reaffirmation? [ It's starting to become a little clearer now. John's not totally stupid or oblivious but it's still hard to pick up on the little things Sherlock does. He had agreed to a non-monogamous relationship with Sherlock because...he had wanted Sherlock and feared that was the only way to get him. So John went on a few dates every now and again because he thinks that's what Sherlock wants him to do. He doesn't want to crowd his flatmate and risk them loosing their relationship. ] You mean about... [ Waves a hand between them. ] ...us?

[Agreeing, feet settling into John's lap.]

[ John's hand comes to lightly rest on the back of his caff. ]

What d'you mean by that? [ His tea cup is put down in case some sort of bad new is to fallow. ]

I mean I feel sort of like it's pleading for compliments, to ask you whether I mean more than they do.

[ More surprising John. His face softens at the answer and he reaches out, running his fingers through the soft black locks. ]

Of course you do. It's why I always come home. [ It's true. Since entering the relationship with Sherlock he hasn't stayed at any of his dates. ]

[ He smiles back. ]

[He picks up his tea, and takes a sip, obviously much settled. Basking, in fact, with a smug little curl to his bottom lip.]

[ John just smiles, rolling his eyes at the smug look. He feels better. It's good.

Then Sherlock says that and John's heart speeds up and he has no idea what to say so he says the first thing that comes to mind. ] I don't think I'll be going on any dates for awhile.
